How is your body holding up? Mine, not so good. :banghead:

Nagging injuries make me feel old.

Hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Easter of course. :)

Cowboy - excited that you are going to start training on Tuesday. Aim for a pace that is comfortable to you. Your goal is to finish - right? I am always in awe of the people that finish so quickly - I don't even think I could bike it that fast. lol

Good luck - can't wait to read the Tuesday update.

Hi Cowboy,

Happy Easter!

I'm really glad to hear that you are feeling better now that you've increased your protein. Are you still feeling more energized today? That was a really great compliment to hear from your boot camp trainers! Great job at resisting temptations, I need some of your willpower, I'll be fine when it comes to chocolate, I live alone and refuse to buy a single one because I'm not the type who can have just one or just a taste of anything, I need a whole bag/box whatever so I'm not going to play with temptation and chocolate.

Have an amazing Easter weekend!! :seeya:

Thanks Janvier. I hope you had a great Easter. I have been feeling better lately with the increase in protein. I think that was the problem. I know what you mean about the chocolate- I am not really a chocolate person but once in a while I get eating it and can't stop. Mini eggs are my weakness- YUM!! If I lived alone I wouldn't buy them either- out of sight- out of mind-lol. Thanks for stopping by!!

I hope you had a great Easter as well. I know what you mean. I have been having this problem with one side of my chest. It burns when I run. Could be the man boobs-LOL. I bought a compression shirt hoping that it would help. I haven't tried it but I hope to tonight. Be careful of the injuries - some can be powered through and some you have to take a rest. It is knowing the difference that can be the problem. So far my body is holding up and I hope that stays the same with the increase in running distance. I hope!! I hope-lol!!

You will totally kick ass when you do that half marathon! Train smart now, kick ass later.

The dude that went 2:03.xx is an alien for sure. I bet he weighs 125 pounds. Running is becoming a flawed sport. They need weight classes just like fighting, wrestling, etc. The age classes need to be expanded though. Instead of 30 to 34, 35 to 39, etc., they need 30 to 39, with weight classes every 30 pounds or something. Just a thought.

Thanks Derrick. Yeah I know what you mean about it being flawed. The guy that ran it couldn't have been anymore than about 100 pounds if that. They definitely need to have weight classes and age classes.

Good Tuesday Morning,

I hope everyone had a Great Easter weekend. I had a good weekend. Got my 10K run in on Easter Sunday and my other workouts in as well. This week is a new training schedule as I am headed to my running clinic tonight- it should be interesting. The only problem is that I think I am already training at about week 7 of the schedule as I have continued my 10K training schedule up until this point. I am hoping the trainers for this clinic allow me to continue at week 7 otherwise I will keep doing what I am doing and join them in 8 weeks-lol. I was supposed to go to boot camp tonight but have to switch that to Thursday nights now- feels funny not having to go to boot camp - been doing Tuesday night for about a year now. Oh well, I guess it is good to step out of your training box-lol.

Tried something this weekend that scared tha crap out of me. No, it wasn't skydiving-lol. I started adding some more food to my plate. SCARRRYYYY!! It bothered the hell out of me - weird!! My wife kept saying , you aren't having more are you?? She was kidding because she knows it bothers me but I have to eat more. She calls me the 'stick man' all the time-lol. Now I didn't add like 4000 calories or anything- but I did eat at maintenance which for me was frightening-lol. I felt way too full as well. I still lost my one pound this week even with Easter factored in there. The food I added was mostly protein - a little more turkey and some more veggies- nothing too serious. So I am now 2 pounds from goal. So if things go according to plan I should be at goal in two weeks- hopefully. I don't know what I am going to do. Not only do I have to rework my food but I am training for a 1/2 marathon as well. My boot camp instructors suggested I see a nutritionist to see about figuring out a food strategy that will incorporate the training and maintenance together. I am thinking about that for now. My clinic instructors may have some idea as well.

Sorry, I haven't been posting this weekend, I have a law student at home studying for exams so he has been on the computer all weekend. I think he has a couple of more exams and then he is done for this year.

That is it for today. Sorry for the long post. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday!!

I'm curious to see how your maintenance phase goes - I feel like I'm struggling with that right now. I've been averaging around 135 since last November (138 on Mondays after bad weekends, and 133 on Fridays after behaving all week) but I feel like I have to constantly be vigilent. I dunno - I guess I was hoping that maintenance would be easier than losing. But so far it hasn't been. Everything I read tells me that maintenance for me should be between 1800 and 2300 calories a day, depending on if I get all my scheduled exercise in or not. But I've been averaging around 1500 calories a day. When I go down to 1200 - I start losing again, when I go up much past 1800 I start gaining. So it really makes me wonder how accurate all these calorie calculators are?

I'm not sure if the fact that the calories over the 1500 that I normally eat tend to be more junk or treats instead of nutritious choices matters? I have a few set meals that I alternate because I know exactly how many calories I'm getting and don't have to track so closely - but I'm finding it hard to add in foods to get a few extra calories - maybe I should do what you are doing and still eat the same stuff - but increase my portions slightly? That may work better than trying to find something else to eat in addition to my 'normal' stuff.

Have a great week!

To be honest I think maintenance is harder. At least if you watch what you eat you see the results on the scale. With maintenance it is about what you don't see on the scale- you want to see the same number come up-lol. I am heading to unchartered waters here as I have never been at my goal before so I don't know how to eat at maintenance but just try me on eating to lose weight-LOL. I think the calorie counters are a guide and nothing more. The thing to do is see how you feel and look rather than if the calorie counter tells you that your calories are too high or low. I know for me that I don't include everything in the calorie counter as it would take me 4 hours to fill it in each day- Oh, I added a spray of Pam- forgot that -LOL. So I use it for a general guide and then see if I lose or maintain- at least that is how I am doing it now. Although I still have 2 pounds till goal- lol. Maybe when you use the calorie counter is telling you that you ate 1200 it is really 1500 and when it tells you you ate 1800 it is really 2100 - I don't know what to do honestly. Maybe we should be maintenance buddies and we can bounce ideas off of one another and that way we can both try things and find something that works?? What do you think?

Good Wednesday Morning,

Well started the 1/2 marathon clinic yesterday. They always start slow- so people that don't run all the time can be part of the clinic as well. As it was we had a 1/2 hour meet and greet to go over the basics then we did a 3K temp run. When we were finished the instructor said that this was the fastest 3K temp initial run she had done- we did it in 19 1/2 minutes. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I usually run 5K in 21 or 22 minutes-lol. I realize we have to start slow as there is all levels of runners but I don't want to hold up my own training either. I guess my boot camp instructors were right when they told me I should be starting at week 10 of the 1/2 marathon training schedule-haha. I think it will be frustrating for the first little while but the instuctors and the people in the clinic seem really nice. We are doing hill training tonight so I will see how that goes. So just for an overview this is what my schedule will look like - Tuesday - classroom and tempo run ( this is always the shortest run of the week) Wednesday - hill training, and Sunday is Long slow run day. I will do my normal training in between these days so I can run farther on those days. I still have bootcamp on Thursday nights and I will run 6K before the class. I will figure it out - I hope-lol.

Eating was good yesterday as normal. I ate a little more about 1600 calories as I knew I was starting the clinic and didn't know what to expect. Nothing out the ordinary just a little more protein. I have to buy a water bottle belt of some kind for this clinic- the long runs are going to require it. Anyone out there know what is better- the 4 little bottle belt or the one that has a larger water bottle that is angled across your back? I am not sure but I will need to pick up one of them.

So the Marathon and 1/2 Marathon clinic kind of run together - well for the Tuesday classroom part anyway. There are about 9 or 10 in our clinic and about 5 in the Marathon one. Hearing the instructor talk about the marathon clinic and the things he had planned now I am wondering if I am in the wrong clinic. I just didn't know if I could go from 10K to Marathon Man-LOL in one step. I have emailed my current instructor at the clinic to find out. Who knows maybe I will run an OMG - MARATHON- instead - LOL. I am waiting to hear back from her first.

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Wednesday!!

All of the runners I've seen use the 4 bottle belt. I think it is supposed to make you feel more balanced as opposed to having all of the weight sloshing around on one side of your body.

Hi Cowboy,

I just wrote a reply on your diary and my internet at work died and didn't save it !! :cuss:

Basically I was saying that I was really pleased to see that you found your way out of your funk and that you are doing great! You are already at the top of your class although you are keeping that to yourself lol, your eating is great as always and you are TWO pounds away from your goal weight!! You are on such a roll it's incredible!! I think it's super cute that your wife calls you stick man, that must feel so good lol. The full marathon sounds like a wonderful goal and I know that you can totally do it! I have faith in you big time!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!! :waving:

Cowboy - thanks for sharing about the 1/2 marathon clinic - and glad to see you write what I've believed - you CAN run a marathon! I think it is fantastic that your current goal is the 1/2 marathon - we'll be behind you cheering - and if you decide the full marathon is the one for you (at any time), we'll be cheering for you then too.

1,600 calories seems so low considering all the working out you do - but you know your body best.

Thanks!! I will look at those when I go shopping.

I agree, men shouldn't eat under 1800 cals per day; and with your running routine I think you should be somewhere around 2200 - 2400 / day. When you are overweight, food seems like the enemy. In other addictions, the toxin is completely removed from one's life (alcohol, drugs, etc...), but with overeating the person still has to face that trigger (food) everyday.

I know how hard you've worked to lose the weight, but you can't be scared to eat. You are working damned hard, you still weigh yourself regularly, and there is no way you will gain this weight back!

LOL- don't you hate when that happens. I have done exactly the same thing. I don't think I am going to do the marathon- I think I can run the distance but like my clinic instructor told me last night- Do you just want to finish a marathon or do you want to have a stellar 1/2 marathon? I think I want to have a stellar 1/2-lol so I am staying where I am. Besides I was looking at the training schedule for the marathon and it takes a lot of time- some runs go 4-5 hours on weekends. I don't think I can put that kind of time in - especially in the Summer. I live on an acreage and have a lot of yard work to do-lol. So I am going to run the 1/2 marathon and maybe I will train for the marathon in the Winter. That sounds like fun, running 26.2 miles in -30 - fun, fun, fun!!

Good Thursday Morning,

Ate a little more yesterday - about 1600 calories but it was more good food - not junk-lol. I had my second Tempo run yesterday. I think I was bad-lol. I set the pace- the instructor told me to slow down-LOL. She was huffing and puffing beside me. I really don't think I am that good of a runner but I guess - according to her- I am pretty good. She asked me when I started running and I told her last Sept- she didn't believe me-haha. I talked to her about switching to the marathon clinic as I don't feel challenged yet in this one. She told me that was no problem but she did ask me a couple of good questions. She asked me if I wanted to just run a marathon to say I had run one or did I want to run a stellar 1/2 marathon. She also asked me if I knew the time committment for the training . She told me on the long run days I could be running for 4-5 hours. She said while she was huffing and puffing beside me-lol that judging from the running I was doing then that I definitely could run the distance but I had to commit and not miss a run especially later in the clinic.

I decided I wanted to run a stellar 1/2 marathon-LOL. I want to place in the top 1/3 or so if I can. I also don't have the time to run 4-5 hours on Sundays as I live on an acreage and Summer is the busy time for me - grass cutting, flower beds, new deck etc. So I am staying with the 1/2 marathon and will continue MY training on the opposite days to the clinic training days until they catch up to me. I am enjoying the clinic and may take the marathon one in the Winter. I think I am CRAZY sometimes. If I train all Winter for the marathon I will then run the race in the early Spring.

That is it for today. Have a Great Thursday!!
