I Think I Can

Flying back home tonight but wanted to post up some pictures. This place is amazing.

A picture from the back of the Pink Jeep (tour guide)...

A picture at the Honanki Ruins...

A picture above the ruins at sunset...

Wow... I haven't posted in my logs for days. I'd like to say that I've been working on a secret protocol but the truth is... I'm just slacking on my log entries.

Hmmm... let's see... since Monday...

- Core
- 1 Mile Swim
- 35 mile Bike
- Core
- 2.5 Mile Swim
- Core
- 2.5 Mile Swim
- 12 Mile Run

There! All caught up. :)

Saturday:

A mini brick workout consisting of a 20 mile bike and a 3 mile run.

Sunday:

15 minutes of core and another brick workout consisting of 1.5 mile swim, 60 mile bike, and a 6 mile run. The bike was on hills and I did some zone 4 work. The run was done on flats @ a 7:25 pace.

I'm entering the first week of taper and I'm oddly calm about the upcoming race.

Core: 15 Minutes
Bike: 20 miles @ 18mph with 3x 10 minute spinups, 5 minute recovery
Run: 2 mles @ 6:45 pace

The workouts are getting shorter as the race gets closer but the intensity will increase periodically which will keep me preoccupied.

- Core
- 8 Miles @ 8:15 pace

It was a strange workout consisting of mile repeats with 30 seconds of walking in between. I think the idea is to simulate walking through aid stations which kind of annoys me since I plan on dying before I walk next week.

EDIT:

How does anyone keep track of all of the stuff on this site???? I just found some section where people have been leaving me notes. I just want everyone to know that if I don't respond to something you ask me, I might not know that you've asked. I'd like to think I'm technologically smart but this site reminds me of how complicated a remote control can be to someone old. I guess I'm old.

oh, tisk tisk tisk- OK!

then ditch my cell number :11doh: hehehe

just kiddin with ya man!

I will be there volunteering so I can get a slot for next year.

I will be catching the winners at the finish line.

FOR YOU!! I truly hope you have a performance that far exceeds anything you though possible of yourself.

FF

Thanks!

Seems like the only way to get into IM these days IS to volunteer. Have they made any specific requirements to you as to how long you need to be there and volunteer?

Reading this, I have decided I want to train up to do a half marathon, or a triathlon or something like that.

I want a bike!

Okey dokey. Pick one, let's find you a plan and I'll coach you through it if you like. Of course, if you want to do well, you might want to find a better coach but I'm free. ;)

Thank you!

Just spoke to a mate who competes, and he directed me to this website:

He said 300m swim, 25k bike and 5k run is the small one, I would like to try here first.

I need a bike! I think end of Feb might be a good time, as I start a new job Feb 2 2009.

I will go to bike store and try and credit one, I am in abit of debt (not to much) I will aim to spend $500 (Australian).

Cool. I am currently doing weight training and cardio via soccer twice a week. Please referee to my journal on this webpage if you want to see what I have been up to.

Thank you!

Don't be stupid, I can see you are a super human being from your training log. But you have no idea what you have gotten yourself into (either do I!)

Do you mean you'd rather die than walk the aid stations, or you think you'll already be toast before you have a chance to walk the aid stations?

If its the former, than you really are Superman.

how old are you?

Unfortunately, I would rather die. I had a race gone bad last year and I really suffered but I ran the entire race. They changed the course at the last minute and the run was all hills... 18 miles of it.

41yo.

Sounds perfect! No worries... I've coached a few people through their first tri and it doesn't hurt me a bit. No guarantees on your end though. :)

Just let me know when the race is and we can work backwards to figure out when you start.

Well, gosh, at least you finished it. You didn't let that mentally defeat you to the point of having to DNF.

You're right, you are old

:D I'm kidding

I doubt I will make this mistake again but just in case, I thought I would write it down.

Dear Diary,

As you know, I like to make smoothies for breakfast. I typically buy a variety of fresh and frozen fruits in order to get the various benefits unique to specific item. As usual, I start off with an Ensure for some protein and flavor and throw in some fruit. Today I decided to try something new and added grapefruit along with strawberries, mango, and pineapple. I guess I didn't realize how overpowering grapefruit can be. Oh, did I mention the Ensure was vanilla. :(

lol. "Dear Diary" ? hehe. I agree, yuck to grapefruit.
