From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Yeah I've certainly tried a lot! Jellyfish, flying fish roe, grasshoppers, ants, fritas de maguey (fried maggots),

Maggots?! *shudder* I no longer want a snack right now, so thank you, Quercus. haha!

I'm just trying to get caught up on diaries. I'm so behind on them. I hope the last few days have gone well for you. :)

Hi Jen! yep pretty disgusting. It might have been better not to share that one. Actually it turns out i didn't eat maggots I mistakenly thought "maguey" meant maggot in spanish, but it means agave. So "frita de maguey"means fries of agave which it turns out are catepillars of a moth. That's better right?

Anyway, I got a lot of exercise this week due to work and did better on my diet, but had no loss. I have very few pants that fit at this point and only one of them are in good shape. I'm pretty sore and stiff today. That's good I just have to keep moving. I'm still not consistently counting calories, but I obvioulsly have to start.

Just a quick hi Q, to say I'm back. Will catch up with your diary later today- sounds very interesting! xo Cate

If counting calories is what you have to do, than that’s what you have to do. I don’t really count mine anymore, although I probably should start up again too. I just hate it! :(

Glad to hear you got a lot of exercise in along with diet improvements. That’ll go a long way for you.

I have dove and duck breasts marinating for the grill this evening. The back feels crappy today, but I feel sure that is delayed soreness from the fieldwork and that I'll feel better tomorrow if not later today.

On the calorie counting, I broke mine up by meal rather than keeping a running track all day. So something like:

Breakfast = 500
Snack #1 = 100
Lunch = 500
Snack #2 = 100
Dinner = 850
Dessert = 150

Total = 2200

That way once I'm done with a particular meal, as long as it's around the right number of calories, I no longer have to worry about it.

What you're really talking about with a 2200 calorie diet is trying to eat between 2000 and 2400 calories a day with it all averaging out to 2200 long term. Same goes for any other calorie level.

That's a good approach Vee. I've had a lot of mindless eating and a lot of why did I order that? I feel a bit stuck in a rut at the moment, but I am doing well today and trying to start a good habit.

So here is where I am. I am officially back to counting calories. I need to eat 2,200 calories a day on average and burn an additional 700 a day to lose an average 2 pounds a week. The extra 700 calories is 40 minutes with a HR in the mid 140's. I can likely get away without exercis eon field days, but I may carry my HR monitor into the field for my own info.

Today so far I've had 600 calories between breakfast and snack. 1,600 calories left with a light lunch already packed.

So I was good on calories yesterday. I spent 11 hours in the field and I am exhausted today. My weight was up this morning, but I got into a pair of jeans this morning that didn't fit last week. I'm doing very good on calories today with 1200 calories left for dinner. The downside is that my back is rather sore and I feel a bit sick. Mild fever and congestion isn't that big of a deal, but I need to be rested and well by Saturday for opening morning of deer season.

Great job on the calories today, and getting into those jeans! Hopefully you feel better by Saturday. Good luck! :)

Thanks Jen and Vee! I am feeling better today. My wife was up all night feeling poorly so I got little sleep too. Even so I feel better than yesterday. I don't feel feverish or as congested and my back feels better. I am guessing it was bad allergies from the long dusty day in the field. I should feel great after getting to sleep tonight. Calories are still very good. Every day has been between 2,200 and 2,500 which is acceptable for getting started and I will tighten it down to make a 2,200 average as I adjust. The weight was back down into the 3 twenties this morning despite a very salty lunch yesterday. I will have a lower weigh-in by Saturday if I can remember to weigh at 4 something in the morning when I wake up to go hunting. Tonight is my last chance at a good night's sleep. Wish me luck!

So happy to hear you're fitting into clothes you haven't been able to. That is so motivating! It shows you're making progress which is great. Good for you!

Glad you're starting to feel better. Something nasty is going around here too. My mom was sick, then I got it, and now my dad is dealing with it. Not to mention the people we work with. The down side of this time of year is all those nasty colds! Ick!

I hope you're back is feeling better today. :)

Also, as much as I'm not a hunter and hate seeing animals killed, good luck to you on your hunting venture. I'm not against hunting. I just couldn't doing it myself. Heck I save spiders these days. LOL

Thanks Cate and Mandy!

Mandy I don't kill spiders either. I don't enjoy the killing part. I enjoy the hunting and the eating, but the actual killing and butchering is just the necessary in between. Thanks for understanding. I get that it isn't something most people want to deal with.

I weighed in at the same weight as I have been for the last couple of weeks this morning 329.6, but I was up in the 330s earlier in the week. I'm hoping it will drop some more by tomorrow, but I'm pleased that I am doing right and the scale will do what it wants.

I was on for calories yesterday at about 2,300.

I don't think I've mentioned, but I have started drinking again and that has likely been part of teh problem. I fit a beer and some wine in this week within my calories, but it's clear that this will be a lot easier if I'm not drinking calories. So I'm back on the wagon with the reservation that I will drink on Thanksgiving if I want and I'll decide about the other holidays later.

Hi Q- In lots of ways it's a shame the world has gone so far away from basic eating for survival. What I am trying hard to do is to only eat animals that have been well looked after & have free-ranged (in practice, not just 1hr a day) & we also buy wild rabbits from a guy who shoots them himself. We only eat free-range eggs & are also eating more & more organic food & grow lots of vegies. Every little bit can make a difference. Killing feral animals for food is so responsible & smart!
Hey, it looks like there's a few of us on the wagon- V, you & me, that I know about. Want a challenge to see who can last the longest?

I'd be up for a contest. That's cool that you are a responsible eater. Our rabbits are native, but they are tasty and quite good at ummmm maintaining their population. They are a non-native invasive in your neck of the woods that were introduced in the 18th century to Australia and the 19th century in Tasmania. I've read a bit about it and the attempts at control like disease introduction and rabbit proof fencing. We have coyotes, raptors (hawks/owls/eagles), and rednecks to keep them in check here.

You win already!! Went 6 days without alcohol. My sister & my husband were about to have a stubby of cider each at the end of the day & I caved in & had a 200ml piccolo of Henkell Trocken Brut. :blush5: Moderation Cate, moderation & mostly days without any alcohol. Still well within my cals for the day though & one was enough.
