Cowboy's Diary

Well I have been trying to catch up on some diaries- guess I had better post in mine. Weight is good although I seem to be fatter than I was when I lost the orginal weight 5 years ago. Definitely need to up the toning. Boot camp will help with that. I have started running again too. Summer time is very busy for me as I live on a acreage so landscaping, grass cutting, etc. takes up a lot of my time.

I don't like to run in the heat so running in the Fall and Winter is always better for me. Feels good to be out running again and my distance didn't go down that much. I am doing a run on Saturday called the Insane Inflatable 5K. You basically run and climb on all these inflatable obstacles. Think a bouncy castle on steroids-lol. I have never done it but I think it a precursor to the Spartan or Tough Mudders runs they have ( but much cleaner). It should be fun and I am looking forward to it.

There is also a 10K night run up here that looks pretty cool. Everyone runs with headlamps on - we will see.

Funny to be fitting into small men's clothes again. To think I wore XL or XXL for 50 years of my life. I still find it surreal to go clothes shopping. Funny thing is I have as much problem find small clothes as I did finding XXL- weird.

Anyway, that is it for now. Keep fighting the fight.

Nice job on the running! Enjoy that cooler weather and send some down here will ya?

Hi, cowboy. I like the fact that you have returned to the forum, even though you are probably at or around your ideal weight. I think it's great for people to see that it can be done. You are not only offering support around the diaries but also showing that it is possible to achieve your aims. You know that it doesn't come easy, but is well worth the effort. It's nice having you around. Cheers, Cate.

Thanks Cate. Trying to give back a little. I like to see people achieve their goals and if I can offer an encouraging word then that is what I am going to do. You are doing the exact same thing so everything you said to me--- right back at you-lol.

Hi Katy:

I think that is key to losing and maintaining your weight. You have to be active and actually really like it. Otherwise slip ups happen and then you have to lose the same weight all over again. Thanks for stopping by my diary!

Good luck at the race, try to get some footage!

Thanks, LJ.I didn't get footage but the run was a blast. I run 5K all the time but adding the stops to go through one of their inflatables got the old heart rate up. A lot of climbing and sliding down. Weather was wet so you can imagine things were a little slippery- that being said the slides were turned into water slides basically so we all got really wet and dirty. The event isn't timed and there were lots of families there so the kids were plentiful and they were having a ball.

A little background. I have run with a lady for a few years now. Her husband and my wife don't really run. My wife will run occasionally but like yoga and boot camp better. So this lady and I run a couple of times a week. We run about the same speed and get along very well. We have become really good friends. She is the one that keeps pushing me to try these different runs. She and I have done a few 1/2 marathons, 10Ks, 5Ks, the city chase - which is like the Amazing Race and now this inflatable run. Next thing she want us to do is a Spartan Run or the Tough Mudder. This is the insane inflatable run on steroids if you don't know what these runs are. I keep telling her- I am old- I am not supposed to do these things to my body-lol. Sounds like I am going to be doing next year ( hangs head). Oh well, time to get to boot camp and try to build a little muscle so I can climb up a 20 foot wall.

Keep fighting the fight!

It's great that you spur one another on. You are not old btw!
Never give up, that's for sure :D

Thanks, Cate. It does help to have someone else pushing you , even if it is out of my comfort zone. I sure feel old some days- let me tell you-lol. I don't think I could give up even if I wanted to- with my wife and running buddy pushing me.

Well I have come down with a bad cold. Makes it pretty hard to run when you can't breathe sitting still. So running is off the table this week but I am still doing boot camp so exercise will be good. Food choices have been good too. I eat a lot of veggies- I mean a LOT. When I was heavy I craved sweets. I loved cake, cookies etc. If it was called dessert then I ate it. Now I have that same craving for cucumbers, tomatoes- if it is called vegetables I will eat them. It is kind of surreal to see how my tastes have changed.

How did they change you ask-lol? Well I just finally made up my mind that enough was enough. The longer that I keep away from cake and cookies and other delicious goodies the less I craved them. I have always been an all or nothing eater so I had to use this to my advantage but cutting these things out completely to begin with. Eventually the cravings went away. I still have a piece of cake or a cookie but I can stop at one. I never, ever thought that was possible but it is. Weird when I think back. It is possible to do this, everyone. YOU all can do it. Believe me if I can do it - then you can do it!!

Keep fighting the fight! The end result is worth it!

:iagree: You really can change your habits if you set your mind to do it. Cravings do go away. I steer well clear of cakes etc & love vegetables. I couldn't imagine not having them every day. Hope your cold vanishes soon cowboy!

I think my taste buds are getting more sensitive.
I used to love those bold favors of spicy chips but now those are way too over seasoned for me I like more subtle Flavors now...lately I am on a bell pepper and fresh mushroom kick...I add them to many dishes

I've been fantasizing about the Perfect Salad lately. Something salty/vinegary and fresh. Maybe I'll grab some lettuce on the way home tonight.
