Jaclyn's diary

Mm, those weight watchers ice creams are really good! They're kind of expensive, but they taste great and theyre seriously low in calories, even compared to other kinds of light ice cream. My favorite is the giant cookie bar, which is vanilla ice cream on a stick covered in oreo-like cookie pieces. It's great! You should try them. I also like the giant sundae cones. Yum. They really helped with my chocolate craving and they make me feel like I'm having something special without feeling bad. Only 2 points for your WW dieters!

So I noticed that I feel inclined to eat more when I'm in a social setting. Like last night we made tacos at my apartment and my best friend's boyfriend and my friend David were there, and I limit myself to two tacos, but with David and Felipe there I felt like I wanted to eat more. I guess because everyone else kept eating and I was just sitting at the table. Interesting. I wonder if anyone else feels this way?

Oh boy, another day at school. I spent all night last night writing an outline for my movie script. I hope my teacher likes it!

Breakfast:
Slim Fast Optima, Chocolate Royale (180)
Glass of Orange Juice (50)

Lunch:
Salad with chopped up Parmesan Ranch Chicken patty, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber, with 2 tbsp of honey dijon.

I definately feel like I have to eat more when I am with certain people. One trick is to eat real slow, or chew real slow and take small bites, that way it lasts longer and you are still eating "with" them but by the time you finished your 2 tacos they may have had 4! ;)

I went to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner with my best friend. They have individual size pizzas there. So I had

1/2 individual vegetarian pizza on wheat crust. It had baby japanese eggplant, mushrooms, red onion, broccoli, roasted corn, and sun dried tomatoes. It was very good. I saved the rest for my best friend's boyfriend. He eats all of my leftovers.
Normally I would have had the whole thing. But portion control! I have no idea what the calorie count would have been, but the slices really are small, and mine were veggie packed. I feel pretty good about it.
I also had Diet Pepsi.

Oh, and I went to the gym after class today-15 minutes on the treadmill, 15 on the gazelle and I got very sweaty. My average heart rate was 160, which is perfect while exercising I'm told.

And thanks for the tip Christina!

Another trick when I am in a social setting is I serve everyone else first, or I go last to the food,...that way everyone is almost done by the time you get your food,...thus if they go back for seconds you are still on your first, and thus less likely to back for more are everyone else is done.

Your doing great!!!!!

Food and the "social setting..."

At first I was nodding in agreement with you, Fuunky, because I recalled a time about 6 years ago when we had a couple over. I had made dinner and then we set up a movie and "snacks" in the living room. The wife was (and is) a naturally thin person and when I saw her "chowing down" on the chips and salsa I kinda gave myself permission to "strap on the feed bag." I figured if she could snack away without feeling self conscious, then I could, too.

I know that one of my "pitfalls" is that I feel self conscious about food and my weight, etc. and I use other people as a ruler to guide my behavior. I know better. I know what is a proper amount of food (fuel) for my system and I eat what I know will work for me. I also reflect more on the fact that other people have varying degrees of the same rules. For instance, the friend of mine I mentioned earlier was in the early stages of pregnancy and hadn't told anybody yet.

Then I was nodding in agreement with Jennifer. When we have people over, (heck, at dinnertime with the three boys) I am always serving and making sure people have what they need and am usually last to get a plate. (Wasn't it the Chirstmas Story movie with the kid and the bb gun where he says about his mother, "I bet she hasn't had a hot meal in 15 years." It is so true.)

Of course, the danger to this behavior is that I wind up consuming calories (picking) and then when the company leaves (or the kiddos are in bed) I don't feel like I really ATE dinner and wind up overeating.

Can't win, can ya???

A friend has invited me out to California Pizza Kitchen next week. I've never
been there. Is it one of your favorite places?

I'm so glad I try to read in everyones diary's/journals. I learn so much. ;)
two thumbs up for you Funnky eating 1/2 a personal pizza. 2 months ago I could have eaten 2 whole ones! ;)

I agree with you Totallyscrappy, that's why I set myself a limit on food before we even sat down to eat it. I ate the same amount that I would have if I was by myself, and I was proud of that. But I felt an urge to keep eating, that I haven't felt in a few weeks, and I know it's because other people were there and kept eating. But they were guys, and guys should eat more! I was just happy I controlled myself.

I've only been to CPK a few times, but everytime I've been there it's been very very good. I've only had that veggie pizza on wheat, which I think is great. My best friend tried the Rosemary Chicken sandwich and she really liked it. I suggest one of the pizzas on wheat with a lot of veggies though, and ask for a box up front, give yourself a portion (I had the two smallest slices, and one largesh slice-remember, these are small slices, not even as big as a small pizzeria pizza slice) and put the rest in the box and gave it to my best friend's boyfriend. They present things very nicely there, but it's not fancy, so you don't feel uncomfortable. Oh! And they'll bring bread and butter to the table, so make sure you ask them not to (I just said no to bread yesterday!) or if your friend wants it that you force yourself to ignore it. I've had it before and it's not worth it compared to the actual food. Save room for an extra slice or something. Let me know how you like it.

Man, I've been rambling, I totally forgot to record my breakfast:

Breakfast:
Egg Beaters (60)
2 Slices Veggie Bacon (70)
Orange Juice (50)

Thanks for the tips about California Pizza Kitchen. I love the bread basket, but you telling me that it isn't that great will help me say, "No bread basket, please." And thanks for the tip about the box with your dinner. I usually take half my meal home, but I always ask for the box after I've eaten half. And then I wind up picking at the second half while the waitress takes forever to come back.
Been a long time since I had a whole wheat pizza. Phew, I'm looking forward to dinner on Friday.

Yeah, the bread isn't so hot there. Now at Outback they have that brown bread-that's worth it because it's so good. But trust me, the pizza is way better. And the whole wheat crust is delightful.

Snack:
Light Fat Free Strawberry Banana Yogurt (130)

Breakfast:
Special K with strawberries and fat free milk (170)
Orange Juice (50)

I'm liking this low sugar low calorie orange juice.

Ugh, back to work. Tomorrow I have a day off!

Oh man, so I went to the gym today after work and I felt great! I did 20 minutes on the gazelle, then I did 20 minutes worth of weight-lifting, crunches, girl push ups, stretching, and I jumped on a few resistance machines, and then I did another 20 minutes on the gazelle. A girl I work with told me her personal trainer recommends doing it that way for weight loss. And I really felt great when I was done, like I could run around my neighborhood. I was so energized. And I feel so good about what I'm doing for myself.

Which brings me to dinner. I went to Sweet Tomatoes with my best friend, and those of you who don't know, it's like a salad, soup, pasta buffet type of deal. They have all kinds of stuff there. It seems like a really healthy place, but really you have to be careful. There's all kinds of goodies you can ruin a healthy salad with, like cheese, eggs, crutons, fatty dressing, and there's a bunch of ready made salads that have mayonaise in them. There is a whole bread section with different kinds of muffins and white breads, and the pastas have heavy sauces on them. Then there's the frozen yogurt machines. I however, am proud to say that I did awesome:

Dinner:
Salad which had, romaine, spinach, and a bit of iceberg, many tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers, 1 sliced black olive for healthy fat, and a teaspoon of sunflower seeds for crunch. I had about 2 tablespoons of roasted garlic dressing with it.
And 2/3 cup of low fat tomato vegetable soup with 1 small chunk of brown indian grain bread.

And no frozen yogurt. I figured I'd be safer waiting and eating a WW ice cream, knowing the calorie count.

I'm happy.

Dessert:
WW Ice cream bar!

Thanks!

Breakfast:
I made a chocolate banana breakfast shake with a Slim Fast Milk Chocolate shake, a banana, and some ice in the blender. (320)
Also, a glass of orange juice (50)

I went and worked out after I did my grocery shopping. 20 minute warm up on the gazelle, 15 minutes of different weights and resistance machines, crunches, and stretches, and then another 20 minutes on the gazelle. Since I never got lunch I was pretty hungry.

Snack:
Light Fat Free Cherry Yogurt (130)

I need a shower, I need to do some homework, and then I need to eat dinner.

Dinner:
1 Veggie Riblet (80)
Broccoli-Mushroom-Tomato Sautee (100?) I'm trying to calculate including the olive oil it was cooked in.
Mashed Cauliflower (50) Mashed with garlic and 1 tbsp light cream cheese

Super low cal dinner and it was good and filling. I'm kind of low on calories today, especially considering how hard I worked out. But I can still have some fruit for a snack and a WW ice cream.

Your dinner out sounds so yummy,...I would love a place like that,..and look at all that excersize....I am sure those results are showing up nicely. You should be so proud, look how nicely you have turned things around for yourself,...AWESOME JOB!!!!!!!!
