Buddies? Any out there for me?

Hey guys!!

Wecome Monica to our group of buddies. I actually just replied in your journal this morning. Small world. I'm glad you joined because we need all the support we can get, and so far I'm loving these forums.

How have I been trying to lose weight? I've tried so many diets and they've been so restrictive that I've fallen off the wagon, so I've taken to modifying my own diet and picking out my own meals and snacks. That way if I cheat I dont' feel quite so bad. I have my cheat days every now and then, but nothing excessive.

I work at a gym 6 days a week, and so I try to work out at least 4 of those days, and twice a week with a trainer. Today is going to be a very long day- 8 am- 8 pm. And then the next couple of days are going to be just as jam packed- 5 am- 12 pm here at the gym, 1-4 at my other job, 5pm-8pm back here at the gym. I am going to see if they can get someone to take one of the 5-8's the next couple of days or I will be absolutely dead. I probably wont be working out the next four days. Sheesh...

Help me out ladies...

One of the times that I've had a pretty massive weight loss was when I was working at Kay Jewelers and it was Christmas time. I find it's great to be working a lot, cos then you don't really have the chance to eat a lot. Like you get your meal breaks but it's not like you can just stop and snack whenever you want.

Anyway, what gym do you work at?

And thank you for your entry in my journal. I really appreciated it! :)

Welcome monikuddle! I agree, water water water! but possably the cheese as well?... cheese is high in fat and can slow down your elimination. maybe it would help if we started logging what we ate for a week or so and get feed back from each other. Its always good to take a step back and have someone else see what they can find. I'll start logging tomorrow, and would love for you guys to help me decide where I need to change things.
As far as how I'm losing weight, well I don't do diets or pills or the next big weight loss gimmick. I make lifestyle changes as well. When I was living in Alaska I devoted my time to changing my habits and counting calories, it worked great I lost close to 50lbs. Well I also didnt do much else but spend my time worrying about how much I was eating and how many calories were in this and that! I want to be able to do it this time and have time for other things. I really need to pay attention to what I'm eating, and how much(portion control) but not necessarily about calories.
so tomorrow I will begin my logging and see where it takes me... should we start this log in this thread or should I start a new one in a different forum? Let me know so I can start it in the morning! thanks!

Well, first off, I think you should log your food intake in the Diary section. that's where I've been doing mine and that way you'll know it's not just the few of us looking at it, but probably everyone! That might motivate you to keep it healthy if you know everyone will see it! It's certainly helping me!

Secondly, you lived in Alaska??? I love it there!!! I visited a few years ago, and it made the hugest impact on me! I have wanted to move there ever since, but instead I found myself in London. haha Why don't you live there anymore? And what was the most challenging thing?

I work for Premier Fitness. I work at front reception and in daycare. Ever since I moved into my own place I have been really good about packing my own food for my breaks. Fresh fruit and vegies, and low fat nutrigrain bars, and because I usually go home between 12 and 5 I make myself a salad and sandwich usually.

I used to work for a fast food chain when I lived in Australia (KFC) where I gained a great deal of weight (surprise surprise) because I would only get 10 minute breaks and by the time I got to the health food place I had less than a minute to eat before I had to start so I just ate what was there.

I have been avoiding fast food ever since. I said to myself that I would never work for a fast food chain again and now look where I am...at a fitness club....oh, the irony...at least to me it is!

I lived on Prince of Wales Island in South East Alaska, the third largest island in the US...but the smallest podunk town EVER! 1400 people on a good day:) I moved up there with a friend, (her home town) and lived there for about 15 months. I deffinatley found myself up there. and my Fiance!:D how'd you end up in London? I've always wanted to visit Europe! and your heading to Italy? on vacation or a move? where in Alaska have you been?

I will start listing my food in the diary, not that many people have commented on mine:eek:

I think posting what we eat would be a great idea. Not only would it help us realize what all we are eating it will give others a chance to help see what we shouldn't be eating AND it will give us all different ideas on good things to eat. I've been eating healthy for so long that I am bored to death with food... healthy food anyway. The only good thing about it is that I don't look forward to food like I used to. I do look forward to going to eat though. Even though I normally get grilled chicken, steamed veggie and a salad it's still really good for some reason. For one, I didn't have to make it...lol. Plus, they use bad stuff to cook that stuff which makes it taste better.

When you guys first suggested that I drink more water I thought to myself "I drink a lot of water so it must not be that" .... BUT then I got thinking.... I used to drink green tea like crazy and lately i've been drinking a lot of coffee. I used to only drink it in the morning and now I drink a few during the day. Caffene dehydrate you, doesn't it? I hadn't even thought of that! So, today I only had one cup of regular coffee and one cup of decaf. Is decaf ok to drink? I'm going to try to wing myself off it totally though. I have drank alot of water today and yesterday. I was down one pound so maybe it really will work. My fingers are crossed.

It's up to you guys if you want to start a new post for us to post our intake for the day. I say, start a new one but it really doesn't matter to me.

I'm also proud to say that I havent' ate any cheese "yet" today...lol. I like to melt a slice of pepper jack on my veggies but I didn't do it. I put garlic powder on instead. I really appreciate your guys help.

Thanks

I have a tip for everyone. Some probably already do this. Go to the store and buy a ton of frozen veggies. Veggies of all kinds.... plain beans... corn, mixed blends, soup mixes, corn mixes, ect. I have about 20 bags in my freezer...lol. Cook up a bag or two at a time. I just boil them. I like mine not quite done. I mix different kinds and make my own blends. Eat what you want and put the rest in the fridge. Several times a day take it out and scoop out some and throw it in the microwave.

I also add frozen veggies to almost everything I cook. Use your imagination. You would be surprised what all tastes good with veggies mixed in.

I love those green teas on the go By Lipton. The cherry blossom and honey lemon are the best. I carry them in my purse and school bad at all times. I gave up pop a few months ago so these packets have saved me. Plain water just gets boring after awhile. Cherry Crystal Lite is pretty good too.

That's a good idea when it comes to the frozen vegies. I bought myself some packs of fish fillets and have them frozen in the freezer. I love my fish, but I have to find some low fat recipes to cook them with.

I'm tired....I need coffee but then I wont sleep when I go home at 8 pm...

I always do veggies with chicken or fish, and couscous. In the grocery store you can buy boxed couscous, thier not made with anything bad and take about 5 minutes to make. throw some low sodium soy sauce or a little olive oil with spices on them and its a perfect dinner.:) but you should deffinatley bake or steam the veggies, cause boiling removes all the nutrients!:p canned veggies and fruits are very good too because frozen and canned are always picked at peak ripeness than flash frozen or canned so they can actually be even better for you than "fresh" produce.
I'm not sure if anybody's heard this or not, but don't buy or eat any spinach that is packaged or in bulk. The FDA has issued a warning about an E coli outbreak in about 19 states from produce. so be careful!!:(
You guys should get this book its great.... Super Foods RX fourteen foods that will change your lifeBy Steven Pratt, MD and Kathy Matthews its a great guidline for what foods have what nutrients and vitamins.

So, how did everyone do today? I did pretty good actually. I ate well AND worked out. I'm going to go to the gym here in town soon and see about a membership. Where I work out at the main campus at school before my classes but it's forty minutes away. I only go to main campus twice a week and with gas the way it is I can't afford to drive up just to work out. Does anybody know how expensive Curves is? That is my other option but I don't know how expensive it will be or what all they have. I need to do some looking around.

I was down a pound more today so I think the water is working. Woo hoo! I also steamed my veggies today instead of boiling them. I'm hoping to down a little more tomorrow. I've had a deal with my mom. The deal was that if I can lose 15 pounds in three months that she will give me $100. My sister, which is about my size, had the same deal. If my mom lost 15 then we would each give her $50. They didn't lose very much. They started to but gave up... we all know what thats like. Well, i've just barely made it but I MADE IT! I need to go over in the morning and get on her scale to prove it so I can get my $100. It's a pretty awesome deal if you ask me. Kind of a win win thing. Too bad she wouldn't do that for every 15 pounds I lose....lol.

Hope everybody is still on track.

I did horribly today. More details in my diary but I also didn't get a chance to exercise which completely sucked because I want nothing more than to start exercising regularly again. And this schedule I'm on right now leaves me no time becuase I go straight home and to sleep so that I can be relatively awake in the morning. I feel like I might be gaining back some weight back. It's upsetting me a little.

I fell off the wagon!!!!

Hi Everyone,
My name is Kathy. I am pretty new. I am at about 173 and I WILL get down to 150. I am doing the LA weight loss plan for a little over a month. I have lost 11 lbs. It is a great plan, I just think I need to reevaluate my efforts. I have been cheating badly this weekend and I am now very very bloated and I feel really embarrassed to go in to get weighed. I cheated because my in-laws were in town and we were going out to eat a lot. It is hard to really control portions when you don't have your measuring cups and scale with you. I also drank tons of wine and it was my daughters birthday, so with all that going on, the weekend was pretty much a total diet loss. So I basically feel like crap now! I really need some encouragement.
I want the weight gone once and for all. I used to be pretty big, my highest weight was 275. I whitled my weight down to 145 while I was serving in the Marine Corps. Since I have been out I put on about 30 lbs. Now I am fighting to get back to where I was.
If I can encourage anyone, please let me know. I would like to be of help to anyone who needs it.
Have a great day everyone!

I want a buddy lol, i think im the youngest here though. I dont know how much weight i have lost or my current weight (scales suck) but it would be cool if i got some support, i still need to lose about a stone.
Oh yea you can email me, kurtf5@hotmail.com if you are interested.

:D Jessica way to go on the 15lb goal!!:D
I have a membership with curves and I love it! I havn't been since I moved down here, but now that I got my car back I will be going again! I joined so long ago I cant remember how much it cost to join, I know that monthly its about $30. sometimes they do a special where the initial join up fee if free or cheaper, each one has different sales so make sure you call around if you have more than one in your town, because after you join you can always move your membership to a closer one!(sneaky I know!)
I did pretty well yesterday, i still need to work on fruits and veggies, and smaller portions, but one thing at a time:rolleyes:
and Sara Marie don't get discouraged! I deffinatley know what it feels like to have those days where you just want to say screw it, and down a whole pint of ice cream or have fries with something instead of a salad. You're going to have days or weeks where you dont see the point of even trying, but try to remember why you were trying in the first place....can you remember your goal? I know I know, it sounds like a bad Dr. Phil impression, but I'm serious, you've done incredible so far right? so try to think of how far you've gotten, not how far you have to go.
put on a song that gets your blood pumpin' and puts a smile on your face, take a walk or a drive and clear your head of all the negetive thoughts that are taking over...today is a new day, and if today doesn't work tomorrow will!:D
we're here for you, remember that when you feel discouraged.....

JellyKat, I was in Anchorage most of the time I was there. We also hit up Kenai(sp?) and Denali. It was absolutely amazing!!! I'm in London for my job. (as a nanny). And I'm only going to Italy for vacation...but I wish I could move there! ;)

That's a great suggestion about the frozen veggies!! I will have to do that next time I go to the store. :)

I did really well yesterday. A little worse today (detailed in my diary) but it's not completely hopeless...I hope to keep things good tonight instead.

Gotta go...my battery on my laptop is about to die.

Yesterday I went to a few workout places around town to check out. I went to Curves first. It wasnt' at all what I expected. I don't know if it's cuz I live in such a small town but this Curves kind of sucks...lol. It was just one room so there is no privacy. There was about 8-10 pieces of equipment, which was set up in a very small circle. I guess you do each thing for 30 sec. then the music/intercom tells ya to switch. You just keep going around and around in a small circle. Is this how they all are? I absolutely do not think I could keep going around and around in the same tiny circle over and over again on the same 8 machines for a year. I think I would get so bored that I would stop going all together. I'm a bit of a hyper person. I need room... I need change.... I need to be able to do what I want to do and not what i'm told to do. My problem isn't the modivation to work hard and long it's that I lack modivation to get off my butt and actually go do it...lol. Once i'm there I am going work out and work out hard but getting there is another story...lol. I need to hire someone to come to my house at certain times and force me to go workout. If I was only rich...

After I went to Curves I went to the College here in town. It's a very nice College and the membership is pretty cheap compared to others. For $275 a year you get unlimited access to the weight room, racketball rooms, indoor pool, hot-tubs, sauna, tracks, you name it and they have it. It's really nice. Well, I just thought for sure that I would love it there. After I got all the info. on it I asked if I could go check out the weight room so I could see what all they had so I could decide if this is where I wanted to join or not. The gym was so packed full of young very skinny extremely pretty college kids. I couldn't believe how uncomfortable I felt. I've always been a very outgoing person... even at 300 pounds I didn't let it stop me from getting out there and hanging with the best of them. The entire time I was at the College I never once saw anybody that was even slightly overweight. The only people I saw that were even over 25 years old were the ladies in the office (and they were absolutely gorgeous.) When I was in the weight room they were all staring at me too which made it worse. I walked through real fast and got out of there. I can't believe it bothered me so bad but it did. I don't think I have the confidence to work out there.

So, I don't know what i'm going to do. I think I will go through the phone book and see what other kind of stuff is around here. I do live in a small town so there probably won't be much. I would love to find a dance class. Like maybe salsa dancing or something. That would be fun. I think there might be Yoga classes here. Has anyone ever done Yoga? I seems like it would be relaxing. I bet Yoga would benifit Sara cuz of her crazy schedule.

Jessica

that sounds like a good price for unlimited access to all that stuff! I say go for it! I've been to a thing before where it was like 10 machines, each one for 30 seconds. It wasn't Curves, but it was a spinoff of it. I actually loved it! But then I moved into my new apartment and there was a gym there, so I just decided to make do with that. ...big mistake. I never got around to it, cos then there were only like 3 machines!! ick...so anyway, how are you girls all doing today?? I've had an OK day...just gotta keep it up...

I think all this water is making me feel kinda bloated though. Are any of you feeling that way?

x
Monica

jessica, I can completely understand the uncomfortable feeling with the gym at the college! I can't do it. thats why i like Curves.

monica, I can feel bloated when I drink to much water, but you do get water in everything you eat. try drinking a non-caffienated iced tea or bottled flavored tea too!

I did pretty well yesterday, and so far today so..... yay me! my first weigh in is on friday so I'm hopeing.... we'll see:D

I want a buddy :(
