Great to hear your running is coming along and that the weight is coming down. Bacon and chicken wings with running sounds miserable to me. Of course my diet is comprised mainly of complex carbohydrates and zero meat. It works for me and yours is working for you. There is more than one way to skin a cat and my way is peel a banana instead. Enjoy your hills. You know you love them!

Not allowing carrots on a diet seems counter intuitive but I wouldn't argue with whatever's working. Hills are tough, I hate them outside but I love them on a treadmill. I've never committed to a session of hill repeats, though, even though I keep saying I need to. They are speed work in disguise, you'll fly through that 10k!!

Hi Oaks,

Thanks. I know exactly what you mean. This diet is definitely counter intuitive that is the struggle I am having. I know what works for me. This works but it is so weird that stuff you can have and can't have. Even the vegetables- if they are root vegetables then they are usually high in carbs. So strange for me to eat chicken wings and leave the carrots behind. I used to just eat the carrots and celery and let someone else eat the wings-lol.

There is nothing like hills outside- they really are tough but they work. Hills are like speed work on an incline-lol.

I disagree. There is A LOT like it. It's called torture. Psychotic torture.

Hi Chef,

You got that right-lol. No one I know LIKES them but they all do them. They help, especially if the run you are in has a lot of hills. Helps in the recovery at the top. Sometimes getting a needle in they eye would be more pleasant. In fact I know it is-haha

Hi Q,

Thanks. I know what you mean. I am almost a vegetarian normally so all this meat is driving me crazy. I eat very cleanly normally. To tell you the truth I hadn't had wings and/or bacon for probably 4 years. They used to be a favorite for me so giving them up was hard. Maybe that is why I went on this diet to eat the wings-haha. No, once my wife is done with her weight loss journey I am going back to the way I ate before. Although I have to admit that I don't feel at all bloated on this diet. I guess the carbs do that to you if you eat too many.

Well I have come to a realization that I have to add something besides running to my exercise regime. I am not a great swimmer but I may do that occasionally. Cross fit looks like it could hurt me big time-lol - after all I am just about 55 years old. That being said I think for the best mix between muscle building and cardio I will give it a go. I am hoping there is cross fit for dummies at some of the gyms. I am in a City Chase ( like the Amazing Race) here in the city in June and I think it will need me to add some muscle mass and work on other aspects of my fitness. Has anyone out there tried Cross Fit? Do you like it? Any pointers besides don't puke the first day-lol?

Tried a rowing machine? Not terribly exciting, but there're bunch of different workouts ranging from low grade cardio to intense strength/heart conditioning.

Puking is irrelevant, just make sure you don't hurt your joints and ligaments doing unaccustomed, high-speed exercises which require much more coordination than training on machines. And have fun!

I've never tried Cross Fit but I think they do have a few introductory classes you have to go to before you're introduced to the big boy classes. My guess is you'd learn then how to go about easing into the exercises so that you don't puke on day one, haha.

Cross-Fit for Dummies.

Like, THIS dummy?...

LJ- I have tried a rowing machine- actually used it a long time ago to lose a bunch of weight. I may have to give it another shot as it is a good workout.

La Maria- I hear youl. I am very careful at my more advanced age (lol) to take things slow and easy to begin with.

Oaks- Introductory sounds safe and I like safe at least when I start out. I understand the workouts can be brutal but they work.

Chef- LMAO- I seen guys like this at the gym. No matter how many muscles you have - a person can still look like a complete idiot.

LJ- I have also seen this at the gym-lol. We all have to start somewhere I guess.

It was a good weekend eating wise for me. I am still losing weight and running. Longer slower run planned for tonight. I always like this run as we can chat as we are going along.

Me too when I used to go. I have no issue with that kind of guy, to be honest, as long as he's putting the damn weights back when he's done. It did kind of remind me of the pack of feral teenage boys every gym seems to attract that all do the same exercise together and poorly.

Good job on a good weekend!

Adding things and changing things up is important. If you do a certain activity for while, your body gets really efficient at it and you don't get as much out of it as when you started. Even taking one running day a week and doing something else can make a big difference.

*WooHoo!* :seeya: You're off ta a great start!

The City Chase sounds fun! :)

Well I have been MIA for the last couple of weeks. I got laid off at work and I have been busy trying to find another job. This has never happened to me before. The economy here in Alberta is hurting big time. Sucks but there is nothing I can do about the lay off except do what I am doing. I am sure that being 55 years old is not helping either.

That being said if something like this had happened before I would be sitting in a refuse pile of pizza boxes and take-out containers, weeping uncontrollably - LOL. Instead I am using this free time to improve my swimming. I can swim but have always wanted to do a triathlon but my swimming sucks. So I hit the gym and the pool in the morning and do my normal runs at night.

My eating has actually been really good. I am not tempted at all. My wife and I are still losing weight. So things in the grand scheme of life is still good.

Thanks, LJ. That is one of my pet peeves too - people that never clean up after themselves at the gym. There should be a trap door in the floor of the gym and if you don't put your weights away- trap door opens up and shoots you out into the parking lot

Hi Cory,

I hear you. I used to do the same thing all the time but realized pretty quickly that can lead to injury and boredom. I have been looking at bootcamp classes offered at the local gym. I might start with those and then give crossfit a try. I will see. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Stacy. I am trying but it is funny how life can throw you curve balls sometimes
