Weight-Loss Coffee

Weight-Loss
Yup, Alabama is definitely the land of sweet iced tea. My family always keeps two pitchers of it in the fridge at a time - one with regular sugar and one with Splenda (for my mother).

I don't understand why it hasn't caught on in other parts of the country, honestly. It kills me to go into a restaurant in California or Michigan and not be able to order a glass.

What's WRONG with you people?!

:ack2:

I was in north carolina a few years ago and ordered a glass of ice tea... I am so used to unsweetened iced tea the sweet tea was absolutely revolting.. and undrinkable... maybe it's why southerners drip sweetness and yankees are a little surly it's the tea that does it :) but give me the unsweetened variety any day of the week :D

Heh, I actually like it perfectly well both ways. It just depends on my mood. But it only comes one way in my house. Your only choice is whether you like fake sugar or the real deal. :D

Does Coffee makes us fat??

Does anyone knows that coffee makes us fat?? usuallly i drink 3 cups of coffee when i am at work to reduce stress.please reply me...

Coffee does not have any calories - it's what you put in the coffee that has the calories.

However water is better for you long term...

Find better ways to deal with stress

you drink something with a stimulant in it to reduce stress...whaaaat.

but no, coffee itself isn't bad. it's the cream and sugar that adds on the calories.

I hope not! Like many have set, it's what you put in the coffee that matters. Take it with a grain of salt (or sugar :smilielol5:), but here's a pretty good chart that tells you about all the extras in coffee. Coffee itself is pretty empty

Drinking coffee is actually healthy for you, but don't make it a habit. It's like wine and chocolate. All have their benefits, but don't over do it. Don't relay on coffee as a stress reducer. Think outside of the box. Meditate, eat healthy foods, chew gum, squeeze those little squeeze balls and or breathing helps too.

I read that coffee induces hunger though. From my experiences, I think this may be true.

Then again, it may all be in my head...like the voices.

I have never heard of it inducing hunger. I will have to google that one! I am a coffee lover from the word go!

love it!!
gotta have it!!
can't live with out it!!

well ok if the doctors said I would have to live without it I would but I would cry alot!!

Coffee is a stimulant with no calories on it's own. It's not bad - however, it does raise your blood pressure so I would make sure you are either normal or below normal before taking it. Also, the trends show that people tend to get addicted to it and rely on it to "wake" themselves up. I wouldn't make it a habit that way.

You know my wife drinks about 8 cups of coffee/day with plenty of cream in it and she isn't fat, so I guess coffee doesn't make you fat. :willy_nilly:

Does Coffee Make us fat??

When we intake caffeine from any source, Our heart beats faster, pumping more blood into our muscles.
Glycogen in our liver and muscle tissue is converted into glucose and released into the blood stream.
You feel energized and ready for action.
Make sense so far? Once this glucose is released into our bloodstream, if it is not used for physical action i.e. the fight or flight, it must be dealt with. This presence of glucose will cause the pancreas to release insulin into our bloodstream to control this excess sugar.

Since your body can't absorb the blood sugar into the muscles and liver, your body will convert this sugar into triglycerides, a type of fat. Your body will then store this fat in its fat cells. If you are glucose intolerant or have borderline glucose resistance, (like 17 million people in the United States), coffee tends to convert the sugar you ate yesterday into fat today.

A much better beverage that does not cause this reaction and that is very healthful is African Red Bush Tea also called Rooibos tea. It is the highest in antioxidants of any known plant. This tea is a known stress releiver not a stress and jitteryness inducer like caffeine products. Check it out. In studies Rooibos Tea has been given the accolades of being the plant with most longevity producing qualities of all plants.

It also tastes very good even without sugar and cream.

Rooibos tea is also recommended for weight loss since it helps to control the appetite, and is good for stomach upset. It is available all over the net and even in grocery stores, and available under many brands.

I've copied this from

Caffeine increases the level of circulating fatty acids. This has been shown to increase the oxidation of these fuels, hence enhancing fat oxidation. Caffeine has been used for years by runners and endurance people to enhance fatty acid metabolism. It's particularly effective in those who are not habitual users.

Caffeine is not an appetite suppressant. It does affect metabolism, though it is a good question whether its use truly makes any difference during a diet. The questionable rationale for its original inclusion in diet pills was to make a poor man's amphetamine-like preparation from the non-stimulant sympathomimetic phenylpropanolamine and the stimulant caffeine. (That you end up with something very non-amphetamine like is neither here nor there.) The combination drugs were called "Dexatrim" or Dexa-whosis (as in Dexedrine) for a reason, namely, to assert its similarity in the minds of prospective buyers. However, caffeine has not been in OTC diet pills for many years per order of the FDA, which stated that there was no evidence of efficacy for such a combination.

From Goodman and Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics:

Caffeine in combination with an analgesic, such as aspirin, is widely used in the treatment of ordinary types of headache. There are few data to substantiate its efficacy for this purpose. Caffeine is also used in combination with an ergot alkaloid in the treatment of migrane (Chapter 39).

Ergotamine is usually administered orally (in combination with caffeine) or sublingually [...] If a patient cannot tolerate ergotamine orally, rectal administration of a mixture of caffeine and ergotamine tartarate may be attempted.

The bioavailability [of ergotamine] after sublingual administration is also poor and is often inadequate for therapeutic purposes [...] the concurrent administration of caffeine (50-100 mg per mg of ergotamine) improves both the rate and extent of absorption [...] However, there is little correspondence between the concentration of ergotamine in plasma and the intensity or duration of therapeutic or toxic effects.

Caffeine enhances the action of the ergot alkaloids in the treatment of migrane, a discovery that must be credited to the sufferers from the disease who observed that strong coffee gave symptomatic relief, especially when combined with the ergot alkaloids. As mentioned, caffeine increases the oral and rectal absorption of ergotamine, and it is widely believed that this accounts for its enhancement of therapeutic effects.

Nowadays most of researchers believe that the stimulatory actions are attributable to the antagonism of the adenosine. Agonists at the adenosine receptors produce sedation while antagonists at these sites, like caffeine and theophylline induce stimulation, and what is even more important, the latter substance also reverse agonists-induced symptoms of sedation, thus indicating that this effects go through these receptors.

Another possibility, however, is that methylxanthines enhance release of excitatory aminoacids, like glutamate and aspartate, which are the main stimulatory neurotransmitters in the brain.

As to the side effects: methylxanthines inhibit protective activity of common antiepileptic drugs in exptl. animals in doses comparable to those used in humans when correction to the surface area is made. It should be underlined, that although tolerance develop to the stimulatory effects of theo or caffeine when administered on a chronic base, we found no tolerance to the above effects . This hazardous influence was even enhanced over time. Therefore, it should be emphasized that individuals suffering from epilepsy should avoid, or at least reduce consumption of coffee and other caffeine-containing beverages.

Coffee Drinkers READ

Just checked the nutrition stats at Dunkin Donuts:

Small coffee (10 oz) with skim milk: 25 calories, 0 fat

Coffee with cream and sugar: 120 caloires, 50 calories (6 grams) from fat, 3.5 grams of saturated fat!

Think about that if you drink at least 10 oz per day every day that's an EXTRA 2190 grams of fat and 34675 calories per year you'd be saving by drinking your coffee with just skim milk.

DD coffee I don't like because it's not strong enough -a nd it drives me crazy that they put in the cream/milk for you - I don't like sugar in my coffee - but a little bit of milk -and DD has never gotten that concept...

Caribou, Starbucks, Lavazza, Cosi, Etc.. all let you pour your own cream... much better... just a little bit is all it takes...

Skim milkin coffee is gross -turns it an ghastly color...

Just ask for no sugar, they always second guess me too though. Then I just add my own splenda afterwards.

Even if you're used to drinking coffe/iced coffee with extra extra cream and sugar, you will eventually get used to skim milk and actually enjoy the taste of coffee.

Coffee and Weight Loss

I'm a huge coffee drinker and I've heard a lot of myths of the pros and cons of drinking coffee while dieting. It's believed that coffee slows down your metabolism, ergo, stalling your weight loss success.

Perhaps some of you are educated and/or informed on this topic, and I'd really like to know your opinions. I need to know wether or not I have to give up another addiction.

I wonder. Is it the caffeine that slows it or something else in the coffee. Honestly is there anything else in it?

Ever since I got off caffeine my weight loss has been much easier.
