Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

Thanks guys! Reading everyone's responses really makes my day.

Today was pretty good. I had some mild work stress, but nothing too terrible. I'm also excited about a potential opportunity. I think I'm going to get the chance to be more involved in an area that is definitely of interest to me. More chance to learn new things and expand my understanding of some things I already do. Keep your fingers crossed that it works out! I was supposed to lift today, but I decided to take another walk to take advantage of this brief window of nice weather. It's supposed to be cold and rainy tomorrow, so lifting can wait until then. Food also went pretty well.

Lunch: ham sandwich, salad, grapes, 672 calories
Dinner: broiled salmon and salad, 678 calories
Snacks: baklava and protein shake, 357 calories
Total: 1707 calories

I keep trying to get closer to 1500 calories than 1700, but my Arabic friend brought in homemade baklava today and I couldn't say no. I'm trying to be very well behaved this week though because Saturday is going to be a shit show. A group of us is going into the city to get sloppy and make questionable choices.

Fingers duly crossed.

That made me laugh :D

Who could say no to homemade baklava? :) Was it Damascus Flowers? They're my favourite, because what I like most is the filling, and the crunch of the pastry, not so much the syrup.
I'd be totally with you in seizing the good weather while it's available, and being out in the fresh air for a walk! Yes!

I hope so too, new professional opportunities can be exciting. Let us know how it works out.

Amy, there were a couple Damascus flowers in there, but it was an assortment of like 6 different versions. My favorite was this one that was whole cashews wrapped up in pastry strips with just a little honey.

Yesterday was rough. My department right now has two fairly experienced people, one with 3 years, me with two years, and a brand new fresh out. We used to have another experienced person, another person with 5 years, and another version of me, but they all left for various reasons last year. P (experienced) was out yesterday and R (3 years) was in an all day meeting, so I was trying to function like either of them. I think I did ok with a little help from C (other experienced guy), but it made for a long day. I didn't get to eat breakfast or lunch, so I was starving by the time I left. Wound up going to a Mexican place and probably eating about 1900 calories between chips and my entree. Don't let yourself get too hungry, folks. I got home at 9 and my bedtime is 10, so I didn't get to go lift.

I completely agree but at least 1900 kcal for the entire day would still have you at or just below maintenance. Stress makes temperance so hard!

Yeah, I'm not feeling too bad about it. I should definitely still be at a 300-400 calorie deficit.

What a day! Maybe you should have some healthy snacks available at work each day, Cory. Perhaps a banana & some nuts?

I brought lunch, I just didn't have time to eat it. Mostly because I spent all day in the test lab and we aren't allowed to have food in there.

13 hour work day today. I think it will calm down a little bit now. We finished the thing we were pushing so hard for. Didn't get to lift today, which is disappointing. Did better with food. Came in around 1600 calories. Now I'm going to go pass out. Might see if I can work s half day tomorrow.

I got my half day today. Left by noon. The pisser is that I'm supposed to get every other Friday off and this was going to be my Friday off. I'm definitely going to see about getting a new overtime form approved and/or seeing if my boss will let me take next Friday instead. He's usually really good about that.

I had a big Chinese buffet lunch with work friends before I went home today and grabbed a browinie at a local bakery on the way home. I estimated around 1700 calories today. Overall, I'm not too upset about how this week went other than that I wish I could have been more consistent with the gym. Weighed myself today and I am down 2.4 lbs. This is good considering how terrible tomorrow is likely to be. I know the trip into the city will be fun, but it's also kind of a stressful situation for me because I live a lot farther away than the other people who are going and I decided to stay in the city for the night instead of trying to stay sober and awake to get back home. From west to east is my house, my job, and then the city. Most of my friends live between the job and the city so it's only about a half and hour to 45 minutes for them. Me getting there is going to involve an hour in the car and then another hour walking or on the metro. It involves a lot more planning for me.

This weekend was nuts. We went to this Russian restaurant/bar to start the evening. The food was awesome and they had all of these infused vodkas. We drank a lot of them and racked up a pretty horrific bill. After that we went to a dance club. Fortunately I did not pay for another drink the rest of the night. I guess that's a perk of being a girl in a nightclub? We all danced for about 4 hours. No one was too inappropriate except for one coworker who grabbed my ass and a friend of a coworker who also got a bit handsy. Had to be pretty emphatic with him that I was NOT getting in his car for him to take me back to my hotel at the end of the night.

I'm actually having a little anxiety about Monday. I love to dance and I pretty much danced the whole time. It was so crowded and that meant a certain amount of bumping and grinding on my coworkers was inevitable. I'm probably overreacting and I doubt anyone will be weird tomorrow, but this is the first group of coworkers I've socialized with outside of work like this.

Overall the night was A LOT of fun and I think the birthday girl had exactly the night she was hoping for, which is what's important.

Hopefully your co-workers can separate the party Cory with the work Cory & aren't overly embarrassed by their own behavior. It sounds like you had loads of fun :D
