Lift, Train, Fitness

not much happening this weekend, just waiting for my chilli to finish simmering to thicken a little, all the veg is either from my garden or from local farms, meat is from local butcher and sourced from local farmers.

My tomato plants are starting to look a bit worse for wear as the end of summer approaches.

I think the wicking bed made all the difference this year with the tomatoes normally I would loose the whole crop to blossom end rot due to not being able to keep enough water up to the plants and the gums drawing all the calcium out of the soil. With the wicking bed I only needed to top up the water reservoir once all summer, and the watering from below meant that I had far less diseases affecting the leaves etc. My silverbeet on the other hand was consumed by insects and a complete failure, I should have put a cover over the frame I built for the purpose of both holding netting and being something solid to tie the tomatoes to.

My pidgeon peas are finally what I would describe as small trees and my wormwood is finally looking healthy after recent rain soaking into the swale beds. Next to be planted is sweet potato as a groundcover on the swale bed now it will have a little shade protection from the pidgeon peas. Getting a permaculture style garden to work is a lot harder than the videos make it look, supposedly hardy plants that will "grow anywhere" don't. With persistence I will achieve building a food forest to be more self sufficient.

I think I have created a monster lol, I allowed little miss to watch some baking shows on TV. she was already big into imaginary cooking but I have been eating nothing but imaginary cakes all afternoon except for a short break when little miss helped to prepare a chook for the oven. I cook because I need to but little miss becomes soooooo excited when it comes to cooking. It is almost like she needs a substitute grandma to cook with as we have no close family nearby and my allergy situation means It is just not wise to have contact with the ingredients used in a lot of baking.

Son 2 does all of the cooking for himself and his older brother now after spending a lot of time in mums kitchen near the end before she died learning how to cook. Something I never done with mum which is not unusual for gen X kids who looked after themselves. As a young teen I was expected to have a family meal cooked for when my parents came home after dark.

It's great that at least half your kids seem to really enjoy spending time in the kitchen. Such a shame you can't do any baking with little Miss though! Allergies do SUCK :flame:

it has been fucking hot again today, currently 38 C and 40% humidity in the shade and temp has not peaked. No lifting and no outdoor exercise, it is simply too hot.
200 push-ups in the aircon and some toddler weight squats.

It is after 5pm here and the temp is still over 30 with rising humidity, a storm would be nice.

Potted plants last about as long as cut flowers in my house :) Ohh well!

Awww its really good little miss has a passion, maybe her bros can teach her

Last nights predictor failing to get into the chook box she is sitting on. This is the mumma snake that lives in our roof, not the little one.

yes, carpet python, D could not help himself and spent a bit of time petting it, harmless to people, deadly to chooks and peafowl. They keep other snakes away.

Snake is back camped out next to the chicks again tonight, If she is there each night on Monday I will photograph her scales again because the 2 photographs I need to submit for uni next week are a self portrait and a study of texture and I think the scales are a great look at texture. Photo have to be taken the week they need to be submitted for weekly tasks and during the semester for assignments, the semester does not officially start till Monday.

Cooking up a big pot of chilli beef, when it is cooked and cooled I will be putting it in containers to freeze for quick meals.

Those snake scales would be perfect for a study of texture. The poor chickens must feel nervous.
We're having the right weather for that chilli today. Brrr. We are also having some much-needed rain.
