Dog Walkers Club

Add that to the previous 64.8 miles, and our new total is 66.7miles!

Just got back in from another nightly walk. Was in the upper 90's so waited again till the sun went down, and still could tell he getting worn out quicker than normal.

We did walk for about 30 min and got in another 1.73 miles, so our new total is 68.4 miles.

Sorry forgot to post the distances!

Yesterday - 3 miles

Today - just 1 mile im afraid

So that's four added :) Total: 72.4 miles Not far to NY now!

I took Kali out to deliver our neighborhood newsletter this morning. Poor pup - she was soooo excited as we approached every house because she loves to visit people. But I just slipped the newletter under the mat. She was so dissappointed when I turned around at each door. But ever the optimist, she had that dumb "oooo, goody!" look on her face for every single one of the 30+ houses we went too!

So today, 3 miles. New total of 77.4 miles!

Awesome job folks!

I was to take Finnegan for another evening walk yesterday, but we had a terrible storm come thru- tree limbs, and water everywhere. I do plan on walking him tonight tho!

^ I was going to get Kali out again last night because my fiance said she was acting like a monster. It started raining the instant I got home! Doh! I should get a good walk in this morning though.

No walk this morning. My neighbor and I are having some issues (actually, the issues are with his business partner who is helping build the house next door). I got a little uppity last night and called him to complain about something - I've never done it before and felt bad afterwards. Anyway, I ran into him the instant I left the house with Kali and we talked for an hour and half. Things are smoothed over again, so that's a plus, but I didn't have time to walk the dog after that! Always an excuse...

Tonight I have a neighborhood meeting. It's about 2 miles away. Maybe I could walk her there and then have my fiance pick her up since it's at the library and no pups are allowed! Otherwise, she won't get a walk today. :(

Still feeling ill so only 1 mile today :(

Hopefully get some really long walks in this weekend (if this damned chest infection finally gets better!) so the puglet will just have to wait til then!

New total 75.4 miles

We went out to the woods this morning. Kali spotted some deer and took off after them...and came back limping. Little twerp almost convinced me to carry her home...but then she saw a rabbit and took off again. I made her walk the 3/4 of a mile home after that.

She completely passed out when we got there. I'll probably have to take it easy on her this weekend. And I wanted to start running again with her next week!

Today 2 miles, for a new total of 77.4 miles.

Wow, the miles are really adding up lately! Keep up the good work everyone! Yarmiah, where have you been?!?

hello darling I have a dog chow mix with shepared and I walk her near a park I live at but tell me how fast do u have to walk to lose weigh her pace or faster? she gets walk 3times a day. and how do u get that ticker ruler on your post?

It depends on a lot more than just the pace of your walk to lose weight. A really leisurely stroll still burns more calories than sitting on the couch. But a fast paced power walk burns even more. I typically walk 3-4 mph while walking the dog and burn between 300-400 calories per hour. If it were up to my pooch, we would be sprinting the whole time and chasing squirrels. I usually have to hold her back when I hit about 4 mph, because that's about as fast as I can go! As long as you burn more calories than you are eating, you will lose weight.

The directions for the ticker are here:

Your dog get's walked 3 times a day! Wow, lucky doggie. How far are the walks? What's your dog's name?

Well, Kali is limping pretty bad this morning. She switches between completely not using the leg and only putting slight pressure on it. Seems like something will set her off and she would not rather try again for awhile so she just holds the leg in the air for a few minutes.

So no walks this weekend (well, for her at least!). Hopefully on Monday she will be up for a short jaunt. Certainly no running this week like I had planned. I need to start slow with her since I need to get her in shape, but I think I'll just go ahead and start REAL slow and she can catch up next week.

I generally walk my dog (and my mother, haha) every evening. I adopted my canine friend from a shelter the summer before I started college. We believe she is a basschund, or in simpler terms, a basset hound and dachshund mix. Talk about a low rider! She has that irresitably sad basset face and large body, yet more of the dachshund structure. She's a sausage with little stubby legs! The shelter named her Miss Delaware, and it stuck. We call her Delaware, mostly Dela... but we do have ridiculous nicknames. Affectionately we call her Dela-bear or Nelson ManDela-- I'm such a nerd.

Because she is a little on the lazy side like the basset, my dog is pudgy. At the vet she weighed 53 pounds, and we were given strict orders to not allow her to gain weight. When I first got her from the shelter I believe she was maybe 35. She was underfed, so perhaps getting her down to the lower 40s may suit her better. We've been walking steadily since the end of my spring semester. Hopefully I can keep it up! My dog deserves it.

Hey wordslinger!

My pooch gains weight if I don't walk her for awhile. I'm usually so active with her that when I stop, she really puts on the pounds! Plus she is just a year old and we are always adjusting how much food she gets as she has started to stop growing. She's nice and lean now though!

Currently, our club is on it's way to NY:

Group Challenge #1- to walk ourselves and our canines from
Chesapeake (BAY RETRIEVER) City Maryland, to
Boston (TERRIER) Massachusettes. A total distance of 381 miles
-@58 miles to Philadelphia, Pa
-@another 93 miles to NY City, NY
-@another 118 miles to Hartford, CT
-@another 101 to our final destination of BOSTON, MA!

So just keep track of your miles and add then to the total (80.4 miles) when you get a chance. Happy walking!

I went ahead and took Kali out last night despite her limp. She was SO excited to go and kept running to the door when we usually go for a walk. So I took her out for a real short one. She passed out as soon as we got home!

So just 1 mile yesterday, for a new total of 81.4 miles!

Holy smokes! Alot of activity on the thread when I'm not around LOL. I took my kids camping this weekend- unfortunately no dogs allowed, so no additional miles from me.

Welcome looking good & wordslinger! the more folks we have, the quicker we can get to Boston!

Group Challenge #1- to walk ourselves and our canines from

My calculations are a little off- when you add those distances, it only totals 370 miles- stupid GOOGLE MAPS! LOL Anyway, I also thought i would note the total miles needed to reach each milestone (with added adjustments):

58 miles reaches Philadelphia,PA- MET 6/7/07
155 miles reaches NY City, NY
219 miles reaches Hardford, CT
381 miles reaches BOSTON, MA!

On our way to the Big Apple!

Hey, yarmiah! glad you had a good trip. I was wondering where you were! :p I've been looking for some more hikes in my area that allow dogs and I have been so surprised at how many places don't. Too bad you couldn't take Finn with you!

As you read, Kali is out of commission for a bit. She was still kinda limping today, but not the full three-legged limp where she wasn't using the leg at all. She is really stiff in the morning when I let her out, but seems to be pretty good once she gets going. I think she'll be ready to go tomorrow!

Hey mad!

I had something similiar happen to Finnegan. A few weeks ago I took him to a dog park for the first time- he LOVED it. He ran and ran, and rolled, and licked and ran some more. After about 30 min I noticed he was limping a little- I checked his legs, didnt see anything and he didnt react when I squeezed and played with his leg. I assumed he pulled a muscle from running so hard. The next day was worse, instead of one leg, he seemed to be alternating limping on different feet. Again, I checked him out, squeezed and rotated his feet/legs and still, no reaction from Finnegan. It wasnt until later when he was sleeping, I saw the culprit- the pads of his feet were RAW! He must have ran so hard/so much he wore the callus's off the pads of his feet, poor thing. I put some hydrogen peroxide on them, and kept an eye for infection but luckily, he healed up pretty quick.

Meanwhile, it's now raining (again - tho I shouldn't complain knowing what the folks in the midwest are dealing with) and not sure when it's gonna quit, so may not be able to walk Finnegan tonight. Certainly hope to get a walk in tomorrow, if not later tonight.

Kali and I went on another short walk today. She is still limping at weird times. She acts almost like she's got something stuck in her paw! I've checked and checked and checked - and I did look at her pads too Yarmiah! Everything looks perfectly fine. It's getting better though, so I guess I shouldn't worry too much.

So today was a 1.1 mile walk for a new total of 82.5 miles.

Come on guys, we've slowed down a little this week! Let's pick up the pace!
