Weight Watchers

I love Weight Watchers. You don't have to eat anything weird, you decrease your calorie intake gradually, the point system really makes you think about what exactly you are eating every time you open your mouth. Plus there is room -- if you want a treat, go ahead. Count it in your points and move on.

Sometimes the meetings drive me crazy...the leaders' chatter can be inane...and just once I would like to have a discussion about the "side effects" of dieting. I agree, though, that it is important to go to the meetings and keep yourself surrounded by people with the same goal...its motivational as well as encouraging.

i did not like it..The flavor was not very good...

I'm on the weight watchers program to get me warmed up, I plan on doing it for several months then stepping up my game. I'ts perfect for me for now because I'm way to scared to go to a gym or trainer right now because my self esteem is soooo bad. I like how I can track everything, but it's only my second day and already I am finding flaws in the program.

I'm not overly impressed with the points system, I think it has many loopholes and I feel it can be easily manipulated. I also feel that WW doesn't provide many educational tools for proper nutrition or exercise. I do however think that they have some nice recipies, and that part is a nice added benefit.

The Flex Points plan I am on is all about reducing calories and fat intake, regardless of what those calories are, which I find to be it's largest fault. There are ways of actually consuming more junky calories with the points system than one should and yet my healthy diet with clean foods pushes the points limits but is low on calories. These loopholes are what bother me about the program.

Hi---just wondering if there is anyone still following the Weight Watchers Program? I found the thread, but will be following the program at home on my own (have all the material) and once I get the momentum back, I will reconsider rejoining the group in town here...but I weigh more then I did when I left there, and for me that would be too hard emotionally...but I NEED to stick with it. So I went shopping today and will be making the soup tomorrow...chopping and cleaning veggies and fruit and following the CORE...I seem to enjoy the freedom of that one...and if I feel like I am slipping, then I'll switch back to the points.

My question is...what plan are you following? are you doing in at home on your own or on the computer? or attending meetings in your area? How are you doing? Do you have any new info?

Looking forward to losing the weight once and for all...Can't wait to talk to you...Thanks VG

Howdee!
I am familiar with WW myself, having joined 2 times over the past 3 years. I have been doing it from home, kinda in conjuction with an online program thru SELF magazine. I have been using points system, but have done CORE in the past with positive results. As you know, the program works . . when it's followed lol. For me, the first week is always successful, its the following weeks that are trying, but I feel if you can get thru them,(over the hump) it does get easier and you start to make new habits and routines.

I found these boards about 8 weeks ago and I must tell you, I have never been more motivated and focused in my life. The challenges especially have greatly contributed to my success, and the new friends I have made have been great support!

We all know the science of weight loss- eat less, move more. It's the getting that in your head with out a constant struggle that is the work! We all have our demons, but wiht hard work and patience, success can be yours!

Good Luck!

ww

I Joined on sept.29 two weeks ago and have lost 8.2 lbs so far. im doing the points program and finding it easy with many points leftover in the day! and the best part is i am not hungry.i also excercise daily and i find that helps too.

I absolutely love the Weight Watcher's program. In June of '06 I became a lifetime member after having lost 75lbs. Unforunately my old habits returned and I've put back 55 of those 75lbs. When I go off, I go off the deep end. I'm trying to break that habit once and for all.

I'm once again back to the points system, doing it on my own at home and it's going wonderfully. Right now I'm too embarrassed to go back to the meetings until I get back to my goal weight. Not only was I a memeber but I worked for Weight Watcher's as well as a receptionist. Everyone knows me there and it's very hard to face them at the moment.

Just stick with it and you will see positive results. It definitely works.

V.

Jenabby, that's awesome...congrats. Keep up the great work...

I have been thinking about rejoining now, but want to get below where I was when I left, which is almost 20lbs now...argh...but I am seriously thinking about joining online??!! Have you heard or know of anyone who does it online? what do they think?? I start officially today, bad time to decide to start on a friday...lmao (another excuse, I know) but I got everything ready to go for the morning...chopped all my veggies and fruit, made portion sized baggies and I'll be making the soup in the morning...but I did go to the gym Saturday and SUnday and I will try for something physical every day!

Hey I'm doing WW too!

Not going to the meetings tho, flying solo.. well more like trio.. 2 friends are doing it too.

If you need help with anything I can try.. just PM me or whatever :)

This my 3rd week on WW. I weigh in at lunch today. Last week I lost 3.6lbs. I am on the flex points system. I have to say that I just love this. I don't even feel like I am on a diet. I can eat whatever I want and just subtract points. It is great. I am learning that if I choose fattening stuff that is bad for me then I use up a lot of points but if I choose healthy foods then I have a lot of points left and I can eat a lot of good food. I also love that when I exercise I get points back. The meetings are great too. What a great bunch of men and woman who are all there for the same reason. I had lost about 40lbs on my own but I wanted to learn to eat healthier and have a good system. I still have about 50 or so more pounds to lose and once they are off the goal is to keep them off and I think with the tools I learn in WW that I can make this happen. I was so excited about the program that my friend joined last week. She says the same thing, how easy it is. I do mine at work (Weight Watchers at Work) so that makes it even easier. My things that have helped are that I quit eatting after 7pm and I weigh myself often to keep me on track. Some people say that is not good but it motivates me everytime I lose a pound and if I gain a pound then I know to eat really healthy that day and it always helps. Good luck to all of you.

Lally and Jellybean...congrats on finding people and sticking with it. I know the support is a MUST and that's why I came to this site. I've now been following my plan for 2 days and so far, so good. I start a new job, and that's where I am a little worried, as we have our meals with the residents (I'm a Child & Youth Worker) and its a family themed work environment so I'll just have to make sure I bring healthy snacks or make healthier choices! But its a worry or concern of mine...
My husband and I talked last night, and he wants to shed some weight too and if we are down in weight by Christmas time, in lieu of gifts for one another, we'll book a romantic getaway in Dominican or Mexico?? hmm...talk about motivators...but anways, Its gonna be a long road, but I can faintly see the light at the end of the tunnel.

So ladies, my question is...do you use the diary on line here? Is there a thread somewhere to discuss more WW ideas? How's the work program work? I wonder if that's something the staff would be interested in at my work?? hmmm

I use the WW online tools to keep track of my points. That way I can do it from work and home. Other sites I like too are they have a good tracking tool. I also go to it is an awesome site for WW people who eat out so you can prepare ahead.

I find the snacking part to be hard too. At work it is easy just to not snack, it is when I go home that I have to exercise saying no. My husband is a real snacker. Last night I almost got him talked in to joining WW with me.

I don't know about a specific site for WW forum but that would be cool too. I need all the support I can get. I love the forums because they are so motivating. If you find something please let me know.

Good luck to you and just plan ahead during the week for your snacks at work. Don't just go day by day becuase that is when you eat the wrong things. If you plan it out then you are more likely to succeed.

Thanks for the advice, its truly helpful...just one catch we have to prepare and cook the meals and eat the meals with the residents. But yesterday and today I am brining my own 'snack food' (raw veggies, apple, grapes) and opt to drink LOTS and LOTS of water so it fills me up rather then the food prepared. I will bring my own snacks, in fact I pre-bagged them this week. :jump:

I am thinking about joining WW online, is it very expensive? I have all the books so I am following core,(again I like the freedom and know Breads/pasta/rice are my downfall and know I always take just a little more then a cup etc...even if measured, I just LOVE them too much. I just need to buy a scale as I am just going by how my clothes fit and the ones I want to get back into fit...I can do them up, but they don't look good..kinda like a sack of potatoes...LOL...:eek:but its a start. what are you doing for cardio?

N E WAYS, I have MSN, its my e-mail addy so if you send me yours in a PM I can add you, don't really want my e-mail out there...if you know what I mean??!! Well I gotta run and get ready for work, workin 2-10 tonight...take care, we'll talk soon! Bye:eh:

Any weight watchers advice???

Hello, my name is Shannon and I need to lose about 50 pounds. I have heard about weight watchers thru co-workers and have been taught about it. They gave me an extra journal, calculating tools and I purchased some books online. I have tried everything under the sun and I am really hoping this works. I am wondering if anyone has any tips??? I am also wondering if from experience, has anyone lost more weight incorporating the exercise part or is it about the same. Thanks in advance for anyone’s advice.

the biggest factor in losing weight - is using more calories than you consume...

no magic

all you need is a means to keep track of your calories and there are 100s of free calorie counting sites on the web...

adding in exercise allows you to eat a bit more.

read the stickied threads around the forum,y ou'll gain lots of valuable information

Weight Watchers works if you stick to it and follow it. I have done it since January of this year and today I hit my 100 pound weight loss. It does work. You should probably attend a couple meetings though to get you started.

Im a big fan of weight watchers. Like any weightloss program it does take motivation and dedication. Have lost 40+ lbs using the system. I have never gone to a meeting and never will... not my thing! I have done the online system. But now I know all the tools I need to know and do it on my own. As far as exercise goes, I lost most of the weight without much exercise. However, I do highly encourage you to exercise atleast for your overall health. I have since started working out 5-6 days/week, both cardio and strength training.

I have always been weary of points-based systems, especially for the long-term.

Am i wrong or do they basically say you can guzzle as much diet soda as you like, but place a high amount of points on omega rich foods like oily fish and nuts? :banghead:
