You struck my funny bone today - cracking up at the visual I have of long socks and shorts (even though I have no idea what you look like) - don't get me wrong - I'd still support ya. lol

Then - 120 lbs too weak to lift your arm to eat. lol - I know you'll work through it....feel free to filter some of the excess cals burned my way - I could use some extra help getting that scale number down.

Happy you have found a running partner...at least for the clinic.

Hi Jennifer,

Yeah, it struck me as funny too. They seem to think it was pretty normal-lol. I know I am not that far from black socks and sandals(haha) but high socks and shorts is a little too crazy even for me. So today I am going to be running and boot camp and I will burn a lot of calories so I am sending some free calories your way - so you can eat that piece of cake if you want. No, don't eat the cake-LOL. I did find another guy in the clinic that runs about the same speed as me so we ran together on Tuesday,so that is good. You will get the scale number down- I know you will. Thanks for stopping by.

Cowboy, have you got piccs up anywhere?

Also i have to say i've never known anyone who can eat a shit load of fatty and junk food and be skinny. My sister eats well. She doesn't over eat but she likes butter. I think its a myth that there are people who can eat as much as they want and stay slim. Just as i think people who are overweight eat a lot. Metabolism disorders are not that common.

Still working up the nerve for pictures-lol. I will post some though... eventually. Yeah but there are those people that seem to eat badly or eat large quantities all the time and they are skinny. I don't know how they do it. It used to be if I smelled a cake baking I would gain 3 pounds-lol. I know what you mean about the misconceptions though. Really for my size I never really ate that bad. I wasn't a fan of fast food and don't like greasy stuff but my achilles heel was baked stuff. I didn't gorge on it but considering I ate pretty clean it sure added the weight to my frame. Plus I didn't exercise before so I did have that against me. I don't smoke or drink and was very healthy medically. It is amazing what cake can do-lol. Thanks for stopping by.

Good Thursday Morning,

Today is BIG exercise day, I will do a 6K tempo run and then go right into boot camp. I did add my famous Egg McMuffin ( well not MY famous - you know what I mean) with no cheese or butter to breakfast. I am going to need the extra protein as talking to my wife she said boot camp was brutal this week- she goes on Tuesday and Thursdays. Lot of surrenders and push ups etc.

I ate about 1600 calories yesterday and am still having a hard time adding calories although that is about 200 more than I usually eat. This is going to be tough for me to work up to 3000. I may just have to lose more weight before I get the calorie count there-lol. Look at me complaining about losing more weight and having to eat too much- imagine that??

I really need to concentrate on toning. This new clinic has messed up my other training schedule so I am not sure what to do where and where to fit things in. I will figure it out though- I need to fit in one more (at least) weight training day.

That is it for today, I hope everyone has a Great Thursday!! One more day until the weekend.

Good Friday Morning,

Well today started out badly- not horrible but badly. Why can't they understand Egg McMuffin - no cheese, no butter-LOL? So I had to eat it with both. Doesn't taste very good like that anymore. Man, I am getting old and crotchety-LOL.

Yesterday was a good exercise day. 6k run and 1 hour boot camp right after. I made it though even though boot camp was brutally hard. The problem though was eating again. I ate just under 1400 calories. Not nearly enough but I didn't feel light headed or anything. In fact I felt pretty strong. So that is more bad news but the good news is that I have veins in my arms-lol. That is right I can see the veins in my arms now- it is kind of gross but at least they are there. I am still feeling good and lean- no gaining weight for this guy.

Talked to my boot camp instructors and they gave me a name of a nutritionist in the city. I may go and see her and get some ideas about how to boost the calories. As most of you long time dieters know we probably know more about food and calories and proteins, carbs, and fats than most doctors-lol but we just don't implement them into our diets. The initial fee is about $150 so quite expensive but may be worth it in the long run. I am going to have to think about this.

That is it for today. Have a Great Friday and a Great Weekend!!

Cowboy - Sorry about the rough start to your day. You are not getting old and crotchety - you just know what you want and how you want it. Lesson learned - right? The next time your order is not made to your specs - ask them to make it correctly.

I've been thinking about your reply to fourtyfour from yesterday - as I can really relate. I'm not a big fan of fast food (the typical stuff anyway - I can do Subway everyday). I'm not a smoker or drinker (aside from a couple times a year that I enjoy drinking out with friends). My bloodwork is usually within the normal range (once my glucose was nearing the high side). I truly feel fortunate that my weight has not seriously impacted my overall health (yet). Reading your posts really motivate me to keep on with my journey - as I can relate with alot of what you write.

Like you, I can usually eat the same thing day in/day out. Did/do you have any issues with your wife/family wanting to go out to eat or do they leave you to fix your own meals? I'm trying to figure out how to keep my hubby happy (as he likes to eat out a couple times a week) - and stick true to what I want to eat. I actually prefer eating at home most times as I enjoy the food I make and I'm certain it is more nutritious.

Well maybe we could help you add more calories and then you could save the money for the nutritionist.

But you should show us what you eat. Right off the top without seeing it, i could suggest that eating some nuts could be good for you they are high in calories. If you can eat dessert without causing a binge, you could worse than start making some at home - i mean good things like apple crumble eaten with yoghurt, or baked custard.

Or you could have some cheese at the end of your meal instead. You know that's what the french do. This is how they eat.

first course - salad with some bread
Second course - small serve of meat and some vegetables - these are not huge servings either by the way.
last course - cheese or fruit yoghurt

Hi Running Man! :D I am glad to see you are still being so disciplined. I think the fee for the nutritionist would be money well spent. Before you go, it might be a good idea to write down specific questions you want answered, such as "what foods are best BEFORE a run as well as what foods are best AFTER a run?" Those types of questions and any other questions you want answered.

Hi Jennifer,

It sounds like you are very much like me-lol. Even at 320 pounds , my heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc were normal or below normal. No health issues. What worried me was as I got older if they would affect me then. Hence the change in lifestyle. Keep on with the journey- it is worth it - believe me.

If my wife/ family goes out for dinner- I am in the seat beside them-LOL. Eating out is not that hard especially if you know where you are going before you leave. Lot of restaurants post their nutritional contents on line. If they don't - I have to use my own knowledge and order something that I figure is going to suit my diet. Dressings on the side- no sauces etc. Most restaurants will custom order something on the menu for you- even McDonalds ( Egg McMuffin - no cheese or butter-lol). I learned you have to enjoy yourself as well and going out to eat with the family didn't change when I started dieting- just what I ordered did. Don't stop living just because you are dieting. I just order smarter now. Keep up the good work!

Hi Forty Four,

Funny thing is I am a bit of a nutritional expert already-lol. Comes from 40 years of dieting. I know what to do and what to eat - it is the doing of it I have the problem with -lol. I know I have to eat more and I know what to eat but it is a mental game as I think I will gain weight if I eat too much. It is adjusting those lines in my head that is what I am having the problem with. How much do I eat before I gain weight? If I eat too much then I will be fat again. You know those age old questions-lol. I have been adding greek yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts etc but I am trying to establish the line between maintenance and gaining weightenance ( lol). I will figure it out- I think. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Derrick,

I know I have to be disciplined- I don't want to go back to the way I was - you know? I have worked too hard to finally get within a normal weight range and I don't want to be fat again. I am thinking about the nutritionist. I got a name from my boot camp trainers and this nutritionist works with our professional football team up here so she probably knows her stuff. Thanks for the tip about writing specific questions down- I was just going to go and see her an see what she had to say-lol. I am tracking my food through my fitness pal so I have those logs that I can show her so she can see exactly what I have been and am eating. Thanks for stopping by!

Good Monday Morning,

This weekend went okay. I never got in my Saturday run but I did a nice 9K run on Sunday. Saturday's eating wasn't so good though. Breakfast and Lunch were fine but went to a dinner theatre buffet on Saturday night. Didn't have anything to bad- I am not bingeing-lol I did treat myself to a couple of cookies and a mini pecan tart ( my favorite-lol). I still felt guilty though- I know I shouldn't - I have to learn to eat normally sometime but it is still bugs me. I never gained an ounce but I feel like one pecan tart and a cookie is leading me back to my old ways. I have to clear that out of my head. I have to learn that one mini pecan tart is not going to kill me or make me fat again- a dozen of them will though-lol. I think I just am testing the waters of getting back to a normal way of eating again but it is the mental thing that I am having a hard time with. The tart did make me feel sick-lol but it was good going down and I have to learn to let the guilt go. That is the problem with eating the same thing all the time if you eat something else - even if it is healthy - I feel guilty - WEIRD!!

I maintained my weight this week. Today and yesterday I ate normally at least normally to me. The run felt good. Today I am going to do a 6K tempo run.

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Monday!!

Good Tuesday Morning,

Yesterday went well again. Eating was around 1600 calories- added 200 more calories yesterday and will try to keep that level at least for a couple more days. Didn't get my run in yesterday- had to stay late at work- damn it-lol.

Running clinic is tonight. We are scheduled for a 4K tempo run along with talking about running clothes. It will be nice when the tempo runs get up there a little - I just get warmed up on a 4K run-lol. Oh well, I will persevere.

Since it is getting warmer here I noticed that running in the heat is completely different than running in the cold. No kidding- I am such an idiot sometimes-lol. Remember I started running late Sept last year so i have never really run in the heat. So I forget my water all the time. I have to buy some kind of belt so I can carry water with me but I don't really need it on a 4K run- just get started and then we are finished. I had better get something though because the longer distances are coming.

I am really looking forward to my 1/2 marathon in August. It should be fun- I hope-lol?

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Tuesday!!

Have a great day Cowboy! I never take water to the gym or anything in the winter but as soon as the air-con breaks in there you realise you need it pretty soon!!! Hope you find a belt or something soon!

Thanks, Sunflower!! I think I will need something especially on some of the long runs we are going to be doing. Thanks for stopping by

Good Wednesday Morning,

Yesterday's clinic was interesting. We learned about clothing and what to buy. I didn't realize at this distance ( 21.1K) how much chafing occurs-lol. I have to buy some kind of hydration belt. It was warm here 21C and I didn't have any water- clinic instructor got after me-lol. I told her I didn't know what to buy but I would have it next run.

I learned something last night- apparently I am the goal of a few of the runners in the clinic-LOL. Imagine me - the goal. Apparently I run the fastest so the instructor told me to go on ahead as she knows I run faster than her and so I did. All of a sudden one of the other runners ( about a 19 or 20 year old girl) was running beside me-lol. She said "Hi" and that it was her goal to run with me tonight-lol. She ran with me for about 1.5 K and then we came to a bit of a hill and she said she would have to walk it. I didn't see her again until the end-LOL. I never thought of myself as a runner - still don't really- but apparently from what others tell me - I am pretty good at this-LOL. Who would have thought- a former 320 pound guy- A RUNNER - and at almost 50-unbelievable?

Eating was good yesterday but a little low. About 1400 calories but I have already bumped that up this morning.

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Wednesday!!

That's impressive cowboy.

Out of curiosity what is your maintenance calories now?

(presuming you are on maintenance - but i can't remember)

Thanks. I have been on maintenance for a week now. I should be eating around 2000 calories but depending on the exercise planned for that day - it can go up to around 3000. I know I am not eating enough but I have been slowly adding calories over the last week- up to around 1600 calories/day - yesterday was an abnormality-lol. My plan is to add about 200 calories a week until I hit maintenance- didn't want to add them too quickly- besides I can't eat that much anymore.

Cowboy - the running clinic must make you feel really good about yourself. Others are setting their goals to be able to run with you for the night! Pretty awesome.....you have obviously worked hard and it is showing.

Thanks for sharing about going out to dinner - appreciate the feedback.

It is definitely makes me feel better about myself. When you run - unless you are in a race every week you don't really know how you are doing in relation to other runners. I know I have a long way to go but it is nice when the young people have to try and keep up-LOL.

Good Thursday Morning!!

Didn't get my 3K tempo run in yesterday, I have been having a weird pain in my left tricep- like someone sticking a hot iron into the muscle. I had something like that a while ago and it ended up being my back - weird. Anyway, I took some ibuprofen and took it easy last night. Seems to be a little better this morning.

Today is boot camp day. I have to work later at work so I won't be able to run before boot camp. Oh well. With my tricep giving me problem- I may not be able to do boot camp either. I hate having to deal with injuries. I know some injuries you can work through but I still hate it when it interrupts my training. I know this isn't a serious injury like some others have, but it is still a road block to my goal- SUCKS!!

Eating was good yesterday. Watermelon is back in season so I am stoked about that- it is my favorite. Last year I ate about 15 of them over the course of the Summer by myself-LOL. Lucky they are relatively good for me.

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Thursday!!
