Cate's Diary

Thanks, Liza. I think I may have gout as well as my usual arthritis. I have been eating more red meat, oranges & tomatoes than normal lately, plus vegemite which I haven't eaten for years. I'll cut down on all of those things instantly.
The walk yesterday was lovely.
It is so windy here today. It's nuts. When I do go for a walk I'll drive to the letterboxes & park there & walk so that I am not walking under gum trees. I hate strong wind. It really rattles me.

You need to go to Bath in England to treat gout, that's what they always do in the old novels. ;)

But maybe some Epsom salt baths or even just foot baths might help?

From my new book: ginger, pears, potatoes, rose and tea are all good. :)

I think I will try the Epsom salt foot bath today, Em. I have been thinking about doing that at night. My dad always used to. I drink rosehip tea & take rosehip capsules each day, plus flax oil capsules & I love ginger & had some yesterday. I feel it's the tomatoes & oranges that have aggravated it. I have never been diagnosed with gout, but definitely have been with osteoarthritis. My feet feel terrible this morning. That foot bath sounds so appealing.
The wind is getting worse out there. Arch is nagging me for a walk & I want to hide under a doona!

Oh, I hope you did it Cate! I actually got the idea from the woman who used to do my waxing for me, I think I was saying I don't have a bath and I miss them, and she said that foot baths are a great alternative. So there you go!

Oh, Em. I didn't, but I should have. I will tonight. I got a message from K9 about a little, 8 yr old, female terrier needing rehoming as the owner is going into an aged care home. I had mentioned on Christmas day that someone I knew was looking for one. I couldn't remember who it was, but went through my phone contacts & made some calls & called in on a "neighbour" up the other end of the road. At the end of the day, I got a positive response from CB & now I'm waiting for more details to pass on to her. I'm waiting to hear back from K9. CB has got excited about the prospect so I hope this works out. G & I are going to Hobart this weekend so could bring her back if it can be arranged.
My left big toe is not hurting today but my right foot is still aching. I'm thinking it may have been my new boots which I wore to lunch on Friday & again on Sat night. I might fish out my orthotics & put them in them next time I wear them.
Arch & I went for a good walk yesterday even though it was wild & windy & cold. We rugged up.

Lovely! Being a go-between for things like that makes me terribly anxious. Great to hear it's looking positive though. If she's a healthy terrier she may well have another 8 good years in her.

It had made me really anxious too, LaMa & I felt so relieved to be able to step back. She’s a Yorkie apparently. I think K9 was relieved as well. I do love that woman!

I keep meaning to do epsom salt foot soaks too...not so much for foot pain as I don't have that but more for the magnesium...
Nice to hear you could help out in finding the dog a new home :)

@liza My feet felt so good afterwards. I am going to do it more often. Actually, you just reminded me to go get my magnesium spray. I am going to change my socks & put on some thicker, warmer ones so I will rub magnesium oil into my feet at the same time. *sigh* My feet will thank me.
We're about to head off for a couple of nights so may not be as present in the forum. I will have a day to myself tomorrow & will do some shopping & go to the harvest market nearby. I'll try to get some waterproof over pants & a beanie with a peak if I can find one.

Thanks, Em for reminding me how important it is to look after my feet. I hope you can enjoy your weekend even though things don't seem so good at the moment :grouphug:

oh that sounds so nice! I used to give myself almost daily foot massages when I used to have a lot of foot pain. Now they get hardly any care at all--I should treat them once in a while!
Hope you have a nice couple of days away!

Just lost a long post & don’t have the energy to do it again. Have had very little sleep as have been badly affected by the strong fragrance in the place we’re staying. I can’t wait to go home.
Thanks, Em & Liza :grouphug:

It’s 4 pm & I had a 2-hour “nap” so feeling human again. I went into town this morning with M & walked around the market & got a few little things. We came back & had a coffee & then I decided I had to try to get some sleep before going out to dinner tonight.

That's too bad about the fragrance :( . Glad you were able to get a nap in...hope the rest of the time goes well!

Sorry to hear that, I'm glad the nap helped a bit and hope you'll be able to enjoy dinner regardless.
Thanks, LaMa, I did enjoy dinner & was glad to go elsewhere & I had a better night's sleep, but the air in the place we were staying is toxic.

Thanks, Liza. The fragrance was awful. I'm home again now thank goodness. When I checked out of the casino this morning I found out why I felt so ill. I couldn't really work it out until after breakfast this morning when we went back to our room. When we left the room didn't smell too bad. I had left the window wide open all night, but when we got back the smell was overpowering (literally) again. I went to reception & checked out & asked if they choof stuff into the air through the air conditioning & they do. They call it fragrance, but I can think of some pretty dreadful names for it. Everywhere we went was the same. I have had a toxic overload.
This may take me days to get over & I won't be going anywhere. Everything we took is in the wash.
I am going to write to the casino & the papers about this.
Arch was pleased to see us & we took him to an off-lead dog park that we discovered only just the other day in the same town as the kennels. He's currently fast asleep.
