Marsia's Diary

My nephew lives in Davis :) It really does sound lovely where you are.
Thanks! I used to live in Davis a long time ago - it was a nice community, but 110 degrees F (43.3 C) in the summer sometimes. Vegetables grew huge and the garden looked like a tropical jungle you had to beat back to find the garden paths, but you had to run from tree to tree for shade in the hottest days of the summer or it felt like an egg frying on top of your head!

I love reading about where you live it always sounds so idyllic. My friend lives in Washington state and he is always sending me pictures and it looks fab too . They have been severely affected by fires recently and their air became extremely bad .

Good job on the exercise .

Cate I want September to be an active month too .

Petal, great to hear from you. I was just going to write to see how you were doing! I loved Washington state so much, and where we live is wonderful, too. I want to explore the wild Oregon coast next which has beautiful windswept beaches and charming coves and harbors where there are cute little villages. Sad about all the wild fires, but with the climate change, there seem to be more of them lately, and bigger than usual.

Here's to getting into healthy routines this September!

Ah thanks for thinking of me my friend . I'm back now !
Had a nice morn thus far , ate a good breakfast and sat and watched a US SITCOM FOR 20 minutes. Have to admit it made me laugh . The main lead was worried she was going to be the second fattest mom on the street lol .

I'm taking a day away from house clearing and going shopping with my daughter . I have some savings which I took out on Friday from an extra little account I save in occasionally so going to treat us both to something new . I desperately need new trainers but find it hard to find comfy ones .

No matter how thin we all get, someone´s going to be the fattest and they will (be made to) feel bad about it. Our primary school class had two "fat kids". I thought they were smelly, slow, dumb, and boring (I was a pretty crappy kid sometimes; for what it´s worth I tried my best not to let anyone know what I thought about them). Looking back on school pictures they were thinner than most non-fat kids these days. The rest of us were just rakes.
End of rant. Which I´m only going to post to remind us all that fat/thin are comparative, not absolute.

Glad you're back!! I hate shoe shopping. I have narrow heals and have to buy European shoes, which cost more here. I'm glad you have your daughter to keep you company and hope you found something ultra comfy!

I don't know who is fattest on my block, but I love how I will see an out of shape jogger huffing down our road and in a few more months, a much skinnier version of the same woman, and then a year later someone who looks like they have run all their lives. That is going to be us in a year!!!

I was in the warehouse grocery store today in the book section, and someone was talking about the book Grit, about taking the 10 year view of goal setting where you stick to something until you reach mastery, and pursuing your goals with passion and perseverance - this is a Ted Talk by the author the woman talking about the book in the store recommended
. Basically if you are persistent and keep to your goal at all costs you succeed more than people with greater intelligence (as measured by IQ and achievement scores.) I thought I would post about it here as we are all in the same boat as far as needing to persevere and find what works for each of us instead of getting discouraged!

That’s right and we are keeping up with our perservance . Even though we have our bad days and weeks we do have an end goal . And I have always said to myself if it takes me a year or 2 it will happen . I’m making so many good changes that do for sure outweigh those dark days .

No I didn’t get my trainers but will keep looking . Tbh I get overwhelmed in the bigger store. I think I might just go to a small local store this week and get the similar ones I currently wear as they are comfy on my big wife foot . My daughter got a lovely backpack and some socks and we had a low cal coffee . Nice day

I have so much trouble finding shoes to fit me too, Petal. I have size 11 feet & they are wide! I usually end up with men's runners.

I know what you mean about the bigger stores for shoes. I go to one with a nice little selection of European shoes, and usually find something, as well. Glad you had a good day out!

Wow glad to hear I miss not the only one with shoe problems . High heels are my idea of living hell . I like my feet to be comfy at all times but don't we all .
Cate I did a conversion and you are coming up as uk 10 but I'm not sure if that is correct. I am a uk 7 . I have not had time to look yet for trainers .

I need an EU size 42 in sneakers (UK 9.5?), 39-40 (7?) in most normal shoes and 38 (5?) if I find a men´s shoe I like. But mostly men´s shoes don´t come that small and boys´ and ladies´ shoes are too narrow. Isn´t shoe shopping fun?

I think AN EU is an8 LaMa .
I’m a size 7 uk or a 40/41 eu depending on the style . Funny the lady in the sports shop suggested a mans trainer to me but she wasn’t really helpful in showing me stuff to try on . I get disillusioned quickly so left .

I am wearing wedges today and would love to be in my comfy sketchers .

I compared three size tables and used rounded averages. Men´s running shoes aren´t a great solution for me because they have much stiffer soles. I like the cushioning and so do my knees.

Good morning, Marsia (it's just before 9 am here). How are you today? (I thought I would get away from shoes as I lose track of whose diary it is & have to look up at the URL :blush5: ) It's raining today in Tasmania & I have a day at home. What are you up to? xoxo

Hi Cate! I just got back from the gym and cafe. Did 26 minutes running on an easy setting on the treadmill and cool down for the rest and resistance circuit. I'm happy I can run a pretty good amount of time now! We got matcha tea afterwards (mine was unsweetened and was delicious.) My mom swam and felt really good from it, and will try a swimming class for people with joint replacements tomorrow, so I am really happy. The gym is really working out! I've been getting up before everyone else an meditating, and really like that, so may make it a habit. Just got work for our business done otherwise today, but was quite productive and the sun came out and it was lovely. The air is changing to feel a little like fall now.

Lately I have noticed that I am becoming disciplined. It's shocking!!!

Hope you are having a lovely rainy day and taking it easy with your back! I sometimes practice what I am going to say before I make a phone call that I am not looking forward to making. I will be with you in spirit when you call!!!
