, do you guys seriously believe that? Even if it was, so what? I still don't see a fundamental difference. Let's compare it to the laws against whites marrying blacks then. I believe these existed into the 50's in some states. At one point I'm sure there was overwhelming public support for those laws in the 20th century.
As far as saying the gov't shouldn't be involved, I can kind of see that except there are many areas where it's important: A spouse has certain rights regarding your medical care should you be incapacitated, your estate should you die, your financial information etc.
