Motivational sayings and/or affirmations.

This is very motivational.

If you ever feel that you can't be bothered to exercise then read this article written by a young cancer patient.
eyckmans- I read this & it is truly inspirational. Thank you. I steer clear of exercise-specific motivational posts in the Cohen's sub-section of the forum as "excessive" exercise is not recommended while on the weight-loss part of the program, because of the fairly low intake of "killer-joules". I found too much exercise on the program had me ravenous. It certainly gives us "food for thought" for the future. The main thing that I take from it is Jenny's courage & determination to not let Cancer lose her sense of self, nor to stand in her way. Amazing! My sister, also Jenny, died of cancer, just a few years ago. To the end she fought & never, ever gave up. I will always have her for my inspiration & example as I face things into the future. :beating: She gave me her strength. Thanks again. We should always remember how lucky we all are.

I love this one. At my age I will never have a perfect body but I can have the best one possible. :)

That' something I struggle with. I so want the perfect body but nothing is perfect and as someone who started out at 385 pounds I don't know if it's possible to have anything resembling a beautiful body (in our current society's standards)...but here's hoping. lol

So sorry to hear about your sister Cate, that must have been very hard.:hug2:
I hadn't even noticed that this was in the Cohen part of the forum but Jenny is so insprirational that just thinking about what she did should make us realize that with a bit of effort we can achieve anything whether it is exercise, eating healthily or something else.

AWESOME! "Walk to the edge" I really like that part the most.

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down
But no, I'm not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose

Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb, yeah!

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb

~The Climb - Miley Cyrus

The Desiderata

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it's a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."

The Desiderata (Latin for Desired things) is a wonderful verse by Max Ehrmann (1872-1945) and considered by many to be the ideal philosophy of life.

Ehrmann studied law and received a degree in philosophy from Harvard after which he worked as a lawyer and then in his family's overalls manufacturing business. At the age of 41 he put it all aside and decided to be a writer. He wrote The Desiderata when he was 55 years of age.

I never heard of Max Ehrmann but from your post he sounds like a wise man. :) Great read! I especially like these two:

You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be.

Diet Facts

A diet is a weigh of life.

It's not the minutes spent at the table that put on weight, it's the seconds.

It's something most of us do religiously: We eat what we want and pray we don't gain weight.

Sweets are the destiny that shapes our ends.

Diets are for people who are thick and tired of it.

The toughest part of a diet isn't watching what you eat. It's watching what other people eat.

Diets are for women who not only kept their girlish figure but doubled it.

A diet is when you have to go to some length to change your width.

The best way to lose weight is by skipping ... snacks and dessert.

Most people gain weight by having intimate dinners for two...alone.

When I'm wanting to snack on junk food in the evening I think:

Even a little taste will go to the waist

"I keep trying to lose weight... but it keeps finding me!":D

come on missy, put down the forky"

Hope that brings a smile to anyone's face!!

My Comfort Zone - A Poem
(Author Unknown)

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

"You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realised how seldom they do."
— Eleanor Roosevelt

"Today is a new day."
Have you ever stopped to think about what that means to you? Each new day provides each of us with so many opportunities to live a fuller and healthier life. In what ways are you holding yourself back?

Defined by the Past

Do you ever feel like you are put in a box by the people who know you? They expect you to act, dress, and respond a certain way based on their past experience of you. Have you allowed yourself to become defined by your past & are afraid to venture out?

There is nothing wrong with being fairly predictable (reliable?), but if the expectations of others make you hesitant to experiment with yourself and your lifestyle, it can really hold you back. Have you ever seen an outfit that you just loved, but then held back from buying it or wearing it just because it wasn't your usual style? Did you fear judgement, ridicule, or questioning stares? Have you ever wanted to try a new activity or take up a hobby from your younger years, and then held back or put it off indefinitely? Did you wonder if you were too old? Would your friends laugh because you "definitely aren't the athletic type" or "the artistic type" or whatever?

I say embrace each new day as a gift and an opportunity to be whoever you want to be, even if it's just for one day. Take a risk. Wear a new style. Respond differently, unexpectedly and honestly. Be known for your fearlessness and confidence. Dare to be interesting. After the initial shock, people are more likely to admire you than ridicule you. In fact, you may be surprised how little others take notice at all, because people (other than your immediate family) really aren't all that interested in your doings. Most people are preoccupied with their own universe.

This really struck a chord with me. I've realized that I always do what people expect me to do instead of maybe what I'd rather do. I need to be a bit more assertive and I'm sure that others will find me a much more interesting person once they get used to it.
