Dog Walkers Club

Okay....Jack and I walked/jogged 5.4 miles today. He was a little tuckered by the time we got back home. :)

He was so funny....I use a choke collar when walking him on the busy 2 lane highway that leads to the state park that we enjoy walking in. When he heard that choke chain rattle, he ran to the door and started talking to me. He knew that chain sound meant we were going for a proper walk.

Hey there!

I too often use a prong collar when taking Finnegan for a walk - he likes to pull and is strong enough to pull me down if he wanted to. I also have a harness, but the prong is better until I get him back into a routine.

madness previous total = 82.5 miles
+ judyb (and Jack) 5.4 miles today
+ ME (and Finnegan) 1.8 miles today

Total = 89.7 miles! WOO HOO!

Was gonna walk Finnegan yesterday, but Thursday's I do my cleaning, then I had to do some grocery shopping. By the time I got all that done it was going on 9pm, and the skies opened up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that itwill stay dry this evening so I can walk him tonight!

Total = 89.7 miles!

Rain subsided in the early evening, so Emma and I took Finnegan for his walk. We stopped at RITA's but I was a good girl and skipped the treat.

Added 1.75 miles to new total is 91.45 miles!

Yesterday, I got a short walk in, just a mile. Today I took Kali for 2 miles. She is still kinda limping so I'm trying to take it easy on her, but she has SO much energy that I have to do something! If she is still limping on Monday, I might have to call the vet. This pup is one expensive dog!

So 3 miles for me, for a new total of 94.45 miles!

Braving the weather this week, I have walked 10.8 miles with my dog in the past week. Her excess weight is coming off slowly but surely. The energy is coming back to her slowly as well.

And I'm quite the idiot... she now has a walking companion.... My mother conned me into purchasing another dog from the shelter we purchased Delaware two years ago. The animal shelter was outside of Pet Smart when my mother went to pick up necessities with my dog. Delaware made a beeline for the adoption cages and picked out her friend. My mother sent me pictures via phone and after work I eventually broke down and bought the dog.

His name is Stubby or Mr. Stubbs (as we sometimes call him). He's a basset hound with the same temperament as my Delaware, who is a basset hound and dachshund mix. He fits in so well with my family, it is perfect.

So now my mother and I both have dogs to walk each evening.

^ Ah, you are the type of sucker that dog rescue groups love to see! I know, because I used to work for one for years! It's sooo hard to pass up a dog that you know needs your help. Happy to hear about the addition to your family!

So, wordslinger adds 10.8 miles for a new total of 104.45 miles!

My fiance walked Kali and I to work and he took her home. So that's just 1 mile for me and Kali. But I am happy to announce that she is not limping at all anymore so we can get back on track! I probably won't start running with her until next week, but I'll at least be able to be back on track with walking miles this week.

So with my extra mile, that 105.45 miles!

Gratz on the new family friend! I hope in the future to adopt a canine companion for Finnegan, but that a ways off and AFTER we fence the yard in.

58 miles reaches Philadelphia,PA- MET 6/7/07
155 miles reaches NY City, NY
219 miles reaches Hardford, CT
381 miles reaches BOSTON, MA!

new total of 104.45 miles!
Thats less than 50 miles to NY! Wonder how close we can be by the 4th of July?

Hi all :)

Sorry havnt posted the distances for my beloved pooch and I but i kept track and it goes like this

Saturday - 4 miles
Sunday - 4 miles
Monday - 1 mile
Tuesday - 1 mile

So another 10 miles to add on :cheers2:

So thats us at 115.45 miles now!!!:hurray: We are def gonna get there by July 4th!

I am such a sucker for rescue dogs. Stubby is a wonderful addition to my family, he fits wonderfully with my other dog, Delaware. Of course we have to work out the whole jealousy issue with attention, but it will come.

My mother and I walked our small pack last night... and got caught in the rain. When we were nearly halfway through. There was no sense in turning back so we just braved it and looked like drowned rats by the time we got home.

Today before my mother had to go to work, we both grabbed a dog and walked together our normal route. Later in the evening I was brave and took both dogs myself and took another route.

In the two days, I have walked 5.5 miles with my wonderful dogs.

115.45 + 5.5 = 120.95 MILES

I believe we can make the NY distance by July 4th. It's in about 10 days. If I do not deviate from my schedule, 20 miles can easily be gained. The route my mother and I take religiously is 2 miles and we go every day.

Awesome Job guys!

Hey Word, how about a pic of the new addition?

It's in the high 80's today, but you have inspired me to talk Finnegan tonight!

Hey guys :)

Had a little walk today....my puglet is veryyy lazy today and refused to walk after abt a mile!! I had to CARRY him back to the house cos he refused to move! I have been walking him loads tho:svengo: Stubborn little man!

Thought i would posta pic of my (lazy) gorgeous boy!

New total 121.95 miles

Tink- How cute! Hey maybe him copping out is part of a secret plan of his to help you work on your strngth training too, by carrying him? LOL

Was a little warm, but figured I better get it done while I was motivated, and took Finnegan for a walk as soon as I got home from work.

New total 121.95 miles

We did 1.75 miles so our new total is 123.7 miles!

I was staying at my folks house while they were out of town the last few days. There's no good place to walk out there so I only took Kali out for short romps through the woods right near their house. So yesterday and today we did a mile. She really has recovered from the limp.

And Tink, be thankful that your lazy dog is a little pug! My lazy dog weighs 45 pounds and has threatened to make me carry her home a few times. I've put my foot down and made her walk, but she has gotten pretty close to being carried home!

So 2 more miles makes 125.7 miles!

Only managed 1.2 miles today with the lazy pug...had to carry him again cos he sat and REFUSED point blank to move. He even lay down and wouldnt look up! Cheeky little ****!!!!

So 1.2 miles added makes a new total of 126.9 miles

Will def do more tomorrow!

Well, when I got home from work, Kali was limping BAD! I think she was really close to a full recovery, but tearing around in the woods the past two days re-injured the leg. Sigh. So I'll still be taking it easy for awhile.

-Welcome Murr! You may be getting a dog, eh? Any ideas as to what breed? age? rescue?

-Tink: How about bringing a skateboard or wagon so you can pull him when he tuckers out? LOL

-madness: Aww... Sorry to hear about Kali, hope she feels better soon.

As for me, I'm gonna have to start walking Finnegan in the morning as the weather seems to be doing its typical summer thing: hot hot hot and then later afternoon thunderstorms . .puts a wrench in my walking the dog in the evenings.

Have a great weekend all!

Well, we have a bit of a different weather pattern here Yarmiah. It's hot hot hot and then in the afternoon it's hotter hotter hotter!

Kali seemed a whole lot better this morning and I just said that enough was enough. We went on our usual 3 mile walk. Only limped a bit in the beginning, but she seems to be doing fine. I can tell she is out of shape though!

So 3 miles for a new total of 129.9 miles!
