My Diary

STINGO!!! THAT'S AWESOME NEWS!!!

GREAT JOB AND CONGRATS, TOM!

I'll jump in my car (when it gets fixed) and I'll join ur party! :D

Sheri: Sure - bring out the DDR disc/pad, as I've never tried it before.

Here at our walmart they have a ddr mat that plugs into your t.v. and you buy the ddr disc. I guess there is a new disc that has more today's music than techno/japanese music. Greene wants to try that one.

WOOHOO!!! Party at Tom's!!! Tom, u're in charge of the beer (no big surprise lol), Sheri ur in charge of the ddr (whatever TF that is :D ) and I will be in charge of....something else. LOL

It's a video game where ya dance - the better ya dance, the higher your score (as far as I understand it). Dancing means putting your foot on the right place on the dance mat at the right time. Though I'm sure Sheri knows more about it than I.

Try to follow me on this. It's a game you play with your PS2 that has dance mats that are the controls. You put in a ddr disc that has music on it. You follow the arrows on the screen and step on the mat to the corresponding arrow. It's also good cardio/exercise because you are constantly moving around and the different settings means how fast the arrows come at you. Maybe this will help you.

You'll be in charge of the food. We'll sit around and have a cooking party and we'll show you how to cook. You can even try the energy bars/turkey chili we're raving about, but we'll throw some junk food in here and there.

I'm quite happy with the number on the scale today - so much so that I considered going out to celebrate... and then I thought... that's NOT what got me here. What got me where was ME - doing my own cooking and eating... so... I went to the store to get some supplies for some basics, and will consider trying some new recipes this weekend, and/or some old favorites.

I totally understand that. That's my first reaction too but I don't do it. I just wait for my cheat day..:D

WOW that mentality must've made you proud! Good job! I'm browsing your beloved "Zarr" tonight to find something fun for Sunday :p

If I was only that dedicated..... That's great news, Tom! We are all so very proud of you! You are such a role model for the rest of us!

Thanks everyone :)

I ended up making a new dish, and experimenting with 3 others.

Lentils and Rice - Although I followed the directions to the letter, I still came out with mushy rice. I'm not sure how to remedy the situation other than to cook the rice separately. The taste though was really good (but then again I like cumin). I'd've thought the cinnamon would've made more of a showing, but I suppose it made the taste fuller. In future I think I might cook the rice separately and add some diced tomatoes to the crockpot. But either way a satisfying and economical dish.

Soy Milk Smoothie was my after breakfast snack/treat. This time I used frozen strawberries which was delicious too (had tried raspberries the first few times I'd tried it). The consistency to my palate is like that of a shake, so this was a real treat indeed for me. (Just don't tell anyone it's healthy too :)). I prefer it tart so I don't add the sweetener and it tastes just fine to me.

Turkey chili - Not much to say here other than trying 1T of garam masala which seemed to totally overpower the 1T of chili powder already in the dish. It's good but still takes some getting used to having eaten all previous versions with just the chili powder.

Peanut Butter Granola Bars - I think I figured out the cause of the problem with the first batch (too crumbly). At 30 minutes I checked the top and (again) it felt soft, so I left it in for about 5 to 7 minutes more (til firm as the recipe indicates). The texture is hard/soft now - so that it CAN be cut into bars. I am thinking of adjusting the servings though to cut the number of servings in half as I think 16 makes the bars too thin.
