G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

I wish I knew whether or not that was a good swim or a bad swim ;)

Thats a great swim for G8r, Great job stud! You both are doing fantastic! GT great job on the lower BP!! Thats very very exciting stuff!! Great job also on that 5 miler! amazing!

That's what I figured, Sparrow. Since I don't swim anymore, it's hard for me to get a handle on times.

Plus we have to factor in lots of other things, too. Like we're not 18 anymore :D

I'm here.

Today: 1.2 miles swim in 50:00

Oh yeah, I remember that post, lol. I knew you weren't sitting idle somewhere but wondered what was going on. Glad to see things are going well.

Dam n, I'm hungry. Guess I'll demolish this apple then see what happens from there. Talk at you all later, Greg

Thanks Sparrow.

Yesterday: bench press: 135#x10, 145#x8, 145#x5
standing cable pulls: 10x3
chinups: 7, 6, 5, 4

Too tired to continue

50 minutes total on treadmill

5 minute warm up 4mph
27 minutes at a 9 min/mile pace (3 miles)
18 minutes at a 4 mph pace

total distance right around 4.5 miles

Good pace on the 10K G8r.

Nothing for me last night. May run today but more likely tomorrow.

Went thru closet this morning. Tossed out 5 pair of jeans and a couple of pairs of work pants because they are too big now. Finally back into my 34" waist jeans. By the looks of things I may be needing to go smaller once I reach my goal. Take care. Talk to ya later, Greg

chinups: 6,5,4,3
bench press: 135# 10x3, 155#6x2
standing cable pulls: 10x3
dumbbell curls: 35# 10x3

run: 3 miles

2 years ago, I was in 36 pants, now I can wear any 33, loose fit or regular fit. of any brand. My final goal is 32.

Swim: 1.2 miles in 48:00. A new PB for me. I swam this in a wetsuit in heated pool to practice for my 70.3 in April. If I can break 45:00 in that and not have a panic attack, I will be overjoyed.

Bike (fat tire mountain bike): 10 miles at 15 mph.

45 minute spin class at 5:15 am.
8 consecutive bw chinups (a new pb for me)
standing cable pulls: 10x3

2 mile run

Wow, I've lost it the last few days!!! Christmas party at work (which we were responsible for putting on), fixing up my step-sons room; mudding/taping/sanding/painting etc. The home improvements didn't affect me that much but the extra time at work has cut into my gym time since my wife is out of town. I've got my 1st 5K Saturday so I've got to get some treadmill time in tomorrow and Friday. I'll get back to it tomorrow and get back on the ball. Just figure I'd check in before someone started asking questions. Take care, Greg

Well, it's Oklahoma. It didn't make it up to 30 degrees today. However, it's supposed to be in the 60's Saturday. So, depending on what day you choose, you might be able to run outside. Thanks the good Lord for treadmills!!!

Thanks lady! I've let myself get lazy the last few days but if I can get a good workout/run in tomorrow it will snap me out of it. I'll do good in the run. Maybe under 30 minutes if I can get my chit together from now until then. Thanks again for the well wishes, Greg

Greg, don't feel obligated to bust your @ss on the treadmill now as you are in a taper - tapering from your training and now resting for your event. Besides, any training now may be counterproductive. Rely on the training you have already done. You know you can go the distance - trust yourself. Don't go more than a mile today and no more than a 12:00 pace 1/2 mile on Thursday and Friday. Then, let 'er rip on Saturday! You'll go faster in a structured race than you would by yourself or on the treadmill, so I'm expecting you to break 30:00 and if you don't it's because you're a chump! How about that for motivation?

Chump, huh? Now you've had it. It's only 3 miles and I did that the other day at a 9 min/mile pace with no "kick" at the end.

Thanks for the advice on the taper. It just kind of worked into the schedule that way this week. I'll do a slow mile today then a 1/2 either Thursday or Friday then crank it out Saturday. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks, Greg

Swam .8 miles in ocean in full wetsuit in 63F water. I was the only one in the water at the beach. Outbound.4 mile in 27:00 and return .4 in 22:00. Current was behind me on the outbound, but I was not warmed up and had to stop every 100 or so yards to catch my breath. On the the return, I focused on slowing down and making steady progress and only had to make one short rest stop at the halfway, even though I was going against the current with the water splashing over my head. I was very pleased with the return. I made a mental effort to exhale out my mouth but reverted to nose breathing when I forgot, but, I had no problems with the salt water burning my nose as in the past. Overall, a very successful swim. A few more swims like this and the 1.2 mile open water swim in April will not be so intimidating.

Gym work:
bench press: 135#x10, 155#x5, 165#x6, 165#x5
chinups: 7, 6, 5
dips (bodyweight): 10x2. My wired sternum started clicking so I stopped.
bicep curls: 35#x10x3
tricep cable pulldowns: 10x3

bike: 19.8 miles in 72:00 (16.5 mph) on Trek mountain bike with fat, low pressure tires. I wanted to go 24.8 (40K), but that seat killed my butt.
