2nd of all- Im addicted to chewing gum :( I am having more then 5 peices a day, because im a smoker and each time i go and have a ciggerette i take a peice out then have another fresh peice... Ot OOOO Anyways, my question to you all is... Does anyone know why there is a 5 peice per day rule?.. Is it so we dont look like Cows?.. i dont get it..
x

Hi BAM,
I think the theory is that chewing gum can stimulate your hunger. Our consultant said just to have a few chews of it and then threw it away - not to chew for very long.
I personally also think its not healthy to have too much artificial sweetener, so I wouldn't use more than 2 or 3 a day myself

Day 3

 Hello All

Today is my third day. I am still hungry BUT the terribles at work have got me doing so much that, i have not been able to eat my third meal today? I know it is completely wrong... but how wrong is it? I am really trying, but i can not stay up that late to eat again and then wait another two hours?

Have i completely screwed things up?

Should i give up?

I feel like i will just never quite master the art of Cohens... really, i feel so stupid and ditsy it is beyond belief...

Hope you are all doing ok.

PS- are there any secrets to making drinking all the water a little easier?

Dont Skip Meals Eva

Hi Living It - i know it gets hard sometimes especially when you are flat out!!!
But don't skip your meal, it is much better to eat late and sleep than it is to skip the meal all together, that means your body won't have had food from lunchtime today to breakfast tomorrow - that's way too long! it will totally screw everything. Your body needs protein in it's system at night, you need protein to burn fat! Please please don't skip meals or this whole program will take so much longer.
Sorry to come on a bit strong, I don't mean to sound bossy or anything nasty like that. I just really want to see you succeed and be fab for summer and for ever!! Please stick with this it will be soo worth it! You can do it!! You really can!!

You have not screwed things up, you just have to live a real life and you need to be pragmatic about Cohens "zero deviation" ideal, try your best to be 100% but dont expect that you will always be 100%! You have not failed because you are 99% on Cohens! You havn't failed when you fall off the wagon, you have only failed when you dont get back on the wagon.

My advise is to eat the third meal even late and go to bed if you have to, better than skipping a meal.

Water, my trick is to drink at room temp and try to make myself drink a certain amount each and every hour from 7am thru 9pm (eg 400mls each hour), drink, toilet, drink, toilet, 10 or 12 times a day :(

Today is my third day.

Hi living it

Please do not despair - this is only your third day! Everything takes a bit of getting used to, and you have started the program during the working week, whereas perhaps starting on a Saturday would have been a bit easier on you.

The knack with this program is to do a little planning ahead. The first week if probably a shambles for most people, but when you do your shopping this week make sure you have planned what you are going to buy.

When you get home, weigh and freeze your meal portions of protein in zip lock bags, and if you are going to be taking casseroles or salads for lunch, get in the habit of cooking the next day's food the day before - that way, when you get home late, there will be some cooked meat or chicken or whatever in the fridge - it takes only a couple of minutes to chop up some raw vegetables and have a salad, especially if you're too pooped to pop and can't bear the thought of starting to cook and then having to wait to go to bed.

The prime reason for eat - wait - sleep is that the body releases Human Growth Hormone at intervals throughout the 24 hours, but the largest pulse is between midnight and 2am, and the HGH works best when blood sugar is low, and blood sugar levels are lowest two hours after eating.

So the program 'rule' is to maximise the beneficial effects of the HGH pulse - you will not spontaneously combust if you eat then go to bed still swallowing the last mouthful.

However, you must have protein at intervals throughout the day. Remember that the meals are simply three groups of food designed to deliver reasonable amounts of protein, amino acids and triggers such as tryptophan. If you prefer, why not have steak and ratatouille for breakfast (only takes about five minutes to cook) and an egg or cheese or yoghurt & fruit supper?

Most of all, relax. Difficult when you are trying to do six things at once, but it does get easier. By the end of next week you will be swinging along, confident that this time, you will lose all the weight, you will stabilise, and you will maintain the weight as a mere slip of a lass for evermore!

Read your program, plan menus, shop for the plan and enjoy! This is lots of fun and you will be thrilled at the results.

If we can do it you can do it too - and you will and you will be triumphant!

For me, I found the easiest way to drink the water was to down a glass just before having a shot of coffee, just before eating, immediately after eating, etc In other words, joining the water to something. The urge to rush to the toilet every five minutes settles down after a couple of days as your body adjust to correct hydration.

When you'ver read the program for the tenth time you will start to feel that you've got the hang of it!

Cheers

Chelsea

Living it - you are nearly through the worst part of the program - in about two days I'm sure you will be feeling fantastic. I struggled with the first few days and even had to put myself to bed on the second day just so I'd get through!!! Now it feels kind of normal.

With your water, maybe experiment with what temperature of water suits you best. I like mine to be quite warm - certainly not cold. At the right temperature I can easily drink two and a half litres.

I'm so happy. I picked up my new program yesterday. It's different from my first one, as far as quantities and a few details are concerned. So today is my first day, and knowing I wont be doing it alone, but will have consultations and blood tests again makes the thought of it so much easier.

Bam, Happy Birthday to you!!! and also congratulations on getting into size 12!!!

Living it, i am sure its just the tough period of this program.. mentally you have to get use to the food and having to think of food to prepare... dun worry after first week it will all be so easy for you...

My loss is slow... nothing much to be happy about but i am not gaining any weight!!! :) So I am also happy....

Any gatherings for Singaporeans??

My weightloss begin to slow down... I don't know isit because of my menstruations.... This week, I've not lose any kg. Does anyone has this problem too?

And also, my menstruation seems more heavier b4 I start the diet prog... Every hour I gotta go toilet and change once.

I'm away for work - does anyone have any advice on how to best manage in these situations?

Thanks.

Hi Louise,
I travel every month or so. In most situations, I'm moving around alot, so can't prepare my own food. So, this is what I do......
Breakfast - generally either natural yoghurt and fruit at the buffet, or I order a poached egg with tomato and mushrooms
Lunch - I order a salad with some sort of meat with balsamic vinegar..... often calamari and salad, or grilled chicken and salad
Dinners - I often order steak/ chicken and veges (although veges are rarely cohen approved ones, so you are often better off with salad)

I take a packet of crispbreads with me, and often buy fruit to take along the way as well.
Its a challenge - obviously you can't get quantities correct, but you will "feel' when you are eating too much. I always tell people Im on a special diet for health reasons, cause then there is a certain amount of peer pressure to follow the diet.
If I get through without eating any desserts/ sugary/ high fat foods, then I feel pretty happy with my efforts.
I also try to do exercise while I'm away, which I don't do at home - walking or swimming, to help deal with the additional foods being consumed!

If you are attending a meeting or conference where they are catering, then just let know in advance what you need, and be fairly specific... I often ask for a greek salad in that situation.

Good Luck! I'm off again next week for a week's conference, so I'll be in the same position again then.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BAM:D

Thanks again Lessfatty for your help and advice.

I had a very interesting day yesterday. I went away for work, which is a bit of a regular occurance, but yesterday was an event in the middle of the desert and about 40 degrees. I had to drive for over 3 hours to get there so I didn't drink much water (not wanting to pee on the side of the road). When I got there it was the usual mad rush of erecting marquees and tables and organising food and drinks etc. Anyway, I started shaking violently and almost fainted (so embarrasing) The only thing to eat at that stage was jam and cream scones, so I had to have 2 without actually wanting to deviate. I drank about 4 litres of water and still did not need to go to the toilet.
Funny thing is, although I was almost at fainting stage, I still felt really really well.

I am still determined to lose this 10kg by Christmas, so I hope the scones don't effect me too much at weigh in time!

Hope everyone is having a great day.

ticker update...

just a quick ticker update...

YAY i'm homeward bound now... nothing can stop me now!!!

Hubby is ringing for his refeed plan this week so hopefully he will start that in the begining of november

Tasm82 - Way to go! Congrates to your hubby and to you!

Lessfatty - I think what was said earlier might be right - now that you are losing the weight, feeling more confident and in control, you are reevaluating other areas of your life as well. Life is too short to settle for mediocricy (sp?) - start living life with passion - and see where it leads. Change is something we can always count on - focus on what great things will come from the change - and not the annoying steps in between (just like on Cohen's) I think you should seriously think about what and where you would be the happiest and then set goals to make that a reality in your life. Happy dreaming!

Well - gotta get to sleep so my body can burn more fat! My baby slept all the way through the night last night - hoping for a repeat of that tonight!

For those of you who weigh daily/ weekly...

For those of you who weigh daily/ weekly...
Have you seen a pattern of weight loss emerging over the month between official weigh in's?
I seem to have a 2 weekly pattern.... one week of slow weight loss and one week of fast. But this may also be because I have so many meals at restaurants!!
This week, I've lost nearly 2 kgs, compared with last week where I struggled to lose 1.
Any others noticing patterns?

Heavenly lamb and lessfatty

Congratulations to each of you on achieving 20 kilos.

This is marvellous and so quickly! I'm sure this is also very encouraging to you and that people must be starting to notice.

asyoz, nearly at the 40 kilo mark! Phenominal!!

You are an inspiration!

Today in Melbourne the temperature was well over 30 degrees - and this is early October! But this year, roll on summer, for the first time in years I will be wearing singlet tops without deli arms and bulging midrif!

Cheers
