From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Okay, back from vacation. I didn't do much, but I was glad to be away from work. I overate on Thanksgiving and on the day after as well. I tried not to leave with too much leftovers, but that was my Friday food. I've been back on track diet-wise since Saturday. I need to get after it on exercise. I will likely wait until Saturday to hit the scales as I know my weight rebounded and I don't care to see it.

Welcome back from the vacation.

I too have leftovers, and I also have a pumpkin pie which I was supposed to bring and forgot. Now I have a pumpkin buy and a tub of cool whip sitting in my house. I've finished off most of the turkey leftovers though.

As for the weight, you probably didn't do as much damage as you thought.

I hope not. I'll be really strict on the 1800 until Saturday and see what the scale reads. 2 small slices of pie was the grand total on sweets which is pretty good for me. They were pecan pie and the pecans were straight from my parent's tree and really yummy. Dressing, rolls, and casseroles (green bean and broccoli) are were I did the real work Thursday and Friday. Honestly I only ate a 400 calorie breakfast and the giant meal Thursday and two more reasonably sized meals the next day with my regular breakfast. I drank beer Thursday night and again Saturday so that didn't help. I'll be fine.

Ugh. I've had real trouble sleeping the last couple nights. I was so tired all day yesterday, but then I was laying there awake until this morning. The couple hours sleep isn't helping my back. I got some exercise in last night thinking that would make for great sleep. :( Silver lining: I was good on calories and didn't drink. I'm hoping tonight will be better. I had benadryl and hydrocodone last night and still couldn't sleep. I had difficult time getting in a comfortable position with my back last night.

No caffeine after noon today and I will try to get my exercise in again. It's partially getting readjusted to my work schedule and partly the stress of some big projects coming up.

Hey Quercus, I hope you get some sleep tonight. Big projects at work are effective de-motivators for my diet/excercise as well. They make me eat and not want to work out. Good luck, and try to stay focused on health. Maybe just a quick 10-15 minute walk during a break from work could help lots.

Thanks GreenSurf and solid advice.

Well the big project got cancelled so now I can focus my worries on how slow things have been at work instead of how much I have to do. I'm sleeping tonight. If I have to take nyquil I will. I plan to be in bed by 9:30 at the latest. I haven't been this sleepy/tired in a very long time. My eyes burn and I'm achy and chilled. If this doesn't get remedied soon I am going to get sick. 3 hours and 19 minutes until I can head home.

32 minutes 33 seconds jog/walk avg. HR 143

The back sucked today and I am exhausted. I'm sick of babyng my back as it doesn't seem to help. I started walking and then forced myself into a normal as possible gait. That got easier quick and so I started jogging slowly. That went back and forth to stay in the aerobic zone. It didn't take much jogging to get out of the aerobics zone and my recovery stank. My back, hip, and leg feels much better, but my tremors are actually more pronounced. We'll see if I can walk tomorrow.

328.0 this morning. A bit disappointing as I had two days over calories out of 12 days since I first hit 326. I usually have a jump in weight following a return to exercise so maybe the first intense workout in a very long time is at least partially the cause. I'm not disheartened. I will continue along at 1,800 calories and keep the exercise coming. I've also been on the old wagon for the past few days. I haven't drank since the last day of November and I will be making this a permanent fixture with maybe just the occasional indulgence at most.

The back and leg feel quite good this morning and even though I was kept awake later than I wanted by stomach woes, I slept like a log last night. The stomach feels fine this morning.

Perhaps the gain is because you lost a bit of muscle and gained it back with the exercise? I'm sure it'll go down again soon.

I think probably water retention. Usually the jump is proportionate to how sore I get. I didn't weigh before so it's all conjecture at this point, but I will lose quick either way if I can keep the ball rolling on the exercise and stay at 1,800 calories.

This was harder this evening as I ate first (no choice) and my shins were a bit sore already.

327.2 this morning. Heading in the right direction anyway. My clothes are loser than 326 was so I'm pleased about that. I will have a couple pairs of jeans to test for fit this weekend. If they fit I will be ousting the size 42s once and for all.

Lots of field work today with dropping temperatures. I predict a lot of exercise and a heavy late lunch with a client in my future. I had a 400 calorie breakfast, so a big lunch will just mean a light dinner and I can still do 1,800 calories.

We are having very weird weather here! Yesterday it was warm & sunny & mid afternoon a storm blew through & it was FREEZING. Hope your back starts to improve soon Q xo Cate

We have the opposite temperature direction here in Florida -- 80's for the second day in a row tomorrow after our moderate cold spell last week. But probably what you're experiencing out west/north will be getting to us in a few days.

35 and raining this morning. Turning to ice pellets before noon and below freezing soon after. It's going to be a messy ride home this evening. I'll be surprised if we don't lose electricity with all of the dead trees + ice. We have a wood stove which is nice, but we only have well water and no generator so no showers/toilets if we lose power. I should have filled the tubs last night, but I didn't think of it. Hopefully I can get home and fill them. That way after all 3 toilets have been flushed you can add water from the tubs. I don't think it will stay bad more than a day or two.

330. this morning. Looks like the big salty meal really made me blow up. I was hungry last night so I had a normal (vegan) dinner and probably wound up eating 2,200 calories instead of 1,800. That's still below my maintenance level of calories and it certainly wouldn't account for a 3 pound gain. I'll drink lots of water today and it should be back down tomorrow.

I got way more exercise yesterday than my jog/runs have been. I was in the field in a tshirt and long sleeve button up in 40 degree breezy weather. I was trying to get everything done before the cold rain set in, so we moved very quickly and got a days worth of work done in a little over 4 hours. I worked up a sweat in the cold weather enough to soak through both shirts. I was beat by the time I got home. I didn't drink nearly enough water and then had a big salty meal. I woke up feeling hungover this morning which tells me I was dehydrated. I haven't drank since my vacation last week BTW.

I'm unconcerned with today's weigh-in. I will likely be out of town next week where food is a challenge without dietary restrictions. I was lazy and didn't get the jerky made, so I won't have a base to start with. I will fight to make do out there. I can grocery shop and get reimbursed, but I have to buy the groceries 1 day at a time and the days typically run 10-16 hours down there. Lots of exercise at least. I'm also happy to report that I am starting day 3 of my back feeling really good. Yesterday was a real strain and my legs are sore form it, but my back seems unphased. I tripped up a couple times rushing around and though that would have me hobbled up today.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Glad to hear your back is feeling better! That's great news :)

Good luck with the food choices next week! Hope you manage to get some healthy grocery shopping done.

I got lots of exercise yesterday working in the yard in 30 degree weather. I had to move quite a bit of firewood and I was worried that carrying large loads by hand or wheelbarrow would aggrevate my back. The solution was to carry the firewood 2 sticks at a time which made for a sustained walk with light resistance for about 25 minutes. Then I moved some brush and logs (rolled them) which was probably another 20 minutes of more intense work. The back feels fine again today.

329.6 doesn't please me, but I suppose I may have went a little over on calories as i didn't track it really.

Yesterday I had
3x bean and egg breakfast tacos (bean egg onion salsa small tortilla)
Homeade chickpea patty sandwich (pan fried so not the healthiest)
2nd chickpea patty plain
popcorn (air popped no butter) 1/3 cup kernels
6 green olives
baked lays chips

I maybe ate 2 servings of baked Lays chips @120 calories each. I drank water, diet soda, and black coffee yesterday. I do't really feel that i was over 1,800 by my estimation and if i was it was by very little. I'm frustrated by my weight a bit.

Since last Saturday: Lots of exercise, zero drinking, 1 meal with meat, zero dairy, at 1,800 calories except for 2 possible days still below maintenance calories, and I gain weight.

Oh well.

This next week will be a real challenge to the diet as I will have to buy groceries each day (per diem) and prepare my own food in a hotel room in order to stick to my diet. I will be in an area where I don't have any real options for eating out and we are away from any town or restaurant until night time. Generally when we are down there it's breakfast at the hotel, lunch is bought in the morning from a gas station, and dinner is a greasy heavy Tex Mex restaurant. You generally get back to the first town well after you would usually eat dinner and the tex mex place is the only place there. Even the rice and beans are cooked with lard and it is all meat and cheese. The 2 "specialties" are a platter sized beef and cheese burrito and beef and cheese enchildas in a cream sauce with fried eggs on top.

My plan is to eat breakfast at home and pack a lunch for the first day. I'l spend my whole per diem at the grocery store that night for dinner plus staples for at least the next day (tortillas, nuts, dried fruit, pull top canned beans veggies and fruit). Then I can use my per diems as needed at the store at night and for things from the gas station that won't be too bad (nuts, granola, drinks). I think if I stick to the plan I can do this. Exercise is already taken care of with the long days of field work, but I will bring my running shoes in case I can manage some more or if we have a slow day. Also walking and/or jogging will be needed after the 8 hour truck ride to get there tomorrow.

Sounds like a lot of planning for your meals! Hope it all works out and you are able to eat as healthy as possible.
