Lei's Big Huge Log

Lei, I haven't forgotten about you. My advice on military-join the Air Force. Get your BA first and enlist as an officer.

I was going Navy at one time for underwater search and rescue. But that's another story.

I always felt that, although probably the most intellectually-frequent division of the military, the air force was kind of a cop out when it came to physical stuff.

I'd like to hear that story, evo, I'll even let you post it in my log, howz dat?

lol

Do they not have the widest standards for physical performance? They also don't have the image and glory that the Navy or Army possess. But I'm not doing it all for image, if so, I'd be all gung ho about joining The Marines or something, lol. I could be dead wrong, so please correct me if so.

More on the Military later, thanks for the input guys, I gotta go to Granny's house.

Hope granny's house was fun. :)

You're definitley right. Marines>Army>Navy>Air Force. Sure they are not "terrible" when it comes to fitness, but it is MUCH less intense than the other branches. I'm not too sure about the Navy, but the Army and Marines require you to pass a time limit for running. In the Air Force, they have you bike a certain time. I think biking is much easier :p

Good options. I've been contemplating Marines/Army for several years now. If you want to go for "manly glory" than go for Marines or the Army. If you're looking for lighter things physically then go for the Air Force of the Navy. All 4 have their glory and honor, and of course respect from everyone. If you want to be with the rough manly men, then go with the Army/Marines. You would have it easier being in the Air Force or Navy, especially being an officer.

I'm thinking about maybe signing up for 2-5 years. Get that time done with and you've acomplished a great deal that 99% of Americans don't. You can always back yourself up with the training you learn and, of course, can always say that you fought for freedom in a time when most Americans are too afraid to. Good luck with your decisions, Lei. I know you'll make the right ones :)

Thanks guys, you're teh ownz

Merc, I might end up doing this thing for a career. There isn't much space to move up in The Marines. And men who are sent exclusively to the front line of combat (enlisted guys) are usually those who end up with little future in the armed forces. I'm fairly certain I can score high enough in the placement tests to open up most feilds to me, and as an officer, I'll be able to work and progress in these feilds of interest. I don't know for sure though, I haven't talked to a recruiter yet.

Lei, if you want a career from the military, go with the Air Force. There is the most room for advancement, there is a lot more respect, and the pay is better.

Oh, there's not a lot to my story. I wanted to go in as underwater search and rescue (not Diver) and went and took the ASVAB and set a date and everything for when I finished my degree (I've changed degrees since then). But because of hte huge lapse in time between getting shipped off and would have finished school, I changed my mind. Two years is a long time to give someone to ponder on things...they only have so many openings in the area of underwater search and rescue and so part of that was waiting for the 1.5 year opening for the schooling and position. I still to this day don't know if I regret not going or not.

Thanks Evo, I'll also talk to the recruiters and see what the different departments can offer me.

And you can always live your rescuer dreams through your son :)

W00t, anticipation...

AM workout-

Power cleans-
5x1 @ 115 warm up
3x3 or 4 @ 145

Chins-
8x3 @ BW

Clean High Pulls-
5x3 @ 115

All exercises were performed with little or no rest in between

PM workout-

Push Press-
5x1 @ 95 warm up
3x3 @ 110

Single arm DB snatch-
5x3 @ 60 lbs/hand

Bench press-
5x3 @ 135 explosive

BB curls and skullcrushers-
6x2 @ 70

The AM/PM thing wasn't planned that way. I woke up late and the AM workout was me rushing because I had a class.

I feel like I've been lacking focus and drive lately...

Back Squats-

5x2 @ 135 warm up
1x2 @ 185
1x1 @ 205
1x0 Failed attempt at 225. So lame.

Front squats-
3x3 @ 135

To preserve some pride, all lifts were performed ass to freshly cut, really short grass.

Hey, Lei...check out this setup.

and you could run it concurrently with this program (use the cosmetic "day of week to begin" option to notice how they put it together and when it says bench training)...you could run it with this program-

What would be fun is using the close grip bench as your regular bench max and the max bench as your push press max

I was thinking over your structure...let me know if you like the above.

I think it's a good set-up, I like the upper part more, because the numbers I'll be working with at the squat make me completely sad. I'm going to give both of them a go, but I wanna lift as heavy as possible while completing the reps outlined, would that compromise my results? I might have put the input numbers in wrong, but the output ones look like they wouldn't challenge me at all.

Try putting in your squat max for both teh TFmax and CFmax. Then replug in your number on the TFmax at 10% off the CFmax and use those numbers for the front squats.

Awesome, I'll be starting the upper tomorrow. I'll have to take this benching thing carefully, I've got some tendon damage I don't want to mess with.

Thanks a lot, Evo

OH press-
5x1 @ 95 warm up
5x1 @ 115
3x1 @ 145
5x1 @ 115

BO rows-
5x5 @ 145

Palms in chins-
5x2 @ bw (supersetted with the BO rows, I couldn't squeeze that many out)

Cable Neck Pulls-
8x3 @ 130

Chest supported rear delt flies-
8x1 @ 15/hand

JM press-
6x2 @ 60 (Left Tri was acting up, it's been strained before and it was a little sore from Mon)

Hammer curls-
10x2 @ 30/hand

I tried the method of "lifting heavy while being able to do the reps", but I guess I'll have to really conform to the new workout plan...percentages and everything.

I feel like I haven't had a good cardio workout in a long, long time. I barely even sweat when I lift anymore.

-edit-
Thus, I did some bag work. God DAMN I am rusty as hell. I wish I had a real training partner or a school :(
