1 Week after the 18in4 diet

Hello! I hope you are all happy and well. I'm great, just thought I'd write for the people who want to know about my experience with this diet. I finished the diet one week ago (I lost 6lbs in the 4 days) and went back to my 18 weightwatchers points (1550 Kcals per day). I weighed in this morning at 9st 12 3/4 lbs so I'm over the moon that the weight I lost on the 18in4 diet has stayed off and I've even lost another 1/4 of a pound! I will write next Tuesday again. Good luck to you all in whatever way you choose to loose weight.

hi guys
i am also one of those really stupid people who will try any diet.
i have just finished the 18in4 diet, and im waiting on some miracle diet pill to be delivered, i know they work in the long run i just cant help myself, i havnt been able to loose the wieght any other way.

since january i have been exercising everyday, i have also cut out all chocolate, crisps, biscuits, i have been eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, and i havnt lost a ounce.

What are your current stats (height/weight/age)
Do you know exactly how many calories you are taking in a day? (there are a ton of sites, like that can keep track of calories youo enter)
What have you been doing exercise-wise...

Check the stickied thread in the nutrition forum -there's a link in there to a calculator that will help determine based on your age/sex/weight/height and activity level approximately how many calories you should be taking in a day... it will give you your BMR -which is calories needed for survival should you never get out of bed... and the harris benedict formula which takes into consideration activity.

While there's no one size fits all for every person -this willgive you a range to shoot for -and you can adjust accordingly...

im 38 and im 5ft 7in and weigh 11st 13lbs, i have been eating about 1200 cals a day, and i do 30mins on a trampette each morning. I have been a yoyo dieter since my first child was born 20years ago, but it has never been this hard to lose the weight, any advice on what i am doing wrong would be gratefully recieved.

So in numbers I can understand you're 5'7" and weight 167...

You're bmr is calculated at about 1500 calories

That's the calories you need were you to never get out of bed...

To find your lifestyle calories
Same source as above, and if you'd read the stickied threads you'd get this info easily...
Harris Benedict Formula
To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:

If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9

30 minutes on the trampette (not sure what that is.. but we'll give you lightly active for that

that puts your maintenace at just over 2000 calories - now subtract 500ish from that to lose 1lb a week.. and the minumum calories you should be taking in a day is 1500 -

1200 isn't working

What youneed to consider is dumping the diet mindset - because it clearly doens't work... you want a lifestyle change...

Again I'll suggest reading the stickied threads int he forum - especially exercise and nutrtion -I think you can make a lot of improvements with your workout -that would enable you to get more bang for your exercise buck...

thank you maleficent, i have registered with fitday and i think i have found my problem, even though my diet was low in fat and cals, it was very high in carbs, so i am starting a new diet today by reducing my carbs and having more protien, hopefully this will work. thank you for your help.
trampette is a small trampoline

Carbs dont make a person fat - too many calories do... though some people are a little more sensitve to them.. keep your calories in line -and keep consistent and you should get the results you're looking for..

You also might want to consider changing up your workout routine so that you're getting more calorie expendetire and some strength training as well

18 in 4 i tried it out

I usually do not register anywhere to post a comment but this time i had to. Im a single dad and since my son has moved in with me i gained like 30 pounds! I walk regular and lite jogging. But with his activities and me having to be there i have really gone off track. Its late when his sports are done and we ( or should i say I ) have become lazy. Its easier to hit a dollar menu or put a 15 minute pizza in the oven than it is to take the time to cook a meal.
So i stumbled across this diet and tried it out.

The claim for 18 pounds in 4 days i suppose could be true but even i know its not healthy to lose that much weight so quickly. But i did lose weight and i felt like it was a good way to jump start things and get on track again. I lost 10 pounds in 5 days. ( water weight maybe? ) but thats what the scale said. But i continued my daily walk routine. 20 minutes high intensity. Where i wasnt losing anything before with old habits i quickly lost ten with that program.

The foods arent bad. Grapefruits, beans, tomatoe and prune juice. Hamburger, chicken, water, eggs, prune juice, apples, Tuna, coffee, tea etc. So where is any of this bad?
Its all cheap food , its good for you and easy to make!

I prepped for 4 days in one hour and my grocery bill was only 30 bucks.I felt better and had energy. After four days you seem to get a sence of how you should eat and incorporate better foods for the days you are not on it. After a week or two i went back on it. I lost 5 more pounds.
So 15 pounds in a month. That is not a stretch by any means of an unrealistic goal, while dieting with cardio.

Granted i was already doing cardio, i was eating wrong and this helped me out, big time. I sent him an email thanking him and i feel better. It is something i will keep doing for a long time. I hate tomatoe juice. I hate prune juice, But hey, it works, So i drink it.

I think some people should not be so negative , especially if they dont have the facts about something. And if you have never tried it, you really do not have the right to call something false. You need to take in less than you burn and you need to do it healthy. These foods are healthy, so whats the problem and why do some say it is unhealthy?

What is the food you can not eat, in this diet?

** The point it's that food are enough, for your nutritional needs...?!

*You never thing you loss 10 pounds in 5 days.. and that weight was just water, because is not true, if was 4 or 6 pounds... maybe.

Think...1 pound of fat it's a ~3500 calories.

SUCCESS STORY

My name is Jenn and I have done the 18 in 4. I am on my second week and I feel great.

April 7th to 10th
STARTING WEIGHT week 1: 215 lbs
4 Day later WEIGHT week 1: 202 lbs
TOTAL LOSS: 13 lbs

I am 22 and physically fit, Yes you may ask why is she over 200 pounds. For six years I have participated in track and field. work out 3 hours a day 5 days a week, starting with 1 mile run,5 set of stairs ( running three flights of stairs 5 times, throwing the weight, hammer, shot put and discus and 1 hour of weight training. I am Built Big! I have been since I was born and my goal is to be healthy. out of my size 14 and in a size 8 to 10. My daily exercise has changed in the last year. I have stopped throwing and cut down on building muscle. The goal is to loss the fat. Cardio is my friend! I bought my own Eliptical and live for exercise but while on 18 in 4 I did NOT exercise! MUST FOLLOW PLAN TO THE LETTER!

Losing weight is difficult but at this current time I feel great. I have a very busy life. Full time Engineering student, full time work, volunteer as an assistant coach and so much more... 18 in 4 fit my life style but I changed the plan a little... GO HEALTHY

When the diet calls for juice, juice your fruits and veggie. Buy a juicer, go all natural! Be who you are but just be healthier.

For any one who has lost a pound it is a pound, go to you fridge and grab a pound of butter. That pound of butter represents what you have lost. Be proud because a pound is one step closer to the goal.

THIS PLAN IS THE PLAN FOR ME. CAN IT BE FOR YOU?

Everyone how follow this diet, or the most of person... just have 1 or 5 post in this forum...why?

What the purpose of this "statement of belief"? Convincing...persuade people to follow this diet?!

Why this people don't explain exactly the plan of that diet? "The secret" wasn't so mysterious...

MUST FOLLOW PLAN TO THE LETTER!

What plan...? Can you explain your self...what do you mean to follow "the plan to the letter".

What is this plan? If we discuss something we should give a correct explanation...

They need money.

...they give me that impression too.

This forum (and another one's probaly), being like a route to them...they used it for publicity, without explain what is plan consist, they just claimed. Whether that...those person who sourcing the solution for the weight problem, in generally they aren't (in general) on good physiologic shape , and they go on this "magic diet" easily. But it's life...

Every weight loss forum, has these threads.
They come in waves. It is usually best to ignore them but sometimes I cannot. I do not want some new person to come on here thinking this is a proper way to lose weight and keep it off.
I am sure it works for a small percentage of the people, keep it off I mean, but everything will work for a small percentage of people.

Hey - 18-4

Im currently doing the 18-in-4 diet, im on my second day. I have lost 4lbs so far, but i KNOW its water weight! It makes me feel better, an i have a date on Monday, so want to feel an look as good as i can, if i can lose half an inch in water weight, then it'll boost my confidence, even if it is temporary.

Im not over weight anyway, im just a little chunky - Im 12st, 5lbs and 5ft,11 so i could do with looseing some weight. Now, the only reason im doing this is because i am gay, 20, and overweight in an image obsessed culture. So i want to look my best. An how else was i meant to loose weight in such a short time?

With reasons out the way: The diet isnt anything bad to be honest, the foods good, portions are nice, and we get to eat lean red meat like beef burgers and steak and chicken as well as fish like tuna and salmon! I dont see why this would be bad for anyone on a short term basis;

The only criticisms i can really come up with are the lack of carbohydrates, which will cause you to have mood swings over a few days - and for a carbohydrate fiend like me i have a bad mood swing on the first day. But apart from that, i felt energised and refreshed already. Looking at my tongue, the whiteish tinge has started to fade and become more red which i think is a good sign your body likes the food your eating!

So anyway, yeah, i think for a short term solution, for example, if you need to fit in those jeans or a dress etc by the end of the week, this gives you a good shot at doing it or even like me, you want to boost your confidence for a date! =)

Let it be said also though, that i respect all you people doing it the proper way alot more than the people who look for a quick fix to a long term problem, i know how hard losing weight is myself, i used to weigh almost 15st a few years ago and through hard work and alot of self control, i got down to a 32inch waist and down to 12st and feel and look a hell of a lot better, and ive being able to maintain my weight quite easily since.

So its worth it in the end you guys, and i really wish you all the very best!
