Hey TM, thanks for visiting my diary, and the picture of your dog. Now you get to see mine.

Another good ride tonight. Up the hill and through the rolling hills to Gawler, back down the bikeway home. Made it all that way (40km without getting a single red light or having to stop at any roundabout or cross road!

And NO close calls with any cars tonight! The world must be building up to something big!

On another note cycling is cruel; in particular cycling up hills is cruel. Tonight I felt much much faster than Tuesday night (no wind tonight vs strong head wind Tuesday) but at the top of the hill the I still couldn’t crack 20km/average!8307553A-9D07-4A14-96A9-EFBAC8DD2F98.png59CECC5B-D20E-4F42-A5F6-EDE8E00E3E00.png

A bit of an early ride for me. Usually I’m just setting off about now but I’m back. I’m heading out to see my partner tonight who’s finally over her cold so thought I’d get the ride out of the way early.

Pretty uneventful ride. No climb tonight but I left it in the big chain ring and really pushed it to simulate the force. Put some pretty decent power through the pedals too I think. 4D2AC4C0-CAEC-4FC7-B043-12EA2C298E40.png

Well then, I just bought a new blazer. Got an amazing deal in an outlet store. $399 blazer for $20!

The strange thing is the size. I must have dropped a bit because I just bought the smallest blazer I’ve owned since high school. 38 SLIM FIT!575B6F1D-A4A6-4D7A-ADD6-27EA70AA30B0.jpeg9626180F-1429-45DC-98CE-B2769D1DB1B8.jpeg

I’m back. I’ve had a couple of days off from this forum and from cycling; I just didn’t feel like it but I’m back now. Went for a ride tonight. Took a lot of persuading to get me out the door. It’s FREEZING here.

Anyway up the hill I went to Gawler and back down the bike way. This is quickly becoming my regular ride. I still hate hills but they’re getting easier.

It's good to acknowledge when you need a break. It's cold here too :(
Certainly is. I don’t know why but I just didn’t feel like riding. I’m back now though. Just had a good ride up the hill. Still can’t break the 20km/h average up the hill BUT I did clock my highest speed on the decent tonight. 64km.

I’m thinking I might aim for a triathlon in 12 months time or so ... just for something new. Not a serious competition but just a beginners comp and really just aim to finish. Shouldn’t be TOO hard. If Tony Abbott can do it I’m sure I can!440AD8F5-E0FD-4506-AD06-C5EFD5A08C72.png8B7D9238-ED05-4204-90B8-7971A95815AC.png

Well I gave in. I downloaded the Strava app. Turns out I’m actually not that slow AND my hill is much steeper than I thought. My time tonight (into a slight headwind) was the 206th fastest time ever clocked up that hill out of 372 times soooo while I’m not going to make the pro peloton any time soon I’m a lot faster than I thought.

I’ve now got a real time gradient measure of the hill. It tops out at 10.3%294FD210-5BDA-4E58-8EF7-6458C9853928.pngA2786572-5EBD-4397-9B0A-7EC011428BA4.png7A101880-C156-4B78-99BC-055582C3D63E.png

Not sure if the sizes are the same but here a 38 is 38 inch chest circumference.

Same here, which makes your 38 even more impressive. Last time I wore a 38 was over 50 years ago, my current suit is a 60, but it is beginning to get a little loose.

I looked your dog up on youtube, great video!

I am impressed by your dedication to cycling and exercise, I am struggling to figure out what exercise I can do.

Thanks. I’ve got a few more videos to put up but I just don’t have the time.

I used to be into all sorts of sports but this time around just started walking and built up to other exercise accidentally from there.

Well work is done for the day. Rode in nice and easy. Rode home a little faster.

It’s the false flats that kill me now. Prolonged false flats. Not climbs and not flats. 1-2% gradients that you don’t see when you walk or drive; only when cycling. They suck because you wear out your legs but you can’t really tell why! I have about 10km of false flats on the way home from Gawler. 7E7DCEA1-A4CB-4706-ADA2-2A07BEB4C702.png8CC322CF-7992-4E46-997C-B3ED06B93B0F.png

I noticed something yesterday on my way home from work. I tried one foot peddling to test my efficiency and although the motion was good there was a LOT of flex in my shoe (bought online; very hard to get sizing right) because I was essentially pulling up on the upper shoe and there was lag in the bottom sooooo off I went to 99 bikes and bought a good pair of shoes. I’m very happy with the fit. Nice and snug but not too tight.

The problem I have now is I’ve remembered what a headache (and knee ache) it is to get the cleats positioned correctly. I fitted them last night in an approximate spot and headed to the shops this morning. Beautiful I thought ... until I hit the uphill section and nope, no good at all so off home I went and I think I have them right now but geeze my right knee hurts! It’s amazing the extra strain in your knee from a few mm of incorrect clear adjustment!

Oh and 84.3kg this morning.
