I got lots of exercise yesterday working in the yard in 30 degree weather. I had to move quite a bit of firewood and I was worried that carrying large loads by hand or wheelbarrow would aggrevate my back. The solution was to carry the firewood 2 sticks at a time which made for a sustained walk with light resistance for about 25 minutes. Then I moved some brush and logs (rolled them) which was probably another 20 minutes of more intense work. The back feels fine again today.
329.6 doesn't please me, but I suppose I may have went a little over on calories as i didn't track it really.
Yesterday I had
3x bean and egg breakfast tacos (bean egg onion salsa small tortilla)
Homeade chickpea patty sandwich (pan fried so not the healthiest)
2nd chickpea patty plain
popcorn (air popped no butter) 1/3 cup kernels
6 green olives
baked lays chips
I maybe ate 2 servings of baked Lays chips @120 calories each. I drank water, diet soda, and black coffee yesterday. I do't really feel that i was over 1,800 by my estimation and if i was it was by very little. I'm frustrated by my weight a bit.
Since last Saturday: Lots of exercise, zero drinking, 1 meal with meat, zero dairy, at 1,800 calories except for 2 possible days still below maintenance calories, and I gain weight.
Oh well.
This next week will be a real challenge to the diet as I will have to buy groceries each day (per diem) and prepare my own food in a hotel room in order to stick to my diet. I will be in an area where I don't have any real options for eating out and we are away from any town or restaurant until night time. Generally when we are down there it's breakfast at the hotel, lunch is bought in the morning from a gas station, and dinner is a greasy heavy Tex Mex restaurant. You generally get back to the first town well after you would usually eat dinner and the tex mex place is the only place there. Even the rice and beans are cooked with lard and it is all meat and cheese. The 2 "specialties" are a platter sized beef and cheese burrito and beef and cheese enchildas in a cream sauce with fried eggs on top.
My plan is to eat breakfast at home and pack a lunch for the first day. I'l spend my whole per diem at the grocery store that night for dinner plus staples for at least the next day (tortillas, nuts, dried fruit, pull top canned beans veggies and fruit). Then I can use my per diems as needed at the store at night and for things from the gas station that won't be too bad (nuts, granola, drinks). I think if I stick to the plan I can do this. Exercise is already taken care of with the long days of field work, but I will bring my running shoes in case I can manage some more or if we have a slow day. Also walking and/or jogging will be needed after the 8 hour truck ride to get there tomorrow.
