Just a hi Jennie . Hope house going well x

Happy 2019!!!!!

Sorry I fell off the face of the internet ... I'm such an "all or nothing" person that if I can't write in the diary for 1 day, then it like turns into months!

In my weak defense, I have been pretty occupied with other things: moving into the new house, setting up house, holidays, odds and ends for new house, blinds, fence, vibrating floors, dimmers, decor! Things have finally settled down.

The holidays kinda got away with me on the eating and I put on about 7 lbs, but I've taken them off and I'm back at square 1: 177 lbs. I changed my gym membership a few weeks ago. I'm going to Planet Fitness now. It was a good decision because it re-motivated me as I was a bit tired of the Y. My workout schedule is M-W-F. Here's what I did yesterday:

Still having love/hate relationship with stairmill ... Planet Fitness has this 30 min full body circuit that I'm really loving. Plan is to do the circuit until my birthday (March 4th) then I'll figure out a new training routine. Food-wise, I'm back on the Whole 30 wagon.

So today, I'm going to call a few real estate firms and set up interviews. I've been thinking on this whole work thing for a while. Do I want to work? I don't have to... but I kinda want something for myself. I want to feel like I can support myself. So I'm just going to do it part-time and see what happens.

Other than that, I have to see my therapist and get my hair done today.

Have a beautiful day everyone!

Good morning! ...

As for diet/exercise, I have eliminated chips and crackers completely. I had started binging a little on them since I quit sugar back in Feb. I'm pretty much allowing myself anything else right now except - sugary deserts, chips, crackers. My weight is 178.

Went to the gym yesterday and really pushed myself on the stair mill. Heart rate was about 150-180 for 20 mins. I must be in better shape because the stair mill does not kill me like it used to. I've also been walking the dog 3 miles in the woods. I'm curious to see how increasing exercise and eliminating these binge foods will affect the scale.

Have a great day all!

it's interesting to read some of these diaries which have been going on for a year or more. i have to add that i certainly did not read all 23 pages, but skimming through the first and last few, i managed to pick up your general progress. first of all, congratulations on apparently sticking to a routine for over a year with overall positive results. your statement above about quitting sugar and snacking is something i started off with from day one (especially evening snacking!) of my recent loss and i'm sure you will continue to see progress based on that decision.

best of luck in 2019.

Nice to hear from you, Jenni! How are you feeling in/about the new house?

Oh I'm really loving it so far! Our yard is mud but I'm looking forward to a landscaping project this spring!! We are completely settled in now, though, and the biggest stress for me is the old house and getting rid of it. So far I have barely been over there or done anything with it ...

Hey, thanks! I have been on and off with the gym, mainly do to some health issues, but I enjoy the workouts and they are good for me as much mentally as physically. I've been off sugar since last Feb, but unfortunately, the other snacks crept back in. I'm doing Whole 30 right now, and giving it another go on eliminating the other junk foods!

Mind over Munch (Youtube) is doing Whole 30 this January. (Again, I think.) If you´re looking for inspiration she´s always a good bet.

this seems a lot like a ketogenic diet keeping carbs low to maintain a low insulin to glucagon ratio. i intermittent fast and try to skip or keep carbs very low on alternate days. there are still some things like oatmeal that have too good an impact to discard completely. i do use a sweetener in black coffee and iced tea, sodium saccharin (Sweet 'n Low)... in very small quantities... and it does not seem to trigger an insulin response in me. of course you can read arguments on either side of sweetener use. i don't eat much fruit aside from berries occasionally and maybe one large piece, an apple or orange a day, but not every day. i found avocados to be a better source of potassium than bananas, keep much longer and also a good source of fat calories... a win-win-win.

good luck staying away from the scale... i can't do it! ... :)

Hi, Jen. It's nice to get an update. Your home sounds lovely & I'm glad you have settled in nicely. 7 lbs on & 7 lbs straight off again? Excellent!
You sound very motivated & positive. I'll soak some of that up :)

Glad to see you back Jenni. I agree with Cate - you must have got rid of those 7 pounds very fast. Please share your secrets with us. :D No sugar probably helps!

Hi Jen! All you're doing with your house sounds great! We still haven't finished all the little things like we don't have about half of our light fixtures in some rooms. Are you planning on being the realtor who sells your old house? That's awesome that you lost the 7 pounds again!

In a few days my kid goes back to school and I will get the two pounds back off that I keep gaining back and losing for like a month! I'm at 182 right now and want to get down to 160 and see if that will be my new low weight. I need to start calorie counting again, and would love company in getting the last pesky pounds off! I tried squats and things and am very sore now, so couldn't keep up with you exercise-wise, but do want to get some basic routine started.

Really nice to see you back!!

Hi Jenni welcome back . Hope you are settled in your new house now . You seem to be doing great with the weight . School back here today so back to normal now I think

I did check out her channel, thanks! The vid I watched wanted me to subscribe to something to get the whole shabang.

Probably more similar to paleo. Keto is way lower carbs than W30. I can still eat fruit and starchy veggies. But no dairy, processed foods, and only olive oils and such. I never do it super strict. I still use Splenda in my coffee. If I go out to eat I order meat and veggies, but I'm not too concerned about if they use this oil or that on the meat, but I will stay away from the sauces. I actually prefer berries over most other fruits, so I'm good there, but have the occasional orange or apple.

It's funny cause we moved and I lost a few pounds, then gained like 7, LOL, but yeah it must have been soft fat (as opposed to hard?! I dunno) Haha!

Haha! I am still off the sugar!! Next month will be a year since I've had a cookie, slice of pie, brownie, ice cream, fudge, cinnamon roll, cheese cake, donut ... you get the point, lol. It's has not been a piece of cake! (very bad pun) but I am glad I've stuck with it because the weight is easier to manage, definitely.

Yes, the plan is for me to sell our house once I start working ... it will save us a bit of money and pay for the class and test, for sure! The house is pretty much done, although there's still a few punch list items and the landscaper is coming today!!! I'm super excited about that. :)

I think it would be great to buddy up for the last 20 or so pounds. I want to get in the 150's this year. You have done really great with your weight loss, btw. What are you thinking for the routine?

This probably sounds terrible, but it's such a sigh of relief to me when the holidays are over and life returns to "normal."

I was locked out of the site on Friday and Saturday! Was it just me? Anyway, I did my workout on Friday, but not going to post it because I did one today, so what's the point.

Today was a good workout. The stair mill almost killed me. Some days are harder than others on that contraption, and today was a hard one where I had to bribe myself the whole time just to finish. One of my yearly goals is to burn 1,000 total cals during my workouts. So far, so good. I am slowly creeping higher and higher. Today was a new record: 717 calories.

Here's what I did today. Each lift is 3 sets. I'm trying to vary the reps because if it's 10 or 12 on every machine, it takes me forever to finish it.

Hi Jen! I am thinking of starting an every other day weight routine (mostly resistance at first) using my hubby's over the door resistance pulley thing that works the upper body and doing 3 sets of really basic push up type resistance both frontwards and backwards and doing 50 sit ups (I can do 50 now, but they are very shallow sit ups) and plank for now. I'll do as many squats a day as I can without getting too sore, too - not many yet. After I am not so sore doing these, I think I'll add in hand weights again. Also every other day I want to get at least a half hour walk or some form of aerobic exercise in. If I don't do either, I will work in the garden digging and pulling invasive vines, which can burn off a ton of calories if I have a good day doing that. So I'll aim for 5 days a week doing this. (I think I'll paste this on my diary, too, so I can find this again!) Also I want to picture the last 20 pounds coming off with no putzing around sort of cheating and all that little stuff that undermines steady weight loss. I want to just go for it and want to not let myself make little excuses for why I am postponing getting healthy. So I am going to really working at this and not let myself get distracted.

I like your idea of shooting for a number of calories to burn off each day. When I get more in shape, I think I will try that!

The forum has been crashing around Christmas, and at New Years it was especially bad - it was down for a couple of days straight at one point. Now that everyone has made their new years resolutions, hopefully things will calm down and stop crashing!

Hope all goes great with selling your old house and landscaping the new one! Would love to see pics when you get the landscaping started! I have been studying landscaping now that I am clearing my flower beds. It's so fun!!

Here's a few things you might consider adding for lower body so you're not stuck with just squats all the time: step ups on a chair or stool, stationary lunges, body weight bridges, clamshell exercise, body weight donkey kicks ... I think step ups are a GREAT exercise for resistance and some cardio. They just work the entire lower body.

I'm with you on the farting around that stalls weight loss. I swear, I can procrastinate anything! In a way, though, I'm glad it's been slow because at my age (43), the skin just doesn't snap back like it used to and fast weight loss does not look very good!

If I can hit the 1000 cals burned by 2020, I'll be a very happy camper. I don't really want to increase the time I spend at the gym, just the intensity.

I'll definitely do before/after landscape pics!

Thanks so much for the lower body exercises! I'll look them up and try them!!

Wow, 1,000 calories burned sounds totally amazing. I managed 800-something calories one day digging huge holes and hauling rocks, but I was exhausted for 3 days afterward! I am 53 and the intermittent fasting shrunk most of the excess skin from losing 40 pounds in 7 months (I lost 10 pounds before Cate's weight loss challenge, so 40 in all).

Here's to really focusing and getting the last of the pudges off!!!

Reps should be based on your goals, what are your current goals ? Also, more compound movements would produce a more time efficient workout.

I think more people feel like that than you'd think. Holidays can be extremely stressful. I find it overly emotional myself.
