It's good for women too :) "they" say it helps access your fat stores better than plain cardio, that you would have to do for at least 20-30 min to get to the fat, well its what they say anyways i dont know im no expert i just like it better :)

i was just saying that guys are more into bulk and muscle definition, so we find it more important so as not to lose any muscle we've built up ...

Protein shakes

I like this one and it is very filling:

1 cup of skim milk
handful of oatmeal
1 packet sugar free hot chocolate powder
1 teaspoon peanut butter

Process in blender and add crushed ice. It is like having a chocolate malt!!

protein shakes

hi i was reading a interview with beyonce and it was about her new slimmer body for the new film dream girls she had a diet of protein shakes and fish and lost 14lbs!! i thought protein shakes was for weight gain does anyone know which protein shakes to try?

Hmmm...well, I'm sure a lot of people will disagree but just to give you another point of view...I'm not really for protein shakes, supplements etc.

We really do take in more protein than we need (of course there are always exceptions such as athletes etc.). Here's some info I highlighted in my textbook.

According to the American Council On Exercise: "The principal role of protein in the body is to build and repair body tissues, such as muscles, ligaments and tendons. Protein is also important for the synthesis of hormones, enzymes, and antibodies, as well as for fluid transport and energy.
Contrary to popular belief protein is NOT a primary source of energy except when you don't consume enough calories or carbs. If you consume more protein than the body can use, the excess amino acids may be stored as fat. Available research suggests that an active adult only needs about .8 - 1.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight."

Probably more info than you wanted!!! LOL Sorry!
I'm just on one of the nutrition chapters this month and the info is floating around in my head! =)

well the protein shakes havent done beyonce anyharm if she can lose 14bls then so can i!
if anyone does have some helpful advice on this please help thanks:)

Soya protein is much more healthier to use as it does not contain animal protein.

Protein comes in the form of meat, soy products, cheese and dairy products. However, most of these are in the form of animal proteins, which add greatly to the bad cholesterol in our bodies. Therefore we need to look for high quality proteins, in our diet, from non-animal sources.

Sitting – 0.75 grs per kilo(2.2 lbs) of body weight
Active - 1.0 grs per kilo;
Ball sport – 1.0 to 1.5 grs per kilo;
Endurance – 1.5 to 2.0 grs per kilo
Bodybuilding 2.0 grs per kilo

A lot of people use whey protein when losing fat and are very successful. It's not just for building muscles. That's a myth. Certainly not a neccessity for losing weight though. And soy protein helps with building muscle as well. They are both excellent sources of protein. It's just a matter of preference. I choose whey because soy upsets my stomach.

Research does not indicate that whey protein will increase cholesterol. Most whey proteins are very low in fat. Saturated fats are strongly linked to increasing our cholesterol, moreso than the cholesterol in food.

Hope that helps!

You can get protein powder anywhere. walmart/krogers/piggly wiggly's/albertsons/winn dixie/target/anywhere. it contains about 30 grams of protein each scoop they suggest adding 8 oz's of milk, but who drinks 8 oz's of milk? double it up. although i heard your body can only process 40 grams of protien within an hour. how correct that is i dunno

protein powder fast? good/bad?!?!

What do you think about those protein powder fasts? You only have protein powder and water for 2 days?? Do you think it screws up your metabolism or could kick start it to get moving!????

Oh I'm sure people do it and lose a few pounds, but that is NOT a long term solution. Our bodies need healthy foods! Depriving our bodies of what they need for survival is never a good idea.

There are people who swear by every fad out there....but most people who try fads like this end up with their metabolisms lowered and they end up gaining back the weight they lost and then some. A healthy nutrition program without depriving the body of what it needs is going to be much more beneficial in the long run. And it won't make you feel like utter crap for 2 days.

Yup, it is definitely NOT a long-term solution. As a matter of fact it is quite difficult to undertake it even as a short-term diet. Staying on just pro powders is tough.

If someone eats only natural foods (meats, fruit, vehhies, etc) and trains with weights as well as does cardio or walking often enough, he/she won't have problems with excess bodyfat.

Say yes to Protein

But first say yes to drinking more water! Do you know how much you should be drinking? Take your body weight in pounds. Divide it in half. That is how many ounces of purified water you should be drinking! Try to stay away from "spring Water" - it can be from anywhere - including your faucet. Purified water, Fiji water, Smart waters are all better choices!

As far as protein - it depends on your goals. But if you are looking to lose weight you should be getting adequate protein to build muscle. This may seem high but take your body weight, again in pounds, and multiply it by between .60 and 1.09 - and that is how many grams of protein you should get each day. The higher side is for increased muscle, of course. And remember that proteins are found in other places besides meat - like beans. Check the labels. And protein shakes are great too - I am an Isagenix person (no I am not trying to sell you) but they have the best shakes I have tried.

When people hit platues the first thing to do is to increase the protein intake.

Hope this helps.
