Club 200 Plus

I just joined this forum and this group gives me hope... that there are people out there like me with similar goals. I'm thrilled to have found you all.

I am currently 225 pounds and am looking at a goal weight of 160.

Right now my goal is 220. So here goes nothing!

What is a bootcamp buddy?? So no, I wasn't a bootcamp buddy. But thank you for your welcome.

Any suggestions on where to start? I'm a poor college student with limited resources... my biggest downfall is convenience foods combined with laziness.

I've started walking and I have Hip Hop Abs tapes that I do occaisionally.

I'm trying to watch my portion sizes and eat as healthy as possible. The problem is I'm a very picky eater and don't like a lot of vegetables or fruits. It makes it hard to be healthy.

Any advice is welcome. I want to make this a lifestyle I can continue and not just use flashy fad diets and whatnot.

I used to be on another weight loss site that was dedicated to the WW plan. They called themselves bootcamp buddies. The motto was "tough love." Anyway, there was a girl on there that called herself JustJess. That's why I wondered. :D

Hmm. That is a toughie since you don't like many fruits and veggies. Have you tried a good variety? I only ask this because our tastes change. A couple of years ago I hated cabbage. Now I love it. (Still hate celery, tho, lol). Try different things, different varieties. You can always jazz up veggies with seasonings like lemon pepper, garlic, low-fat cheese. It'll help mask things, anyway. Make a homemade pizza with lots of veggies. Make a smoothie with yogurt and fruit. :( I'm afraid at this point that's all I have. I actually like fruits and veggies so I don't do alot to make it more tasty. Check out the recipes thread. You may find some good ideas there, too.

The fact that you are staying away from fad diets and that you recognize this is a lifestyle change is a huge step in the right direction. I'm proud of you! :D

justjessie,

I don't know if you eat at your college's cafeteria or mostly at home, but if it's the second choice, check out jerry seinfeld's wife. She's found ways to sneak veggies into other foods so that you don't even tast them.

And I hated veggies all my life until I met my husband. He can cook! Which basically means, try to flavor them, and do what you like (for example, if you really like asian food, buy a pack of frozen veggies and mix them up with a low fat asian vinaigrette).

I have an apartment and actually just graduated college about a week ago, so I eat mostly at home.

Thank you for the suggestions! I will look into that. I know I need to expand my food horizons... I'm just a big wuss!

my exercise is using my exercise bike

For me the single most important thing is keeping up a consistent level of exercise year round. I never lose weight through exercise alone, but when my exercise level goes down (as it usually does in the winter) I gain weight really fast. So exercise is the first and most important part of my diet plan. For the last few years my primary exercise has been biking and I've struggled to find something to replace it during the winter. Last winter I started ice skating, and finally made it through a winter without significant weight gain.

As far as actual DIET goes... the method that's worked best for me is a modified version of Martin Kataahn's Rotation Diet.

I start in the spring with a one-month "rotation" that ends up about halfway between the Men's and Women's Diet Plan (the Women's Plan is just too low calorie for me). I actually follow the women's meal plans in the book pretty closely, but with as much fresh fruit as I feel like eating, larger servings of meat and one or two additional servings of whole-grain carbs per day.

Week 1: 900-1200 calories/day for 3 days, then 1200-1400 for 4 days.
Week 2: 1500-1600 per day
Week 3: repeat week 1
Week 4: start at 900 calories the first day, then gradually add 300 calories per day until you reach maintenance level.

I must admit that I have never followed it PERFECTLY, but close enough so I usually lose about 10 pounds in the first month.

After that, I switch to a "sensible" calorie-based diet calculated to lose one pound per week. This is pretty much the maintenance diet that Kataahn recommends, but with 500 fewer calories per day. I try to keep carbs as low as I comfortably can, but I can't tolerate a truly low-carb diet like South Beach or Atkins. I eat lots and lots and LOTS of fresh fruit. I avoid deep-fried food, butter and dessert food but I do eat quite a bit of meat. If I bike 50 miles per week (or equivalent) I can eat close to 1800 calories per day and lose weight. At that level I'm hungry all the time, but not ravenous.

Sometimes I do a second one-month rotation later in the summer. It's usually not as successful as the first rotation, but it gets me off the plateau.

My goal is to lose 20 pounds per year. It's been pretty much working except for the winter gainback.

hey!
I like the idea of this thread. I'm 229 and hoping to be in the 100's by next year (or earlier would be great!) but I'm not entirely sure how to set realistic weight loss goals for myself. I'm just starting out, this is day 3, but I'm trying to exercise at least an hour a day, and eat sensible portions. I need to eat more fruits and veggies, I can't wait to get some watermelon and maybe even some green beans. But actually, I have to rely on my parents to get me the food I need, (I'm 16, 17 in june) so it's kind of difficult to get healthy food unless I go with them. We keep a LOT of junk food around the house, and that's the hardest thing. I usually lose my willpower about a week through, but if I have a group to keep me accountable, then I think it would be easier.

By the way, I'm Annie.
Nice to meet you!

I'm eating a spinach/chicken salad with tofu "mayonnaise" and is it ever good! I've also got 5 whole grain/whole seed crackers and they taste as sweet as cookies. This is the best thing about being on a diet - food tastes so fantastic!

Do you have any diet lunches you really love? Tell me about them!

HEY I am new to forum 234.5 pnds weighing in everyday. Though i would say hi and how great it is to find people who share your same struggles with the weight loss.

also lilly my goal is 100 by next year as well , its about 1.9 pnds a week which is healthy, just remember some weeks will be more weight loss than others (usually in the beginning) but it will all average out in the end
