Lift, Train, Fitness

This Video is not bad when looking at the debate between full and partial range of motion, I fall into the science/full range of motion camp but recognise that partials have a place for specific outcomes, for example partial squats can be used specifically to target vertical leap height and power for sprinters, for almost everybody else full range of motion within your mobility limit. Another example is modified lying triceps extensions using a very specific range of motion to target the medial head and take the long head mostly out of the equation to improve lockout on Bench press.

Spent this arvo outside constructing a gate while D built a small chicken yard for the silkies. I have wire puncture wounds on one hand and up one arm lol, I probably should have worn gloves.

I have a GP appointment to follow up on my knee tomorrow.

Next Monday I get to scramble for my preferred lab times for Uni.

It is aching now, but I was able to sit down while doing some of the work. I think a bit of an ache tells me I exercised the knee without over doing it as I do not need pain relief but I will see tomorrow if my Doc agrees with my current activity level.

I wear gloves when I do anything as I get cut to pieces easily. Glad your knee is getting stronger, Tru.

Doc was happy with progress but still very concerned that the instability will cause another tear, I need to swap to a soft knee brace to be worn all the time :( but I have the go ahead to continue exercising and rebuilding the knee. If I am up early enough in the morning I will strap it and tackle the shortest hiking loop at the Victory Heights trail, D will come with me so that little miss can also do the hike. I will use Hiking poles to take some of the strain.

I need to put some serious effort to be back in shape for the start of Uni, but looking forward to learning how to coach the strongman events.

hiked almost 4k this morning with D and little miss, there was a couple of spot where I definitely needed the hiking poles to get down short but very steep slopes with loose gravel, rocks and tree roots. Knee is ok, a bit achy but no pain, without the poles and strapping it would not have been possible to complete.

Little miss only needed to be carried up the last hill and we only needed to dodge 2 groups of mountain bikers.

I need to make a habit of hiking this short loop while rebuilding my strength,

I'm not the most surefooted and walking down slopes with loose gravel is my personal hell. Can't imagine doing it with a bad knee! Coaching strongman athletes sounds really cool.

So far today

Lazy Morning then
Sharpen my favourite kitchen knife
Gym Session (Bench, landmine press, tricep extension, Lat pulldowns, reverse flies)
Cook a rolled pork roast and put in fridge for slicing as cold sandwich meat for the family, I just cut and eat, no bread for me lol
time now to go pick little miss up from childcare

Hubby is back at work next week so his holidays are almost over.

hit the Victory heights trail again at 7 am this morning after chasing and catching 3 escaped chickens (I don't know how the gate was opened) , no little miss (hubby wanted to sleep in) completed it much quicker, 1000 calories.

eating has been very good but it is 38 C outside on our shaded verandah, so no more outside activity until it cools down tonight.

4 litres of water so far today.

I am seriously suffering in the heat this arvo, it is 40 outside, the AC is struggling while I watch a thunderstorm forming down south in Brisbane at the cricket wishing it was here to cool things off while I am dripping in sweat. Humidity is measuring 55% inside despite the AC being set to dry.

I have no appetite when it gets this hot.

Was it easier on your leg without little Miss as well or did that not make a difference?
No surprise you don't feel like eating in that kind of heat. We've reached the part of winter where I have to eat hot meals if I sit still a lot just to stay warm!

With little miss there was a lot of stopping for things like interesting sticks and stopping at the way markers so we could teach her to understand and point out which way to go, knee was about the same today and the only stopping was when I needed to move off the trail to let the group of 30 mountain bikers go past.

Any later than a 7 am start would have made it to hot to hike anywhere.

40? Move to Tassie, Tru!

If it wasn't for Ds work, Tassie would be a serious consideration, my great grandfather was born in Recherche Bay, he also struggled with the heat and despite living in NSW after the war he would spend summer every year in Tassie due to the heat, I can only imagine how bad it was serving in Palestine and Egypt during WWI for him.

it is slightly cooler today but very humid, I am about to take the camera and do some practice down the back paddock where hubby has been clearing lantana this holidays and tells me there are some native ducks making their home on the spring fed dams down there so I will see what I find lol. It will be challenging for my knee because while the lantana has been cut it has not been cleared into piles yet for burning when summer is over.

posted the pics in the what I saw on my walk today thread, all except the swan were taken here at home on my property.

Knee was ok but I was sweating buckets when I returned to the house.
