I Think I Can

I saw this on my ride yesterday and thought it was photo worthy. At the top, the painted letters under the top layer says:

"as essential as brakes"... but the question is WHAT is esstential as your brakes. I guess it will remain a mystery.

I know some of you think I'm trying to slow you down in your training. I am. But I'm not doing it to keep you slow, I'm doing it to keep you safe and make you faster. I pulled some of my own numbers to put this into perspective.

I ran a half marathon on Oct 5th 2008. I ran it at a 6:46 pace.

09/11/2008 training day - 08.20 miles, 8:19 pace
09/17/2008 training day - 16.00 miles, 8:08 pace
09/27/2008 training day - 13.12 miles, 8:23 pace
10/12/2008 training day - 18.00 miles, 8:37 pace
10/23/2008 training day - 12.00 miles, 8:11 pace

I haven't listed all of the workouts before and after but the majority of my running workouts look like this. My point is that my race time for the half marathon is at least one minute faster.

I plan on running a 3:30 marathon at Ironman Lake Placid and also running a sub3 marathon at CIM this year. If you look at my runs so far, they are floating around an 8:00 pace.

Hmmm... talking about my bike reminds me of ILM... where has she gone?

OK, that pic of the bike got me back, babe! :D

For us peeps who don't have a bike that nice, seeing a pic of your bike is like endless foreplay without the prospect of sex :p (i.e., torture) :azzangel:

Really liking your running times. I still don't know how anybody runs for that long without dying ...

So are you going to do the nude bike ride?

The idea of riding nude on a bicycle just seems wrong. Things getting in the way of other things making things hurt. Just a bad idea if you ask me. I'm sure it all sounded good when they were dreaming up this idea but the reality is less than pretty.

Shall I do some photos of me leaning over my bike like this...

I agree with the things getting in the way of things ... could get painful.

I think I'd have a coronary if you did that, tsil ... as you recall, I got pretty overheated just looking at you running in a triathlon :D :action4:

But who am I to stop you from leaning over your bike and taking a pic :drooling1::drooling1:

Are you really sponsored by GU now? That is SO cool!!! :)

Yup. I really am sponsored by Gu. I'm on the hunt for sponsorship because I'm tired of paying for all of this stuff. It's getting to be quite an expensive little habit I have. I should've just stuck with crack... it was cheaper. :)

It was my wife's birthday this weekend so we finished our workouts on Saturday and then drove Half Moon Bay and stayed at the Ritz Carlton. This was the view from our room...

It doesn't get much better than this. We left all of our workout stuff at home and spent some quality husband and wife time.

Can someone explain Twitter? I think I understand the concept but I don't see the draw?

I dunno...its a quick easy way to alert everyone of something you find interesting or to let everyone who follows you how you're feeling or what you're doing. I use it. I follow my close friends, some other internet people (ijustine is one), google, news sites, ect. Everything is in 1 place. Most websites are starting to integrate a twitter option so you can post a tweet to the story on their site.

Are you firefreak on Twitter as well?

EDIT: Adding a Twitter question.

How is it that I'm following people and being followed when I haven't even done anything yet?

If you have a twitter account you can be followed by anyone who adds you to their follow list. You will be able to see anything they address directly at you only. You shouldn't be following anyone just by signing up.

no...my twitter is spatak...though that wouldn't be a bad idea for a switch if it wasn't already taken.

edit: changed my name to fire_freak

Got it. Let me see if this thing can keep my attention for more than a minute. :)

Ran a 10k this morning but couldn't get it under 40 minutes.

Finish time: 40:21, 4th OA, 2nd AG

I'm pretty happy but would've loved to gone under 40 this early. Maybe next time.

Wow! Fast! I'd like to break 50 minutes in a 10k.
