Welcome to your team thread, TEAM GOLD!!!

I'll make this short and sweet: this competition runs till March 22, 10 wks. There will be a prize for the single member who loses the biggest percentage of weight. AND for the winning team that brings in the most overall points. ALSO, while I am asking that you post the number of lbs lost in your chart...that is for fun, its is only the % of loss that will count.

POINTS:
5 points for every % lost (please give yourself 2.5 points if at the end of the challenge you end up with a half % (1.5% =7.5points)
1 point for every 30 mins of exercise ONE HOUR MAX.
Points for mini challenges may vary.

Day 1:

I came in under calories today, I exercised for an hour today, and I'm going to bed hungry. My weight should be down in the AM as I have worked hard, eaten well, and had some, shall we say, digestive assistance.

Well done on the exercise both of you. Also on bringing your calories in at the right level.

I'll bet the rest of our team did all sorts of brilliant things too. It would be great if they posted what they have done.

As you know - I did my exercise.

My calories and food weight would be a little lower on Friday as I simply wasnt hungry at supper time so I decided not to bother with my regular supper time treat of blueberries and 0% Greek yoghurt.

No need for anyone to go to bed hungry. There are plenty good things for us to eat which bring our calories in at a level for amazing weight loss.

I will probably end up chatting about them a bit in this thread - just in case everyone in our team hasnt heard that they can boost things along...

For instance I boosted up my water to the calculated level of 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of bodyweight... I have been lazy about having it and only bothering to count that I have 2 litres.

Having the correct amount of water does help things.

Also - although I missed my supper time treat - I had a fair amount of skimmed milk and 0% yoghurt during the day (both of which contain calcium). I didnt check but I am pretty sure that I would hit my calcium target of 1000mg of calcium per day. Dietary calcium boosts weight loss too.

I was rewarded this morning with a lower number at the scales. I have lost 1 pound since yesterday. Lets hope that I can keep it down.
 
I have now done more than an hour of exercise for Saturday. 2.5 hours actually.

Firstly - we walked for 15 minutes.
Then we did an hour long salsa lesson.
It was a private lesson with our salsa teacher.

Our teacher has travelled the world teaching and dancing. LOL he has even danced in the Rio carnival!!!
We have a private salsa lesson every Saturday to work on our routine bringing in extra tricky moves...
This has been brilliant and brought Rod swiftly on from the beginner level and reminded me of things that I half remembered from a lot of Latin American dancing that I did when I was a child... I kind of forgot a lot of things in the two decades of severe morbid obesity...
We have five other dance classes (with other people) that we do during the week - and of course practice dancing...

Our teacher also happens to be a personal trainer and runs the most hard core Zumba classes that I know of. I have done Zumba with lots of other teachers and he puts us through the toughest workout.

Anyway - we did an hour of Zumba after that. It was full of high intensity stuff...

Then there was another 15 minutes walk to get us back home.

My step count is unlikely to get as high as yesterday. I am not planning on much more exercise today but at over 16,000 it is over the 15,000 limit that I set myself every day.

I did well yesterday. I started my detox....still doing it - it ends today...that means no solid food since lunch yesterday.
This is just a 24 hour thing - to kick start my diet - I normally do this 3-4 times a year.
I also managed to do some excercize - I found some body sculpting videos on youtube - & did 30 mins + some extra sit ups.
Plus went out for a walk for half an hour.

Maybe I shouldnt link to my main forum - so I will quote a posting of mine from there with tons of them in...

I love going to Zumba classes. I've been to three this week! each an hour long so that is a fair bit of exercise...

The music is so distinctive - but I only hear much of the music in the Zumba classes...

I've just started trying to track down my favourite Zumba tracks on youtube - so will link here those I find as I find them.

It will certainly give anyone an idea of what to expect at a Zumba class before they brave it into the room.

Different teachers seem to teach different steps to the same track so that tends to change from class to class...

I apologise to anyone that speaks the languages involved - but I don't and am bound to spell everything wrong...

I really like this link because the steps are almost identical to those I was doing at my class yesterday... lol the only real differences are that we do two extra sections of jumping jacks before they start doing them... then we kick to the side when we get to the Z-arms bit...

we do this track very similar to this clip - the differences being

- in the chorus bit when you move your arms in circles in front of you - we clap 2 or 3 times (it varies - but you can hear the time to clap) instead of looking like you are slapping something as it has on the clip - then we jump to turn 90 degrees - so we do that to the 4 sides...

- we start the hip circles a bit earlier about a minute before the end
- as soon as it goes "swari swari" and we bend our knees and slowly go downwards doing hip circles
- then we slowly rise doing the hip circles when he is saying "ariba ariba" etc

I really enjoy dancing to this track... We do it at the Zumba Boys North East classes. It really is lots of fun - but we don't do anything like they do...
It is a whole room free for all where you go where you like around the hall - just doing the same steps.

The steps are as follows:
right step / wiggle wiggle /
jump / wiggle wiggle /
ziggy (right rock forward on a diag across) zaggy (right rock back on a diag across) ziggy zaggy /
turn in a circle putting the right foot forward, step down with the left turning, step the right foot back, step down on the left turnng /
4 travelling steps in any real direction you like
repeat the whole thing for the whole track...

the steps are the same as we do - but at the walking round in circles times (you can hear the step beats distinctly) the teacher shouts "penguins" out and we had to step like penguins lol

lolol - when I went to the zumba class in Sunbury the teacher didnt shout "penguins" - and I was the only one who wanted to walk around like a penguin......

This Bollywood track is one that we use at ZBNE

It is pretty exhausting the way that we do it...

During the chorus you turn first to the right and go jump jump then hop hop hop hop (turning round to the left hopping on the same leg)
then to the left jump jump hop hop hop hop (turning to the right)
you continue that for the whole chorus - you can hear the beats to jump and hop on

The seperate verse is a bit more restful with stepping (a bit like Irish dancing with one leg bending a lot more than the other) and moving your arms up and down from head level to above for a few bars then moving your hands up and down in front of your chest while similarly stepping for a few bars - then repeat...

that chorus is so tiring though!!!

We actually do the killer arm thing to this slow record....
It may be an absolute slowdown compared to the rest - but you really feel your arms by the end.

Put your arms out totally horizontal and keep them there for ages doing little circles forward and back and wiggling your fingers. Every so often flap like wings in little controlled flaps and occasional big flaps up from there but keep going back to those little circles. They kill in the last minute...

I have found a track from January / February (when I was sorting out the house down south) of someone going to a ZBNE zumba class. Chris is my main zumba teacher......

The teacher in the final clip is the teacher who has just led me through an hour of zumba.
 
Justina - Well done for doing some exercise yesterday. Be sure that you count the time for those extra situps... The time all counts (up to 1 hour each day) towards our team's points. We want to be rewarded for all our hard work.

My friend Kara (used to be KaraCooks here) is firmly in favour of an occasional detox and the IF approach... I must admit that I do not do that kind of thing. The main reason is that I like my food too much... A few years ago, I was rushed into hospital for an emergency operation. I was "nil by mouth" for a couple of days - and my stomach believed that my throat had been cut... I was begging my husband to bring food into the hospital... I cooked myself a meal the minute I got back home...

Anyway I just thought that I would say that it is a recognised healthy approach to weight loss and should not be confused with the unhealthy diets that were prohibited for this challenge. I just know that a member of one of the other teams was mischievously implying in another thread that someone was doing that.

I can imagine that you will be looking forward to eating. Try to hit your nutrition targets when you do start eating... Our bodies need the right amount of protein, fibre etc to function well - and hitting those targets definitely help weight loss.

What exercise are you doing today?
 
342.8 this morning which is -2.2 from yesterday. I'm about to go get on the rump destruction device known as my spin bike.

I drink a ton of water most days.

In the field I try to drink as much as I can, but when it's cold out it is much more difficult to drink as much. In the heat of the summer I can drink 10 bottles of water for every time I need to go to the bathroom when doing tough field work. I think that will improve as there will be much less of me out in the heat this summer!

Last summer I worked from May through August on a proposed 62 mile pipeline system through a lot of rough terrain. One coworker blew out his knee on that project about a month in. I suppose I kept eating the same calories afterward and put on 40 pounds between August and December.

Well done Quercus on the weight loss.

My husband couldn't believe how much water he should be drinking - but after that he had health problems and needed to lose weight fast and was happy to do all that I had been suggesting... One thing is certain - it calculates out to a huge number for the bigger person.

We will soon get rid of those unwelcome 40 pounds that you gained.
 
I lost a lot of weight on this forum and actually got to my goal weight...

I became hooked on the challenges and did lots of them. I found the competitive aspect helped to keep me totally on track.

I actually maintained it pretty nicely too - but very few if any challenges on this forum were really appropriate for people that do not want to lose any weight. Things got so that there were no challenges here for me.

The last couple of years have been pretty tricky for me - in that my husband had to have 5 operations during 2011. This was particularly scary as his BMI was over 62 when he needed to have the first operation.
Then in 2012 we needed to uproot and move 300 miles as my parents are now 90 and 95 and I was worried about them (and finding the travel back and forth to be getting too regular and too onerous)...

It has been a tough couple of years and it isnt really surprising that I have gained some weight...

I decided that I want to knock my weight back down before it gets out of hand. Challenges are the best way for me - so I am here to knock off 40 unwelcome pounds too... I know that I will never get that done in the next 10 weeks though.
 
We'll stick this out and lose what we can Omega. When the 10 weeks is up you and I can compete with each other and hopefully others. I'll still have plenty to lose whe ni make my contest goal.

30 minutes spin bike. That really sucked. I need to eat as it's been >18 hours since I've eaten.
 
I will keep racing down the whole 40 pounds... You make sure you keep up with my exercise levels and we will make a great race of it. :) We will both be the real winners with over-clocked weight loss like you wouldnt believe...

Well done for doing the 30 minutes spin bike. Are you going to do 30 minutes of some other form of exercise and if so what?

First - you should eat something.

18 hours is a very long time to go without food.

I think that I went about 15 hours this morning and I was starving... I ate about 10pm last night and then simply wasnt hungry so didnt have my blueberries and yoghurt later on...
My morning was pretty constant exercise from not long after I got up - and I couldnt have faced it after food. The good thing is that exercise triggers metabolism in the same way that people often talk about breakfast doing that - so exercise first thing is quite good.

By the time my zumba finished - and I walked home I was absolutely ready to eat. I had a lovely big bowl of weetabix, sweetener and skimmed milk.
