Lift, Train, Fitness

Your Christmas day sounds lovely, Tru. Little Miss would have been a joy. I bet she slept well!

Happy new year from QLD, now to get some sleep lol

My knee is feeling a lot better than it was, but instability is still an issue the small tears are healing well based on pain levels (no more pain relief needed), tomorrow I will see what I can safely do with the knee brace on, at the bare minimum I should be able to do a modified upper body session (No leg drive during Bench Press) and some single leg work, plus some rehab exercises before I can progress to building more muscle to protect the knee. I see somebody proposed a squat challenge, while under normal circumstances it would not be a challenge, I may consider doing it in the form of single leg squats.

Today we added 3 new silkies to our chicken flock, mainly so they can become peafowl foster mums when they get older. Good news on the peafowl front, after loosing a batch of eggs from my white pair (Goanna broke into the enclosure) I thought the breeding season was over especially because pretty boy is dropping his train, however, hubby saw them in the act and I have 2 eggs so far, On Thursday I will put the eggs plus any more our hen lays, into the incubator on Thursday. It would be better if I had a broody chook to put them under but no such luck.

Glad to hear things are looking better with your knee. I do all manner of squat variations to keep the challenge interesting and am always happy to see new ones!

I'm glad you got some peafowl eggs, Tru. Also glad that your knee is healing. The physio I saw said to steer clear of squats for a while, which I'm happy to do as I had tried them one day & they hurt. I'm looking forward to being able to do more & to build some strength, but walking will have to do for me for now.

With my main problem being instability, If I can keep the knee stable and tracking correctly during squat I will be ok, there is enough movement in the brace that I can squat using bodyweight with the brace on as it is only set to stop the knee moving out of alignment. later on after I am no longer using the brace, I have my PL knee wraps which hold the knee very securely when lifting but cannot be used as an all day piece of equipment.

did not make it down to the gym but I was able to move around more outside today, including cleaning out a small chicken coop, getting a mid sized coop finished with hubby and move Silkies into said coop. I think hubby managed to pick out 2 roosters and one hen when he went on his own to collect, not a big problem but would have preferred more hens. The excess rooster can be moved to the big chook yard when he get older. Next step is to lay some turf and install a low fence to create a larger chicken run for the little fluffballs which will also be a safe area for little miss to play. Silkies cannot fly, and can jump a little, they make great foster mums because they go broody very easy and won't take a piece out of your hand when you put the foster eggs under them, they tolerate heat well but are not waterproof and suffer in the cold making them a bit different from our other chooks.

The new coop has extra screws and very secure latches on top of a wired base, so it is snake and goanna proof when they are locked in for the night.

Collected another pea egg today, so that is 3 for the incubator on Thursday so far, tomorrows job is thoroughly disinfect the incubator and turn it on to check it is functioning correctly.

Little misses fish tank is going great, about a week ago we added some glass catfish (you can see through them) which freaked son 3 out a little bit watching skeletons with organs swimming around the tank.

They are very cute fish! You sound so well organised with your chickens & peafowl etc. I wish our dog yard was snake proof!

we still need to fully goanna proof the peafowl enclosure, The metal reo mesh on the roof is not small enough and the goanna can climb in, however the roof of the enclosure is almost 5 meters high and will need me to be back stable on my knee before it is done and it is more than a 1 person job so hubby cannot fix it on his own. When not free ranging the birds need a tall enclosure with high perches but they nest on the ground.

it has mostly been a nothing day today, however son 3 passed his hazard recognition test to go from red "P"s to green "P"s and in another 24 months driving will have his full drivers licence without having provisional plates on his car.

after watching him do the test online, I don't think it would hurt some older drivers to do the test. It was a series of real time videos taken from the drivers perspective in common hazard situations and he had to identify and click on the hazard within the time limit for each situation. mostly spotting hazards before they actually happen like cars pulling out of driveways, road works, bikes etc. within enough time to avoid the hazard. his average time was under 5 seconds, the test allowed for 7 seconds max to id and react to the hazard.

lots of juggling around to get the humidity right in the incubator after fully sterilizing it. Day time humidity is higher in our lounge room than what I need in the incubator during the day, so I cannot ad water to the reservoir however at night the environmental humidity drops and the incubator needs water added. The reservoir is easy to fill but not to empty, currently experimenting with an ice cube tray, working out how many cubes of water I need at night to keep humidity stable and be easier to empty when humidity gets too high during the day. I will also set the AC to dry rather than cool tomorrow to see what difference it makes before putting the eggs in.

If it was just chook eggs I could just set and go. I also have 3 thermometer and 2 humidity monitors in the damn machine at the moment, every singe one reads something different :(

I would love one of the big chest type incubators with automatic humidity control.

Exercise wise, I have been on my feet a little to much today and my knee is aching, food wise, have not eaten much, but have a big stew in the crock pot, choc full of fresh veg, beef, and I finally found a stock without wheat in it to add extra flavour. The stock is a little expensive but I am too lazy to make my own from scratch lol.

I remember being fascinated by the incubator in my grandparents´ kitchen. Never thought about it being more than a heat lamp in an enclosed space though! Makes sense that humidity should be important as well. Of course in a colder climate the humidity being too high in a heated space usually isn´t the problem...
I´m glad I´m not the only one who´s too lazy to make their own stock :p

Finally got it stable at 60% humidity and 37.5 degree !!! and int is now 11:50 so time for bed

if I can keep it stable in the heat tomorrow then the eggs go in tomorrow arvo

It has been raining all day.

Finally got the cable system set up in the gym, the first pulley arrangement did not work, had to move the rack and rig it up slightly differently but I now have a high and low cable system adding more exercise options.

Completed a few sets of standing tricep extensions with the bar son 3 gave me for Xmas, I was very happy with my shoulder mobility in both shoulders, it has bee a long time since I have been able to put both arms completely vertical without pain.

Managed a semi solid training session this arvo.

1 set of ATG squat, Bar only, knee was ok, slight ache in MCL but have to start rebuilding
Light Bench, standing tricep extensions, skipping (Little miss insisted) absorbed impact through ankles. Lat pulldowns weight was little miss sitting on the weight stack to go up and down.

every exercise also had to be done by little miss followed by her teddy bear.
