Well done TM!

Do you feel that your general mood & attitude to life has improved a lot as well?

Thanks Cate.

Mate I’ve not had a depressed day (except the day my Father announced his diagnosis - WHICH HE IS RESPONDING EXTREMELY WELL TI TREATMENT FOR) in months. Not that I suffered any disorder or anything but work/life stresses absolutely got overwhelming from time to time. I am much more able to respond to pressures and organise myself. I’ve cleared all the clutter from my house and garage now that I’ve been meaning to do for years and I’m overall far more productive.

I simply cannot recommend regular exercise enough. Everyone who physically can should get out as much as possible. It’s turned my life around!

That's what I thought. Your attitude is so positive & is noticeably much more so than when you started your diary. You are a great example of what exercise can do for your mental health & wellbeing. Well done TM!

There are of course other factors at play here though. I have been working a different job (with the same old company) for 6 months or so that leaves me with a much more stable work/life balance, I’ve been slowly but surely getting rid of every trace of my ex wife from my life and I’ve been a lot smarter about where I ride; deliberately avoiding back streets so as to avoid inattentive drivers. This alone has really helped my stress levels.

BUT yes. Overall I can feel myself being much more positive about everything. I’ve always tried to see the positive side and I’m a firm believer in the “nobody died” principal and the circle of influence vs circle of control theories however far fewer negative things have been getting through my barriers lately; making it much easier to control what does plus of course the increase in endorphins and dopamine from all the exercise helps!

Oh, that sucks!

Yep. Felt it coming on Sunday night and then Monday afternoon it announced itself and hit me like a ton of bricks Monday night!

I’ve been in bed all day today. I’m only getting up because I have to drive to Marden. I’ve been offered a rear cycling computer at a bargain price that I can’t refuse.

Hey TM, thanks for the post on my dairy, I have a question.
I have a big bowl of porridge every morning which Is probably more calories than any other meal.
I had to look porridge up, I was mostly familiar with it from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. According to Wikipedia the oatmeal and grits I eat are types of porridge. It would take a whole lot of either to make a lot of calories The half cup (dry) of oatmeal I eat has 150 calories and a package of the instant grits I normally eat has 100, I usually eat 2. Is this the same thing you eat for breakfast?

Also, I am still thinking about your suggestion that I try to eat more calories in the am and less in the pm.

Honestly it’s not so much porridge as just oats. Every night I pour a cup or so of dry rolled oats into a bowl, cover it with either skim or soy milk and put it in the fridge. The next morning it’s ready to go. I used to get fancy and put seeds or berries in it then I got a little lazy and cut a banana into it in the morning. Now I’m very lazy and don’t put anything in it but usually follow it with a banana (or two).

True (disgusting) story about porridge ... my great grandfather used to make a big batch of porridge every week, let it cool on the stove then pour it into the top drawer of his bedside table where it would set. In the morning he’d cut a slab out and have it for breakfast.

Not the most hygienic breakfast ever but that was back before fridges and I imagine people’s immune systems were stronger anyway.

:rotflmao: That's amazing. He probably made it with just water though.

I assume it didn't kill your great great grandfather, so it could not have been too bad.

The man we bought our house from told us that in the 30s they used to kill a couple of hogs every fall and make sausage stuffing the family's old worn out socks, they hung the sausage outside of the girls bedroom window on the north side of the house and ate it all winter. My grand daughter uses that room when she visits and refused to believe the story. Then one day the older sister (in her mid 90s) came by to see what we had done to her childhood home, my grand daughter was there and heard the same story from her, and I think now she believes it.

Our modern practices of food storage and sanitation are mostly for the best, but not always as necessary as we think.

My skepticism about the sock-sausage story wouldn't be so much about the hygiene side of it as it would be about the practicality of putting ground-up meat into a worn-out (ie with holes in!) sock.

I suspect the holes would have been sewn up to at least some degree ‍♂️

Well I still feel sick with this cold. I’ve been chomping at the bit for a ride with my nice new shoes and Garmin cycling computer.

Still under the weather I didn’t want to push it and go climb a hill so I took in a 20km flat loop. Initially I intended to just take it easy and spin the legs but as usual the competitor in me took over. Not sure who/what I was competing against but it pushed me to not sprint but keep a nice steady pace the whole route.

My new shoes feel great. A much better fit so I’m able to get the power down more easily and I’m not losing anywhere near as much with sole flex etc. the computer really helped me stay on track too. I sometimes find myself getting lazy and letting my cadence drop but with the sensors I can keep an eye on it.

Hmmm never heard of Fritos before but then I don’t really like corn chips. I’m a sucker for smiths cheese and onion crinkle cut though!
Had to look the Smiths things up, never heard of them. It seems we share less culture with Australia than I thought, different junk food labels. I think the content though is very similar.

Smiths=Lays, isn't it?

You could be right but I don’t really know
