Does any one take psyllium husks or whatever we're allowed? I have never had them before and wonder if I should get onto them.

Hi Louise

You won't need any artificial bulking fibre if you have a frozen spinach cube with one meal every day / every other day.

The cubes weigh about 40 grams each whether frozen or thawed, just straight out of the packet and into whatever you are cooking - plus the other vegetables from your allowance, of course!

Brussels sprouts have the same effect, although these may not be on your program.

It is also important to understand that you are eating far less than previously. Just like breast feeding a baby, you can't expect daily motions of the same type, bulk and, yes, smell as before.

This is all clean food now, not processed stuff full of sugars and carbohydrates. This is a 'hunters and gatherer's' diet, not an industrial revolution diet.

Let everything settle for at least a week before you start relying on more habits to prop up previous expectations. Once underway, you will probably find that every two days is 'regular' rather than every day.

There is a lot of difference between occasional regularity and actual constipation. Be gentle with your body, no need for purges or laxatives. As mentioned, if you really feel you 'must' keep up the daily motions, eat frozen spinach. Believe me, it works a treat and is not a deviation!

Cheers

I weighed myself this morning I started Cohens Oct 2 (3 weeks) at 162 lbs, I am now 154 and really upset. Thats only 2.6 lbs a week! I feel I have sacrificed so much and not to see a better scale reading really has me confused, I have followed this diet to the T...I drink tons of water. I have lost more than 2.6 lbs a week by eating right and excersise...so I dont know whats going on ;-(

Hi soontobeskinny

Don't be upset, everybody loses the weight at different rates.

It is easy to have great expectations, but in the scheme of things it is the overall picture which needs to be kept in focus.

Your metabolism may have some real problems, and your program may need to gently lower your weight.

As I mentioned, I am 56 and had 25 kilos to lose.

I dropped 3.5 kilos in the first week, then half a kilo in the second week, but by the end of the 20 weeks I had lost 25 kilos - permanently!

Not only that, but it is now four months since I finished and the weight has not budged, I have lost this weight for ever.

And ... I have shrunk! I look good, if I say so myself. I reckon the program was magic, because it was a program for me, it did what was necessary for me, and it did it properly and took into account my age and not just my desire for a quick result.

Isn't this better than a 'crash diet' which would put me into an Oprah type pattern? Who wants to spend years anguishing over their weight? I don't. In fact, as I said in a previous post, it is a bit of an anti-climax to have such stable weight as I really didn't believe that this is what would happen.

So, please be patient. Your weight loss is 'built into' your program. Discuss this with your consultant, they will be able to explain how your program is designed for you. You may have some underlying health problems apart from the obesity which could be damaging if you lost the weight any quicker.

So I lost 1 kilo per week on average, that's 2.2 pounds. I was thrilled and so happy. You are losing more than I did and you are unhappy. Stick with it, remind yourself: This weight loss is for life, not just for Christmas!

If you have previously lost more than 2.6 lbs a week by eating right and exercise - and if the weight had stayed off, you would not need to be doing this very special program now.

Relax, take a deep breath. You will soon be skinny for the rest of your life so make sure you take lots of 'fat' photos now, as you will never look this way again!

cheers

Chelsea

Hi,
I also think there is a big difference between laxatives and natural fibre. I think we should only take laxatives on a very occassional basis -I never need them. But natural fibre adds bulk in our system which keeps everything moving. Even taking fibre, I still don't have daily motions, but I do feel like i have more energy and it makes it easier to go to the toilet when I do go. Fibre supplements were certainly recommended in my program, and I found I needed it by the end of the second week - I was feeling like I was getting blocked up.
So, I would certainly recommend adding some natural fibre to the program... Its allowed and not a deviation. But I wouldn't recommend laxatives unless you were actually constipated.

Funny you posted this at this time, I was feeling exactly the same way until TODAY!!!

I have just started week four and woke up today and though 'gee I look skinnier' then I took my waist measurement and was five centimetres down! My changes for the first weeks were minimal.

Keep going - it just gets better.

Wildskyz & Living it i too have just finished my third week, on day 22 to be exact. I find i fluctuate between weight loss and shrinkage! last week i hardly changed at all and then dropped 1.5kg over night. i'm really starting to notice my back fat disappearing and my waist and ribs are coming back!

hey guys!!

looks like you are all doing so well!!

i'm thinking of starting cohens myself but dot really know w whole lot about it (in detail)

how did you all get started in it? how much is it going to set me back money wise? haha

Howdy everyone,

BRIEZIEL - I too have fluctuated with my weight. Tho, I must say my measurements seem to have gone down quite quickly in these first 3 wks, but Im sure that will stop very smartly. Ive managed to lose 38.1cm in these past 3 weeks. Due for my 1st monthly weigh in on Monday thats coming up, like you. Id did do a cheat weigh at wk 2 as I just couldnt stand the suspense any longer. Keep up the great work and just think, it wont be all that long and we will be wondering where the time went and why did we wait so long to be slim. :p

Its such an exciting time for me. I truely feel like a little child waiting for Christmas day to arrive. I can taste what being thin will be like again. Has been a very very long time between drinks, thats for sure. And I am positive it will be my final journey of batteling obesity.

Hoping everyone has a lighter day.

Cheers,

Broken batter but better

I just thought I would update you all my ankle is broken (reviewed again by the hosptial) and now plastered, the body is very sore and feeling very sorry for itself and very embarrased but now that it is plaster it does feel better and my friends/family have had a good laugh at my expense.

Thanks Chelsea and Brieziel for your thought and well wishes on my weight loss and broken ankle.

Brieziel I haven't heard of the comfrey plant but i will investigate the cream at the health food shop as i'm really sore all over and the bruising is slowly starting to come out, if i can make this happen faster i think i will feel better and maybe my husband can throw the ice away.

Chelsea I have taken your advise and that of several friends and i will buy some new pants that fit, i'm definately once bitten twice shy especially now that my leg, ankle and foot is in plaster.

Question - can anyone tell me if painkillers and antinflammatory tablets cause any flucuations to weight? I did ring Geelong yesterday but they still haven't rang me back.

Keep up the good work everyone as the promised land is over the horizon

Cheers Jewls:eek:

Jewls,
So sorry to hear about your ankle.... that must be very painful!
I don't know if painkillers and antiinflammatory tablets cause weight fluctuation, but I think looking after your ankle and getting that better should be your priority. Ankles take a while to heal, and if they don't heal well, they can cause ongoing problems. If I were you, I would expect slower going with your weight loss while you are in plaster...... after all that plaster is pretty heavy! But you will also be less mobile, and have swelling, which will all add to your weight.
Remember to drink lots of water to help the swelling. Keep going with the ice until the bruising comes out..... you should have some lovely coloured bruising! (I had some beautiful greens and purples when I chipped the bone in my ankle!)

I also nearly tripped on my too-long pants and fell down some steps at a conference last week!

Hi Living it!

I too are at the 3 weeks time today. Have lost a total of 16.5cm. Not as good as some but I am still happy. Like you havent got on the scales yet but I can notice some difference and are hoping for a substantial loss. how about you?

Asyoz, thanks for the words of advice - new to this caper!!

deviation :(

not happy jan - had my 3rd weigh in (6 weeks) on saturday - was found in my 4 weeks blood test to have deviated. really? how? i've been following cohen's so strictly. oh wait, did i mention to you, that i researched the crackers? they have a whole bunch of lovely things like gluten, glucose, all horrible things. needless to say, i've collated all the information in a spreadsheet and won't be eating most of the different brands of crispbreads. and also, most of them have nut, milk, etc traces in them - these all show up in our blood tests as deviations.

"dr cohen" (who i don't believe even exists, btw. how is it that the booragoon clinic are the ones who sent us this info???) must be extremely worried with us to be telling us to eat the wrong things.

also, if cohens is as popular as we were told at our orientations, how come there aren't more success stories being printed?

i'm pretty annoyed at the moment about it. sorry all, just letting off steam

p.s. if anyone wants to have a look at my spreadsheet, email me: eleni.chrysostomou@gmail.com and i'll send you a copy. make some informed decisions!

Hi Jewls,

So sorry to hear about your ankle. I was told that you can take Panadol etc. Don't know if this is what you were thinking of, but I would assume that most painkillers would be ok. Hope you are feeling better soon. Sorry, not much time to post at the moment, madly trying to get a uni assignment done, and I'm so far behind. Also fell off the wagon for a few days this week. Hoping to get back on track tomorrow but I'm sure I've undone all the good I did last week. I haven't been game to weigh myself!!
Take care.

Hey Jools,

Never a problem :D

Keep in mind you NEED the anti-inflamatories, and mending your broken bits is more important than sticking 100% to the plan. There's no point being skinny and not being able to walk properly because your leg hasn't healed straight.

Stick to the doctor's orders, then to the clinic's plan, in that order.

Also do what HL said :D

Oh, and, I take Anti-inflammatories daily (for full body arthritis) and narcotic based pain killers daily for a back condition, and also take panadeine and nurofen as required, and doesn't seem to have made a difference to my loss (but then I wouldn't know what the loss would be without them coz I've been taking them for ages)...

Eleni,

Take this as you will.

The point isn't whether Dr Cohen exists or not, frankly I couldn't give a brass peanut if he does or not, the point is this diet is working where NO OTHERS HAVE for all of us.

I couldn't care less if there are published testimonials in glossy idiot-mags, coz I don't read them, and I seriously doubt these testimonials would have appeared in Nat Geo, or Aust Photography, which are the mags I do read.

Gluten and Glocose are not "horrible things" they are parts of the food system. The idea isn't to have NONE, it's to LIMIT what you do have.

I'm sure you're looking for a "there, there dear, you'll be fine" answer, but hey, I don't do those, sorry. The answer from me is "Do or Do Not, there IS NO TRY".

The blood test is an indication. It simply means your body reacts differently to the foods we are eating.

We've all (well some, but I know I have) been following the plan religiously, and I DO eat the crispbreads, although admittedly I sorta stick to Salada, coz I like them. And yet somehow my blood tests have come out juuuuuust fine.

Perhaps check everything you're ingesting. There may be something different there, or something you're doing differently to the plan. Discuss the problem with your clinic.

Ask all those who we know who HAVE finished, like Chelsea, and others who post here, whether they care if Dr Cohen exists? I bet they don't care if Ellie May Clampett wrote the plan. I sure know I don't.

You sound as if you're angry, OK, I probably would be too if I got a -ve reading to the blood test, but I'd look for a reason within my foods, not to have a go at the system. Do you really care who gives you the results? Would you be questioning it if your result was OK?

If you're looking for an excuse to give up, don't bother looking too hard, you'll find one, people always do when they're throwing in the towel. If you really want to succeed, suck it up, understand that "Dr Cohen" whether he exists or not isn't the issue here, and get on with it.

In any case, to reiterate, IT'S WORKING FOR US, DON'T RAIN ON OUR PARADE.

asy :D

Hey Babyegg,

The other thing that can affect loss is bed-time. I'm awfully naughty where that's concerned, quite often don't get to bed before 2am, then up again at 7.

I think Sleep and Water play a far bigger part in this plan than I've previously given them credit.

I'm going to try to get to bed before midnight tonight.

Are you a night owl too?
