Water flushes out salt
Hi guys.. I've read a bit about this topic. Water does help you loose weight, yes. In the short term drinking water helps your body eliminate salt and other minerals or toxins. That in turn allows the body to STORE less water. Without sufficient water intake, the body decides that it needs to hang on to what it takes so it stores water, which makes you heavy. So by drinking sufficient water during the day, you will eliminate more water and the lbs on the scale drop. That's short term.
In the long term, drinking enough water still helps you loose weight/fat, but that's a less proven theroy. The theory I read is that by eliminating toxins, your body is freed to use more of your food energy on activity, so you dont feel lethargic, and you use move more, are more active. Also, if you dont know your body well enough, you can confuse thirst with hunger. So you imolicitly eat less. Even more, by eating foods high in water content like fruits and veggies, you will feel full faster, with less calories intake. it works for me, I eat only fruit in the monring (check out my food journal at ) according to this theory/diet called Fit for Life, and I manage to stay full and satisfied until lunch with roughly 300calories - and thats a lot of fruit I eat. Still, it;s yummy, and the high water content in them does wonders.
While it is important to drink water, there IS such a thing as water poisoning. Althogh life-threatening, it's very rare, and it can happen if you really force yourself to drink lots of water. Keep in mind that a lot of the water you get is from food, so you dont have to drink as much. A gallon sounds a bit much, but I've heard the 8 glasses of water a day (again, you wont actually drink all 8 glasses, because you get some of it from your food intake).
Well, hope this helps
