Velocity Diet-Thinking about doing it

So far I've dropped 23lbs and 5.3% body fat in 3.5 months and I'm happy with those results. But hey we all want results now right? Well I'm thinking about trying out the velocity diet for a month and post my progress pics every week. My question is has anyone done it before? How hard was it to stick to? I'm really not sure if i can do this for a month but the results seem worth it. And if I post it on the site I'll probibly be more inclined to stick it out. I'm looking for feedback before I decide, so let me know what you think.

From what I have heard it is pretty hard to do.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to complete this diet. Most diets are designed for a small and steady decrease in body fat. This is designed to rip off up to a pound a day from your body. You can check out Chris Shugart's outline for this diet for more info.

Yeah, I've not met a single person in my time as a trainer that has successfully completed this diet.

Slow and steady wins the race. Maintaining a proper diet based upon nutrition factors and caloric deficit is the best way to go here. It may take longer to shed the pounds this way, but it's also the healthiest and most likely to prevent relapse.

You must work with a bunch of wussies ;)

I know a few people who have done this, including myself. Honestly, it is HARD. The taste of the shakes made me sick, too. By the end of it I thought if I ever drank Metabolic Drive again I would explode into bloody bits.

what kind of results did you get?

I gave it a shot but it sucked. I actually ate two meals each day as well. I know one person who said that Metabolic Drive is definitely the best protein shake for it though.

Would I seee less results if I was to eat 1 whole meal a day, like chicken breats briccoli and a sweet potatoe or some beans?

Nah, just trained back in college, where pizza, beer, and late night snacks were ever present :).

Not to hi-jack your thread, but i've been toying around with this idea myself. Problem is, I travel 2 weeks out of every month and there is no way i could get that much protein, pills, and flax through customs/security.

Does anyone have any ideas how effective this would be if I were to go 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off (eat clean and at a deficit), 2 weeks on, then transition??

yah I thought about that. So I'll only do one meal a week. I was going to stick to the protien powder he suggested, but does anyone know if it tastes good? He said it does, but does anyone have any ecperience with some powder that would work that tastes good?

I think it was orange popsicle or something that everyone was raving about. Wait for Derwydon to come back on, I believe she has used Biotest.

I was using Nitrean but it still wasnt casein enough. I would either go with the Metabolic Drive or create your own mix at trueprotein.com

I'm just curious, but if you really want to see results...(i.e loose the weight and keep it off) why not do it right? This isn't by any means a healthy way to loose weight or gain muscle......

So, what's the rush???

Exactly. Doing the calculations, the OP was losing a healthy 1.6 pounds of fat a week.

My biggest beef with this plan is that while the t-nation guidelines have all the macronutrients covered, micronutrients are all but missing from this flash diet. Sure you can get some of those from more vitamins, but the best way to retain those micronutrients is through real foods.

I'm also not too hot on the amount of metabolic boosting agents going on here. Just because it isn't ephedrine doesn't mean that it's necessarily any safer. I haven't seen significant legitimate research on the long term effects of most metabolic supplements currently on the market, so going and mixing a bunch of them, while on a flash diet, doesn't really seem like a good way to go. I could be wrong and the supplements recommended may be as safe as ever, and if I am, then nevermind this paragraph.

Like I said earlier, this diet may get you there, but I still think it is better to work from a nutritious caloric deficit than something as drastic as this.

Couldn't agree with you more.....

It's completely unrealistic for anyone to do this "diet" and expect to retain whatever results you *may* get from it. ( if you don't get sick first....)

You can't live life in this (like your going to walk into a restaurant and order a plate of "metabolic drive"???), and it does teach you anything about balanced eating, so it is inevitable that it will fail.

Personally I don't take any supplements except a daily multivitamin because I have severe food allergies and HAVE to supplement.

I eat food, I don't guzzle protein drinks, hydroxycut, creatine, etc... or any of that other crap because if I can't get it in my general food intake then either I'm not eating right, or I shouldn't be eating it at all....

just my opinion......

Cheers
Diane

It isn't unhealthy either.

It's a 28 day diet and after the diet you slowly start transitioning back to real foods.

if you don't believe me head over to t-nation.com and check out their phyisque clinic

I'm not living life like this, it's a 28 day experiment. I also don't like diet pills and will not be using them. When it's over I'll go back to eating clean like I always do. I'm just using it as a means to finish getting my body fat to about 12% then I'm going to bulk.

You cant' do it without the pills, really. 1) you will be so hungry you will eat yourself 2) you will lose more muscle then you should

It really sounds like this isn't for you for many reasons. Take on a more moderate diet.

What makes you think you lose "more muscle " than you should on the V-diet than on a regular calorie deficit?
