Your dry July thing was a great motivation for me summer before last. It got me to stop, or almost stop anyway, drinking. Before going on this diet I was drinking several whiskeys and sometimes beer or wine every day. After going with you on that dry July thing I have cut back to less than that a month. Still have a drink now and then, but it is a rare, not regular, occurrence. I think it really helped with the weight loss and made me feel better all round. Not to mention saving money, now I can buy the best and spend less that I did on much cheaper stuff. Good luck with yours this year!dry July
That sounds like a great day to me Cate! Are you aiming for a certain amount of calorie deficit?Yesterday went quite well. Day 1-1562 cals, 269 deficit. No wine. That's an ok start. I'll aim for better today.
Thanks, Rob. You did much better than me last year, but I am really glad that I was the catalyst for you cutting down your alcohol intake. You & my other friends in the forum have helped me to refocus on getting back to a healthy weight again. If I had anyone ranting about the evils of alcohol I would not be doing what I'm doing. I feel good about not drinking & cutting my calories.Your dry July thing was a great motivation for me summer before last. It got me to stop, or almost stop anyway, drinking. Thanks, Liza. I'm really just concentrating on not having any wine at all or snacking & logging everything. I'm starting off with <1500 cals a day & will post my day the next morning. That sounds like a great day to me Cate! Are you aiming for a certain amount of calorie deficit?

Alcohol in moderation is fine, but a couple of glasses of wine most nights was stopping me from losing weight. I need to cut it out for a while to see what happens. Later on, I can reintroduce some alcohol, but for now, I'm not missing it.I rarely drink but don't strictly see alcohol as evil in moderation however from a fitness and recovery perspective after exercise it is certainly bad news.
I am LaMa. Thank goodness!Looks like you're properly back on track!
I love how well you look after Arch Speaking of coats, did you find yourself a good raincoat yet?Arch could do with a new coat. He had a haircut today & needs a warm pullover 9without any velcro)
Yep, a couple of glasses is all it takes, that's about 250 calories, about the same as 3 apples. Maybe around 15% of your target daily calorie intake wasted...Alcohol in moderation is fine, but a couple of glasses of wine most nights was stopping me from losing weight.
Thanks, Liza. I haven't found anything for myself yet. I did find some waterproof pants when we were in Hobart, but they were too good & priced to match. They were amazing but seemed like overkill. I haven't been shopping for myself as I always have Arch with me.Great job on keeping the calories under 1500.

I may have bought him a lovely new coat yesterdayI´m sure Archie´s coat will be more expensive than Cate´s as well
Yep. Not having those 2 glasses most days is making a lot of difference. I wish I could see all the bouncing around on the scales in the same way most people, including you can. I have gone down 2 kg, & back up 1.5 this week alone. I know it can't be fat, but it drives me bananas! I didn't drink enough in town yesterday & had a Chinese lunch so it will be water retention. Today is day 5 of no wine & <1500 cals & I really do feel back on track. I'll drink lots of water & green tea today & weigh again tomorrow.Yep, a couple of glasses is all it takes, that's about 250 calories, about the same as 3 apples. Good to see you on track!
Thanks, Em. I'm glad I visited. He's doing it tough & is feeling very nauseous. It was good to spend time with them both. I'm not finding the not drinking alcohol thing so hard I must admit, which is good. I'll be glad when I start losing consistently, even if it's slow.Sorry to hear that about your brother-in-law, that's very tough.
Glad you are doing well on the 'lifestyle change'.
Good for you, best of luck with the weigh in, but no matter the result being on track is great, and matters more.Today is day 5 of no wine & <1500 cals & I really do feel back on track
Thanks, Rob. I will try to think that way. I just looked up my weight records from MFP & it has been over 4 years since I was at my happy weight! That’s not my lowest weight, but one I would be happy to get to & stay at.Good for you, best of luck with the weigh in, but no matter the result being on track is great, and matters more.
Yeah that can be frustrating to see weight fluctuating like that! But hopefully as you weigh more regularly the fluctuations won't be as off-putting. I think that by weighing regularly the fluctuations get put into perspective.I wish I could see all the bouncing around on the scales in the same way most people, including you can. Neither the shop assistant nor I thought of it in the shop. I'm glad I checked before it got peed on!Things I wouldn´t have thought to check either! Sounds like a good day all around.
I hope I will get used to the fluctuations too, but they do really frustrate me. My weight bounces up & down like a yo yo. Anyone would think I was still hormonal!Yeah that can be frustrating to see weight fluctuating like that! But hopefully as you weigh more regularly the fluctuations won't be as off-putting. I hope so, Em & soon.Keep it up Cate and you will see those results!
Lol at Archie's coat.
