Kristi's journey to a healthy lifestyle

I just HAVE to try that Laughing Cow cheese. I saw a commercial the other day for it, and thought of you. I love cheese just as much as you do, and that sounds perfect to have with some whole wheat type of cracker for a snack. YUM!

Oh, and by the way, the Kashi granola bars that I got at Costco are DELISH! There are 3 different kinds of chewy bars... Peanut Butter, Trail Mix & Almond w/flax.

Seems like there are a lot of us trying to get our closets organized. That is what I did yesterday.

Well, have a good night. I'm sure you'll wake up feeling rested & anxious to continue your exciting healthy journey!

:dupe: Disclaimer: Brain dump :dupe: Ramble alert....

I have a love-hate relationship with change. I need it so that I don't get bored with life, but at the same time I'm not too great with it in the beginning. It takes me some time to warm up to it. My husband's schedule is about to go hay-wire. It actually started tonight and I'm not taking it too well. He doesn't know. I need to be supportive of him b/c he already has too much on his plate to begin with. Me whining about not getting to see him isn't going to change anything. He is going to be going to school full time with 18 hours(not including studying,papers,projects...) and then on top of that work a 40-50 hour work week. He will have maybe 4 hours of sleep each night. I'm stressing and it's not even me!!! The saddest part about this is that our one yro son isn't going to know where Daddy is. Their special time is "nigh-night-time" and he gives our son a bath and puts him to sleep. Chris has been doing this for about a year now. It gives me a break since I've been with Erik all day and it gives them some bonding time. Erik is going to miss that and I know I will too. I'm trying not to be selfish but I'm really upset and I know better than to unload my feelings on Chris. I really thought that I had prepared myself enough, but it just snuck up on me when Chris went to bed at 8 tonight. (Starting Monday, he'll be going to bed between 3 and 5 in the afternoon.) After I put Erik to bed, I just sat in the living room and cried. It's so quiet and lonely
: ( I know that this is not the worst of down times and it's certainly not the loneliest, but I just can't shake it. I know it will be fine once I get into the swing of things and once I start doing more outside of the house. This summer I've been a home-body since Chris has been home and I knew what was to come(and we only had one car for awhile b/f he got his motorcycle.) I'm going to have to line up play-dates like crazy and get some hobbies going. I just hope I don't have a melt-down and go nut-so on Chris. He def. doesn't need that. Well, it felt good to get all that off of my chest. It feels much better to do that, than to go stuff my face in the fridge.

Yumm. I'm so glad that someone told me about it. I think it was Buckeye and Ambalove that told me about it. I thought that Win-Dixie didn't carry it, because it wasn't with the other cheese. I was in the Deli and saw it with the hummus and almost fell over! I love that it's individually wrapped b/c it helps to not go overboard. The chewy bars sound really good. I'm going to pick some up next time.

About the closet....Chris made me do it! haha! He is actually going to SLEEP in there starting tomorrow! He needed space, so I went in there and gathered up clothes that I've never worn and would never wear and bagged them up for goodwill. I threw a bunch of old stuff away that I didn't need and put a bunch of stuff aside to put in the attic. It looks really good. I can't believe it took me this long to do it! We've lived here for almost 3 years!

I think tomorrow I will feel better than today and will hopefully burn some stress off in my workout!

Hey,
Well, believe me, I know what it is like to miss your husband. But you do have to stay strong for him and remember that he is doing this to better your lives. But, you may want to talk to him just to let him know that even though you are going to be tough, it will be hard for you. If you hold it all in, you might just find yourself blowing up at him, which you said is the last thing you want to do.

I know that's not a lot of help, but I know you can stay strong. I think it is a good idea if you plan some play dates. Plus, taking your little one to the park, for long walks, bike rides, etc. will help you both feel better.

Why is he going to be sleeping in the closet??? I had to reread that... lol. Also, what is Chris going to school for?

Good luck! And remember that we are here for you, too. :)

Thank you so much, Stacy. I really needed to hear all of that. I think I will let him know but not in a whiny way. I would hate for it to all blow up one day. I told him today how proud I am of him for working this hard. I know he's doing it for all of us and it's not like he WANTS to be away, it's just during this time he has to. He wants me to stay home with Erik and raise him and so do I, and for that to happen there has to be sacrifice somewhere in the mix. It won't be like this forever. He actually graduates in May. He's going to be getting his bachelor's in Broadcasting and minoring in English. He's almost finished! woohoo! About the closet! hahaha! I guess I should have explained that!!!!! Since he has to go to bed in the afternoon to be up at midnight for work, he wants to sleep in the darkest and most quiet spot possible----our master closet! He's going to put a fan in there and close the door and snooze away. I personally cannot sleep well on the floor, but he doesn't mind!! He's just going to try it out for the first couple of nights and see how it goes. If he can't sleep then I guess we'll just get darker curtains and me and Erik will try to be quiet. What a silly guy :D I guess it makes sense though, who knows?!

Well, thank you for the pep talk and for being here for me! I really really really appreciate it!

Today was BUSY!! My dad called this morning and asked me to pick up my sisters from highschool and take them to four different stores for different things that they needed. One of my other sisters (I have four btw!) watched Erik while we went and had some girly time. I took them to run some errands which turned into a shop-till-we-drop thing. (My dad's treat!!!) I had such a good time! We went to a really nice salon and I got a cute cut with some high-lights and layers and it looks hot-- if I may say so myself. ;) Mine took over 3 hours and it was so relaxing. :) My dad and step-mom were home when we got back and they were having a ball with Erik. When there's no drama, family can be the best thing in the world!! Me and Erik are spending the night tonight over here at my dad's and tomorrow I'm going swimming! woohoo!

Oh! And both my step-mom and my dad seperately told me I looked really good! My dad hadn't seen me since vacation (about a month ago) and he said that he could def. tell that I've toned up and lost weight since then. My step-mom was talking to me and she stopped and said that my face looked so much thinner and that it is definately noticable! eeeeeee!!! That is such a good feeling :D

I used to work the graveyard shift, and they make blackout shades for the window that are EXCELLENT!!! I actually didn't mind the light, but if there was even one little sound, it would wake me up and I would be ruined for the rest of the day!

Well, congrats on him graduating in May. That is very exciting. Also, we find another thing we have in common. Paul has his bachelor's in Communication & Journalism... LOL. However, he is not using it. He went back to school for his Paramedic degree, and has found his calling with the fire department.

Anyway, good luck!

Day 54 8-21-08

Stacy--Blackout shades are a great idea. Thanks! Sounds like your man is well rounded with all of his degrees and schooling. : )

Hey Kristi, thanks for stoppin by my diary :)

Sorry you're so stressed about your hubbies schedule. I've been there on that one with conflicting schedules...I went 6months where I saw my husband for only a few hours once a week. I've been having a fit lately about the same issue but it's not as bad as what you're going through right now. I hope you're hubby can handle that kind of schedule...4 hours sleep OUCH! Sleep deficit is definitely going to cause some problems.

I had to do a double take too when I saw the sleeping in the closet part, lol. I work nights too so if we'd ever had closets big enough I'd probably have been tempted myself. I found black out curtains at K-mart though for reasonable and put those up and it worked. Fans or our air conditioner cut down on alot of noise as well so he's got the right idea there. In the winter I've run ocean music to cut out noise during the day too, the ones without seagulls, lol.

Anyway talk to you soon ~ Lisa

Hey Kristi!!!!

Thanks for stopping by my diary.

You are doing great and I'm sure that everything will be JUST fine with the husband and the time away.

School is temporary so hang in there sweetie.

You're daily meals and snacks sound awesome compared to mine.

I might have to copy lols:biggrinjester:

I'm going to start using FitDay more regularly so that I can see where my calories are coming from in percentages....protein, fiber, fat and carbs, etc. What I saw was an eye opener...again! Everytime I use Fitday, I am even more enlightended than before. My fat intake is where the most of my calories came from today. These next couple of weeks I'm going to focus on getting my my fat grams MUCH lower. :ack2:

I was supposed to get my bike today but by the time I got to Academy the two bikes that were in the store that morning(hubby called the store) were GONE. :( I'm so upset. I've been waiting to get it for over a month. grrrrrr. No exercise today, just a bunch of running around doing errands. I feel like I'm getting lazy with exercise lately.

I ordered a Belly Dancing DVD tonight. (ANKE--If you're reading this ...I got on Ebay and found the one you reccomended. It's brand new and was only 5 bucks! Woohoo ...Thanks!!) Hopefully it will be here next week or the week after.

Thanks Lisa and Alisa for the encouragement! I need to keep reading that over and over so it will sink in and give me the kick in the pants that I NEED!!!!

He's just a big NERD! JK... :biggrinjester: He loves learning, and that is very sexy to me.

Same here! I'm jealous of Chris' brains! Without studying he is a B+ student. He seems to know like a kajillion random facts that just stay in his brain. I'm always amazed. He will forever whoop me in Trivial Pursuit! haha!

What?!? I think you have been doing FANTASTIC. You are definitely kicking my butt on the exercise bike. 30 minutes for me and I am only at 6 miles, and sweating like CRAZY!

I think the belly dancing sounds fun. I bet if keep doing a bunch of different workouts you'll feel better, cuz it will keep your body guessing.

Hope everything is going well with you & hubby. Don't forget that sex is a GREAT form of exercise... hee hee! :blush5:

Well thanks! I guess I feel lazy cuz I haven't done any dvds in over a week. Those are what really make me feel like I've worked hard....they make me cry! I know that I don't have to be brought to tears in order for it to be a workout, but I just really like that feeling when I challenge myself above and beyond. I AM going to do one today. If I don't then I'm going to ask my hubby to hide the computer cord and remote until I do! hah! That'll show my lazy rear! And about the sex....since I started losing this weight we have sex like every other day. Glad he's not opposed...it's been incredible! I know that once school starts on monday, things will slow down a bit...but for now I'm enjoying the..err.. um.. ...ride! hehehe ;)

HA HA HA!!! Well, you better be careful then, cuz if you start gaining weight you might need to go pee on a stick.

Have a great workout today. That's funny that you enjoy the videos making you cry, but I know what you mean about feeling great after you have pushed yourself really hard.

Fitday is awesome. I have been using it myself and it really helps. Also, if you can't find a specific food on Fitday I recommend calorieking.com That is an awesome sight and I very rarely have trouble finding a specific food on it.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Hey !!

You are doing awesome!!

And others are noticing !! That is very very cool !

I cant wait to get that first comment of someone who notices.

Stacy-Yeah, I'm a little worried about that. I guess not worried enough to use birth control though....We have the baby bug :) However, I really really hope to get out of the obesity range before I get pregnant. Here's to hoping!! ...I ended up having two very good workouts today and I'm glad I did the DVD when I did because soon after our power went out from a thunder storm! We waited about half an hour, hoping it would come back, and then me and my little guy went over to my in-laws and we're sleeping here tonight. Chris will meet us here in a bit when he wakes up(he's on his night schedule now.) Anyway, after dinner I got on the bike and didn't stop until I hit 15 miles. I think my hair was even sweating ;) :biggrinjester:

Englan-I think I'm addicted to Fitday!! I love all of the charts and graphs they give you for EVERYTHING. It's nice to see it all laid out that way. The only thing I don't like is that they don't have much to choose from for the food and I end up having to get on either calorieking or my favorite- thedailyplate.com and I have to customize everything. I know after awhile I'll be able to choose from my own list, but for now it's just so time consuming. Ah well, it's worth it though.

Michael- Thanks a bunch!!

Yea, I hear ya. Paul and I have been off birth control for the past two years now, but no luck getting preggo. At first it really bothered me. REALLY bothered me. But now, I have a new outlook. With me in school full time for nursing, and Paul a firefighter with crazy bizerko hours, it is really no wonder. Plus, now I want to be healthy before I get pregnant. For several reasons... my health, the babies health. But also, selfishly, because I want to be a cute pregnant woman.

So, here's to getting healthy and then getting pregnant!!! :beerchug:

Also, you had a fantastic day!!! Your workouts and food were awesome. I read your food diary and know I could eat exactly the same thing. We have a lot of similar interest in food (with the exception of the sweet & sour chicken...lol... I HATE things that are sweet & salty combined.)
