Weight-Loss
Can't believe no alcohol!
I don't drink during the week but at the weekends I like a pint of cider or 2!
Only one weekend though!
ughhhhhhhh!
No Chocolate, no cider, no biscuits! Whats the world coming too!

It's a CONSPIRACY I tell ya!! LOL LOL this is so fun!!! I love this challenge, because for me it is a HUGE control issue and therefore, makes me work hard for it!! :hurray: WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Todays the day!! GOod luck everyone!

Ok i have to ask i am cleaning the house top to bottom tomorrow (its not that dirty but i get one on my everynow and again)
Now does that count as ANY excerise at all?????? PLEASE

Gosh, I should have asked before I bought it...would you say Honey Nut Cheerios count as junk? I sure hope not. xD;;
I'm going to weigh myself a little later. Good luck, everyone!

HOney Nut Cheerios are not junk food. Neither is coffee--unless it's one of those coffee drinks that are full of fat and sugar--you know what I mean. I'm not talking about a cup of coffee with a splash of hazelnut coffeemate--I'm talking about those Starbucks type drinks that have 300+calories in one drink.

House cleaning counts as exercise if you are exerting yourself. I always sweat when I vacuum or scrub the bathtub. That would be exercise. Walking around slowly carefully dusting things isn't really much exercise. If it elevates your heart rate, it's exercise. I will trust you all to use your own judgement regarding this. :)

I just read this whole thread to make sure I didn't miss anything important re: the food talk..

I didn't see anything mentioned re: Reduced Fat Triscuits

I hope these are in the ok group bc I had them w/lunch!!

I'm so used to thinking of them as "good 4 you" but don't know if that's the case for the bonus challenge.?.

They are Whole Wheat - Reduced Fat - Baked - 3 g Fiber {1 serving = 7 Squares}

I of course don't want to "cheat" when updating my stats this evening! :leaving:

Thanks Kimberly!

I always have these around to "replace chips!"

Wow, I am glad I behaved today, as I did not even see this thread until tonight! Luckily, I have followed all the guidelines!

This one's a tough call. Ok, Triscuits are ok. But Pepperidge Farm type goldfish and other "cracker/biscuit" type things are not. This includes wheat thins--not ok. Wasa/Ryvita type things are ok.

May I be blunt my wonderful challenge friends? We're arrived at our respective weights by doing normal things like deep cleaning (including vacuuming, scrubbing mold off tiles, mopping). So if we're trying to burn more calories than normal, we dont want to fool ourselves into thinking that cleaning is something new that has been added to take off the excess weight. In other words, we became overweight while doing normal cleaning so its only extras that are really going to take off the weight. So to me, when you include cleaning as part of your exercise you're just cheating yourself. The current guidelines are calling for close to an hour of exercise almost every day just to maintain one's weight. So it could be self-defeating to include the cleaning as exercise, but I dont mind if people do it from a points stand point, it just doesn't make sense from a weight loss perspective. I hope no one takes offense to my mini rant.

:biggrinjester: LOL. Cita..

Nothing personal but I disagree. :hug2:

I have looked up what I do "personally RE: my cleaning methods."

"I" only count Scrub Cleaning Days.

It takes me 40 mins to vacuum my place and my heart is pounding and I sweat like a pig.

That counts in my books. :)

Sweeping/Mopping does the same thing.

As Kimberly stated, it wouldn't be right/fair to count the time dusting or standing in one place in the kitchen ; etc.

Any type of chore that has your heart pumping/sweating should count though.

On my scrub cleaning days counting the things that are worthy, I burn over 900 cals!

I'm also an OCD Clean Freak though and repeat things.

LOL

Glad to know the Triscuits are ok.

They are a staple in my home and I truly consider them healthy.

Especially since they replace chips & are baked and whole wheat. + RF.

I think it's fair to say that 1 serving per day should be the total amount to have during the bonus.

That is 7 squares.

I don't have an issue w/that & agree to it.

:)

I have a question about exercise...

I work with horses, and I can always count on working up a sweat. Like today, I groomed five horses, and worked up a sweat...does that count as exercise? It took me 2 hours to get them all clean! :D

An hour of exercise EVERY day just to maintain? I haven't exercised that much since I started losing weight, and I've lost 55lbs by exercising an avg of 3hrs per week. When I first started it was only 1.5-2hrs a week.

I personally don't count my housecleaning as exercise usually, b/c I don't do much of it at a time. I do bits here and there most of the time. But I don't blame Stacy for counting hers b/c she really does a lot of it and rather vigorously. I picture her looking like the Tasmanian Devil whirring around her apt like a blur....lmao.

Here's the problem I have with people counting housework and things like horsegrooming and such for their exercise points--it's light to moderate exercise in most cases, not vigorous exercise--which really helps one lose weight. I just think that most of us could find 5hrs of this type of "exercise" to use for our challenge pts. It's not really fair to those who spend 5hrs a week working it hard at the gym or at home on the treadmill, elliptical, etc.

So please don't use those types of exercise as the only exercise you do. Half of your weekly ex. pts should come from other traditional forms of exercise. :)

No offence
I agree and disagree now i dont want you thinking my house is a mess its not, but once a month i give it an darn good clean where it takes me all day scrubbing anything that keeps still long enough skirting boards, the bath, the cupboards, the cooker everywhere i can reach really,
I wouldnt count the hoovering, brushing, moping, i do every day (even though i do get my heart rate up) as exercise, as that as you say i have been doing for years just this really good clean
But i see your point and i dont think i will count it as i am planning on getting the gym afterwards anyway so i will just count that and get hubby to help with the cleaning LOL

Aah haaa mi amour! I now see why you were shocked at my 5 hours LOL. I meant any kind of moderate purposeful exercise that gets your HR up but that's ADDED to the other "lifestyle" things we're already doing and have been doing pretty much nonstop whether we were slim or heavy. The men would be baffled by this but all us women know we've been cleaning practically nonstop for years if not decades and have done so regardless of how our weight fluctuates. So my point is just that we need to be doing MORE to change our weights and stay changed for good. Since we like to eat and that'll never change completely even as our eating habits and metabolisms change, it'll be hard to keep up the dieting thing without doing lots of exercise.

But I personally dont think it has to be vigorous, though its all in how you define these words anyway; to me a brisk walk is moderate but was what I was talking about with the several hours of weekly exercise to maintain. Moderate exercise, and doing it for a long time, is viewed by some as the best way to get and keep off fat (from a few of the books I've been reading lately). Of course others disagree and think a vigorous effort is needed or that either works. But keeping in mind that the only walking a lot of people do is from the car to the door, some almost daily moderate exercise will be needed to maintain IMO.

Remember that was on a 277 lb body not a 168 lb body. Its not easy to maintain one's goal weight at first, after a while your body settles on your weight and it becomes easier to maintain. But I would definitely be prepared for some almost daily exercise to keep it off as the gung ho dieting mentality starts to wain and you want to eat a treat here and there.

I'm so not used to this!

I have never before realized how much Justin (my husband) influences me. Yesterday I did so well with the no bad food (even though school provides a real challenge-planning is 8-10 lunch is at 11, I have 10 minutes to eat and the microwave doesn't really work). I turned down absolutely the best looking coffee cake I have ever seen in my life!

But on the way to drop off a book I mentioned that because I was trying so hard to avoid bad food I was craving pizza. Anyway, I ate the pizza,

and wings,

and half a calzone!

Dang! But at least I stopped before I went all out. I know that's still a lot of food. But I've done worse. And I woke up and worked out this morning.

I learned that if you're on Biggest Loser and you cry every week you'll get more face time than if you're always happy.

And also that the easy strength workout is (gasp) too easy. I remember when I first started doing it and I laid on the ground willing myself to stay alive. I couldn't believe it.

I also thought it was longer. Only 30 minutes! It was an hour long in my mind...

Too funny...I did the same exact thing! I didn't feel like cooking last night - and mentioned to my boyfriend that the new Pizza Mia at Pizza Hut looked good!

Nevertheless..we ordered it! And I ate it! But I did check the Nutritional value and got green peppers and veggies on it...it has less calories than any other pizza they have. (210 per slice with the veggies)

I did feel okay eating it though, because my calorie total for the day was only 347 before eating the pizza..and I was feeling lightheaded.

I got up this morning and worked out as well...we're not perfect - and today is a new day! :seeya:

no sweat ladies (pun intended) as mentioned today is a NEW day.....

Keep up the good work

Weighing in on the debate: I think all the things we do in our normal routine are good ways to help us shed weight--if we alter them to do them more strenously, but still dont count as 'excercise' I realize they are but as I believe Blancita mentioned it needs to be excercise for the point of excercise in my book, everything else is great and a 'pat on the back' or whatever. I have thrown on ankel weights and cleaned my house at a run pace but I still feel that I need to 'excercise'. For instance if I were a postal delivery person I would not count that I excercised 6 hours a day because I walked around delivering mail all day. I dont really care if people are countin it for the point system so much as just the premise of the matter; I think those getting true excercise 5 hours will get a better reward in the end (improved health, weigh less etc).
