Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

It's nice that people wanted to give you treats on Friday, Cory. That shows what they think of you :)

I'm definitely thankful. It's actually been harder for me to lose weight lately because I have more friends than I did when I first moved here.

Today was very productive! I set up a to-do list with about 20 things on it and prioritized them as a 1, 2, or 3. 1 means I definitely wanted to get it done today, 2 were things I'd do if I had time but can happen during the week, 3 are things that are kind of cherries on top if I get through all the 1's and 2's. I got through all the 1's, but didn't get any farther. I wanted to make time to walk with my mom and go lift.

I decluttered, grocery shopped, meal prepped, cleaned my bathroom and kitchen, and took a bunch of stuff to the dump. Unfortunately, I am disappointed in how all of my meal prep turned out. My curry isn't balanced, my swiss steak has too much paprika in it, and I burnt my bacon. I can probably mellow the swiss steak with a dollop of sour cream, but there's no improving burnt bacon and I don't know about the curry. Usually I'm a decent cook, but this was just not my week.

Did good on food:

Breakfast: waffle and coffee, 770 calories
Lunch: peanut butter sandwich, 315 calories
Dinner: burrito bowl, 677 calories
Total: 1762 calories

At the gym I did deadlifts working up to 155 lbs, dumbbell rows, planks, ab/adductor machine, and banded leg curls. I also spent a LONG time doing some mobility work tonight. I really paid attention to how I was moving at the gym and realized the entire right side of my body is tight and knotted up. This is probably why my Achilles is giving me issues. Mobility work is like my sleep....I used to do a whole lot more of it. Time to reincorporate it into my daily routine.

Sounds like a very productive Sunday, Cory. Shame about the cooking, but the rest sounds really good :)

Great you realized where it came from and that it's something you can work on. Shame about the food though :(

That and the gym time sound great, you are doing well.

That sounds like my cooking, not that I'd know a balanced curry from an unbalanced one. I am sure most of your cooking is fine.

Okay... not a totally good effect, but what a terrific cause! :) Go, you, with a cheerful friendship circle.
Ah, life! about the cooking - or rather, pah, humbug! and sympathies, especially after our contemplation of food waste, and not wanting it. :( But when it's not one's cooking day (in my experience) it's just not one's cooking day. The rest of the food sounded good though - the good, honest peanut butter sandwich, the sparky, colourful burrito bowl... yum!

Cory, fyi... it looks like you are using a .png image from what might now be an expired link in your signature which this forum doesn't seem happy about. if you still have a copy of that picture, try opening it up in Paint and save it as a .jpg image. that might cure the problem.

I had no idea. I usually use the site on mobile and it doesn't show signatures.

Progress update! January 13th, I was back up to 254.4 lbs. I am 245.4 lbs today! 9 lbs over the last 5 weeks. I'll try to make some time for a longer update tonight and to catch up on you guys' threads.

Good for you! Nine pounds is no small thing, it shows you are doing something right!

It makes me happy to see you doing well. You know you were one of the first people to welcome me here, I have not forgotten that, your support is appreciated.

I'm back. Let me just say I went briefly crazy for the last month or so. :/

My Achilles tendon was getting worse so my aunt (nurse practitioner) told me I need to quit doing pretty much anything I was doing, including walking, because all of it was weight bearing. The only thing she ok'd was swimming and I don't have access to a public pool. It's feeling better now, but my gym closed last week because of the coronavirus. I'll be honest, my anxiety is not well controlled right now and that means my diet is not well controlled either. I don't think I've gained back everything I had lost from January to February, but I probably gained back some. Good news is, I've ordered some kettlebells and I have some bands. I'm going to do what I can from home until things settle down. I do NOT want to get three months from now and be fatter because I was using the social distancing as an excuse to make bad choices. There is healthy food in my house and I have exercise options.

I hope all of you are doing well amidst all the crazy!

Hi, Cory. Doing what you can from home until things settle down, sounds like an excellent idea. Healthy food in your house & exercise options? Me too. Let's make this a time about getting as healthy as we can.

Hey Cory, good to see you posting again! You were one of the first people I met here, always nice to see you!

Healthy food and being able to find a way to exercise will be good for you. I am sure you'll be back on track and losing soon.

I hope you are able to post more regularly for a while, I think it would help you. I know it would be appreciated.

As a wise woman once told me "May your Reynolds number be high"

Hello guys. The last few days have been nuts. I had decided a couple weeks ago to do a raised garden bed to grow vegetables in. This was right before the coronavirus really started to hit big over here. The last week or so has been me scrambling to get it put together and filled with dirt before everything shuts down. I managed, but it was a difficult few days because I am considered essential because my employer has government contracts and I've been going to work every day. It's a relief to have it done. I haven't been exercising, but I'd say getting this thing built was exercise enough.

I've done ok with food. Generally around 1800 calories every day this week. That's a little higher than I'd like, but it's been challenging because I'm having to eat out for lunch every day while at work. The cafeteria is closed and I don't have access to a fridge on the manufacturing floor.
