I have a bag full of dove breasts that a friend gave to me thawing in my fridge now. I also added a squirrel to the mix and I will probably grill them in a day or 2 depending on how quickly they thaw. I imagine pigeon would be like dove (delicious). Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, or an omnivore, something must die in order for you to live. I grew up hunting, fishing, and raising chickens and rabbits. I learned from an early age that meat is a living breathing thing before you eat it regardless of the kind.
Every meat you eat comes from a living creature that experiences pain and fear. Hunting or raising an animal for meat makes that reality plain. Accepting the responsibility of making a creature's death as humane as possible and making the effort to butcher the animal with your own hands gives you the ability to have control over what you put into your body. It allows you to appreciate the brevity and fragility of life as well as the necessity of death to support life.
That being said I realize most people don't have the opportunity to experience their food as directly as this and that many who have opportunity to do so choose not to. I would also like to point out that despite my adventurousness with trying different foods, I eat very little meat. The alligator on the 14th was my last meat and an exception made from my general rule of only eating wild game. Egg and cheese are the only animal products I've had since the 14th (unless I've forgotten something). I've had tofu, tempeh, nuts, and beans aside from egg and cheese for protein.
I amazingly can still keep from losing weight. I eat way too much bread, cheese, chips, and crackers. I've done really well so far today with eggs and soy sausage fro breakfast and tofu/veggie pho for lunch. Maybe dove for dinner?
tl/dr Sure I eat weird stuff, but not that much of it and I give it a lot of thought.
