Couch to 5K Club

I'm still on week 1 too. I still have a hard time getting through the workout w/o stopping. So I think I'll stay here and keep pushing a little more each time.

I did week 3 day 1 today, and I was pretty surprised with myself. I didn't have to slow down my jogging pace and increased my walking pace a little bit.

I also got fitted for some running shoes and they should be here tomorrow, so I'm very excited. :)

I did this a while ago but fell off the wagon last spring. I've been jogging on my own for a couple of weeks, but today I officially did W1D1. It's good to be back :)

Yay, week 1 finished. We'll see how hard I find week 2 for whether or not I'll move on or stay one more week with week 1.

i finished week 4 day 1 today, and went ahead and signed up for my first 5k on 5/9/09, which is about a month after i should finish with the program.

i'm getting pretty hooked :p

W2D1, not gonna lie, I found it really difficult, but I ran every interval in full. Hopefully I'll be able to tell a difference on day 3.

Great job bnm, I plan to do a 5k on 4/11/09 which is about a week shy of completing the program. I'm doing it with friends though and I don't think any of us expect us to be able to run the entire thing without a break. I just want to finish it close to or possibly under 30min.

I haven't seen this thread before!

Just want to let you all know that this goal is certainly within reach. When I first started taking running seriously I took a look at all the couch to 5k guides and used them to start training. Now my short runs are at least three miles, it took some time but it really is worth it to continue on with this goal and keep running once you reach it.

Good luck everyone!

Well, I hit a mini plateau in my weight loss so I finally started this program today after procrastinating for a couple of weeks. I kept making excuses. "I have a headache, can't go today", "I really want to make this a monday, wednesday, friday workout, so I'll start next week", "Too tired", etc. No more excuses.

Week 1 isn't so bad. My throat burned a bit during the last 3 intervals. We'll see if it gets any better towards the end of the first week. I was doing 3.5mph brisk walking and 6.0mph jogging with the last interval at 6.5mph to finish strong.

W1D1 - 2.0 miles

Hey all, I only just noticed this thread...I start week 5 next week and although I have found all the other weeks pretty achievable I am dreading the 20 min run on day three....but I am loving the programme...what does everyone else do on the days in between? I do my circuit on the days in between anything between 30min-1hr (circuit includes stair running, skipping, swiss ball, resistance band, elliptical, bike, stepper, pilates...or a selection of those things) I know the programme says to have a rest day, but I feel to guilty if I do...hee hee

I will be starting once the weather warms up. Already got a podcast on my brand new Mp3 player (specifically bought for Couch 2 5K), just waiting for it not to be -25 celcius!
A bit too cold, even for me!

Just finished W3D1! It's strange because I found it easier than week 2. My miles are getting a bit faster, hovering around 13min which is much better than 2weeks ago.

I can't rest either, if not I may not go back to the gym for days. Generally, on days of the program, I run whatever day I'm on, do weights for 30min afterwards and then run week 1 trying to build up my speed. I enjoy doing this because I can see just how much I've improved. 1min of running is a cakewalk. :)

Days "off" I do 30min on this machine my gym has called the Octane (kind of a cross between an elliptical and nordic track), 15min on the stair climber, and then I'll go walk on the track for 2 miles or 30min, whichever comes first.

Hi all! I was in this group many pages ago. I have officially signed up for a race in April. Althought I am not currently working on the C25K program I am running 3 x per week.

Last Friday I had a major break through and ran for 3 miles! It was an amazing feeling. I can't wait for my race day to get here so that I can rock a 5k in <32 minutes (my overall goal).

that's awesome DW

I'm on week 5 of 9, and have signed up for a 5k in May. I hope to finish in sub 35 minutes though. Running is great! :)

Week 1 complete!

I pushed myself really hard this week with day 3 being 4 intervals at 6.5mph, 3 at 7.0mph, and last one at 7.5mph.

I am not going to push myself this hard for the rest of the program. I just wanted to get an idea of where my fitness level is. I am probably going to stick with 6.0mph for the remainder of the program.

Total Distance - 6.1 miles

W2D1 complete. This day was a little tougher than I thought it would be. I got a side stitch during the last two intervals :ack2:. I think that I might not have drank enough water or stretched enough.

8.22 miles total.

Well week 5 down for me....jogged the 20mins a lot more easily than I thought I would...so fitness must be increasing...I am starting to enjoy running!

That's awesome LovelyLillie! Congrats

I ran 3 miles on Sunday and really hoped to do so without walking. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it the entire distance. I ran the first 1.5 miles, then walk / ran the second 1.5 miles. I finished in 42 minutes. My goal for the 5K is under 35 minutes, so I think this is a good starting point.

Something I learned from this - always eat before running. I woke up and went running around 9 am without eating first. I had no energy what-so-ever and could not even run as far as I did on my "short" day. Lesson learned :)

Maybe by next Sunday I will be able to do so without stopping!
