AussieGirl's Diary

May 7

This week has been just a BUST! At the beginning of the week I really thought that I was gonna do real good, eat better make better choices all that stuff. Turns out I really didn't make very good choices all week. :( I went to the gym only twice. And really I could have eaten much better. I REALLY need to get back on the wagon, this week I've been soo lazy, it's shocking! They've just opened a L.A. Weight Loss here in my city, and I'm looking into it, if anyone has ever used this program or know anything about it, please let me know! Ok, seriously now, this is my goals for the week and they HAVE to be met...
- 5 days or more at the gym
- NO fast food

That's only 2 fitness goals, I think it's atainable! :)

I got to the gym today, only 45 mintues, but hey it's better than no going right!! Otherwise, today's food hasn't been that bad, acutally I haven't eaten much yet. It's 10 pm, I had swim lessons with the kids, and than had to stop by the craft store for Mother's Day. I won't be getting to the gym tomorrow, unless I'm SUPER motivated, but that's the only day I can have off this week except for my regular Sunday off.

Today I got in...
30 minutes eliptical = 361 cal (would have gone longer but I went during 20 minute machine limit time)
10 minutes stairmaster = 97 cal

Food was bad, it's my friends birthday, we had Chinese and icecream blizzards!!:(

i had a giant beef teriyaki bowl today- don't beat yourself up to bad :)
Do you just punch in 10 minutes on the stepper? You should try upping it by two or three minutes a week just so you can get more use to it.
have a great day tomrorow!!

Hey Aussie, don't starve yourself. It's better to eat moderately al teh time then to eat nothing and then gorge on junk food.

Keep up the good work :)

May 11

Hey everyone!!
It's funny Jess, when I first started the stairmaster, I was doing 6 minutes at a time...that was all I could do!! All I do is type in the time I want to workout on it, and go from there. I have to admit, today I really didn't think I'd make it! I think because I only worked out like 3 times last week, this week I'm sort of having to "get back into the swig of things". I wanted to do 11 minutes but I just don't think I can do it yet! I also do have to work on my food better, tonight I need to cut an apple and red pepper to snack on tomorrow at work. Thanks for the reminder Jaho!
I have to write these numbers before I forget...
40 minutes eliptical = 470 cals
10 minutes stairmaster = 95 cals

I feel good today because I've lost almost 2 lbs since my last weigh in!!!!:D That's my exciting news...now if I can just keep going!!!

2lbs!! Yay! How exciting... I have my long weekend coming up, so I hope you have a fantastic weekend and kick ass on the stairmaster :D

May 23

It's been forever since I've been on the site, OR since I've been to the gym!! The past week and a half I've been sick, so I even gave away all my shifts at the clinic (my part time job)! I REALLY can't be sick, so I took all that time to recoop, and I think I'm doing much better, not 100%, but better. Soooo, as this is the last day of the long weekend, I did get to the gym, but first, I tried to go yesturday, I drove up and I thought it was closed, so I went home, and did some work on/with my exercise ball. Today, after my first shift at the clinic in over a week, I went to the gym, but could only drag myself to do...
35 minutes eliptical = 416 cal
10 minutes stairmaster = 85 cal

That's ALL I did, no weights AT ALL!! Pretty sad eh! And I almost couldn't do that!!! After like 3 minutes on the stairmaster I just about gave up!!! I guess because it's been so long, my body has to get back into it all. Plus when I was done, I walked into the change room and just had an awful coughing fit. It was very embarrassing, like I said I'm still not 100%. I guess I'm just glad I did something!!

Hope You Get To Feeling Better It Is Hard When Ya Feel Bad But You Can Do It Just Get Better First!!!!

Hi there, it seems to me that you have been doing really well. I wouldnt beat your self up because you werent at your usal standards at the gym. It can happen like that when you've been sick. You take your self out of the routine so you lose the flow a bit, not to mention how much energy it takes out of you being sick, it will most likely take a couple of days to get back intot the swing of things. But you should be really proud of the great progress you have made, so far. Keep it up.

sorry youwere sick :( but I'm glad you feel better :) lol
don't beat yourself up bout not doing weights, I have days like that to, where I'll do my cardio, and I KNOW I need to go work on my giganta-arms or thighs, but I say, screw it! I need a night of no weights...
anyways, glad your back- stay back this time, k>??!!! lol

July 5

Well, has it ever been a LONG time!!! First of all my computer was down for the longest time, and could only get on the site when I was working at the clinic. I'm not doing that great I'm afraid, I've gained about 1 1/2 lbs since I last wrote, but I'm not willing to change it on my scale thing. However, I have started going to the gym in the morning instead of at night, it's working real well, because I have so much more time this way. Just this week I realized what I needed to do was to switch up my cardio routine a little more, so I've been useing the "Random" setting heaps more than ever before on all the machines. Anyway, my goal is to lose 16 lbs by the end of August...wish me luck!!! :)

July 5 Update

Ok, so as I mentioned before, I didn't get to the gym this morning, so I got my ass out of the house this evening. I'm please to say I got in a total of 15 minutes of the stairmaster!!! For me this is a feat!! I also did other cardio and weights. I was going to go for a walk at the park after the gym, but it's a beautiful day, and a popular park, and if I would have went I could just imagine all the yells of "Fat ass" etc. so I decided not to bother. Anyway, I have a question for anyone who knows. I have friends who can burn HEAPS of cals on cardio equipment in the same time it takes me to burn like half of what they do. I know I could push harder, but when ever I check my heart rate it's as high as it should be, and even some times it's in the red marks. I'm not sure what is worse, not burning high numbers or burning muscle (or at least that's how it's been expained to me) If there's something I can do to keep my heart rate low enough, and burn faster please let me know!! Thanks so much!!!!

help guys

Im brand spanking new to this site and wanted to write an introduction to my diary post and cant seem to figure it out- please could someone help me by explaning how to use thi site- for posting and bloging and stuff.

From what I understand, keeping your heart rate in the target zone will burn more fat in the long run than going for higher calorie burn at a harder pace.

July 6

Thanks so much for everyone's comments. I reckon it's a tough one either way, but your probably right Cannon, I should stay within the heart rate range. Anyway, I didn't get to the gym today...sleep was too important to me, but I HAVE to go first thing in the morning otherwise the day will be awful...I'll be tired all day!!!! I'm pleased to say I didn't eat ANY bad food today, and same with yesturday. I always find myself saying "This will be the last cookie, chocolate...whatever it is" and there just is NEVER a last!:( If I can go about a week without any of it, it's not so bad, the cravings tend to go away. I wonder how long I'll last this go!!

heart rate

g'day aussiegirl

I was just looking through the diaries when I came across your name! Very similar to mine:) I get quite excited when I see other Aussies in the forum. We'll call you an honorary aussie:)

In answer to your question about heart rate and cardio intensity, doing resistance training as well as cardio will burn more calories. That is keep your heart in the target range for fat burning but also incorporate weight training as muscles burn more calories, this increases metabolism. The aim is to do longer duration cardio at lower intensity not vice a versa. Hope this helps.

I also have to fight the dreaded chocolate cravings. I've just started journaling my food, now that really is an eye opener! I'm trying to go 2 weeks without any chocolate care to join me:)
