I'm following Wendler's 5/3/1 program with the bodybuilding variation. I'm not really into bodybuilding but as I've never followed a BB orientated program before I thought it would be a good learning experience

The program is based around 4 key lifts, bench, deads, squats & military press and you train 3 days a week alternating the lifts you perform. As I'm training M/W/F for this and there are 4 lifts I'll be doing 2 upper days this week and 2 lower days next week

I was a little worried about dropping down to 3 days a week but the change has really taken it's toll on me and I need the longer rest periods

I just hit the sauna today; I'm hurting everywhere so needed a bit of recovery help

I'm thinking that I might need to rethink my nutrition with this training program; I feel like I won't be able to keep up with it while in a deficit. I'm thinking of adding some high calorie days in around training days

Wow, my quads still hurt like hell from Wednesday!

Today’s training
Bench
5x 165
5x 176
5x 187

Dips
4x8 @ BW (still too fat so finding them difficult)

Fly (machine)
2x12 @ 139
2x12@ 123

Tricep pushdowns
3x20 @ 110 (I think, might have been 121)
16x 110

What I’m learning here is that I need to take a book in with me to track the weight I’m using!!

Memory loss from that old age :p

What are you bench numbers like now anyway, what do you think you could max?

Not sure, I think it’s still around 220 but I’ve always benched like a ****y, I’m hoping the wave loading thing will break that plateau. I’ve never really placed much emphasis on benching which could explain why it’s so poor

I hear ya on the benching. I was up at 5x5 with 100kg, now I'm doing tripples at 90kg :( mostly because I lost my belly while dieting, so I have a larger ROM and I'm not getting it fast enough off the chest. I'm planning on adding benching with a stop at the bottom to fix the problem.

Iv noticed that your lower bodys lifts e.g squatting are better in proportion to your upper body. Am i right in saying that?

Im at about 220x1 only recently started going for my 100kg lift. But i also, suck at benching.

Yeah, I did mention that earlier in this thread; as I’m dropping weight and muscle is showing through more, it’s becoming very obvious that my lower body has progressed faster than lower body. It might just be that my upper and lower body respond to different things, like high weight for lower and high rep for upper.

As for your bench stalling; try isometric press up holds, it worked for me before

I suck at squatting, but lower body pulling is pretty strong. Squatting sucks partly because I'm not built for it, I'm better built for pulling. I also got that back injury so my squat isn't that strong now. 3x90kg for front squats yesterday was pretty darn tough. That was after 2 sets of 8 and 6 reps of lunges with 36kg dbs in each hand, though :p

Since my back is fine today, I'm gonna start working up towards triples at 100kg with front squatting.

But I also suspect that we’re being truthful and a lot of people on here have been using their half-rep max and adding 20 lbs ;)

I’ve only seen one guy benching really heavy and that was just a few weeks back, and he benched 2x398. He’s a personal trainer at my gym and built like a brick **** house, very short arms too. When I read the stats some people post up on here I just know they’re half-repping because when they post pics they look like an advert for Aid For Africa

Couldn't agree more. I think there's a lot more BSing going around than some people think. Also, a lot of people think they bench a lot but they can't keep their butt on the bench.

sooo many kids have lied about how much they can bench to me a hundredy times. one time my friend said he can bench 250 and he can do 170...
another said he can do 180 when he struggles with 135 ugh
its really annoying how ppl lie about it x.x

I did a dead lift day yesterday, I couldn’t be bothered at the time to post weights but I’ll make sure I do for Wednesday’s training

I just went to the dentist and found out I’ve split a tooth right down the middle and need it taken out; implants are so expensive!!

Dont know if your interested, but do you know the results from this WSM?

Marious won again!!! Followed by Derek Poundstone from the US, who's looking good.

We were poor this year, I think Terry Hollands had problems with injury or something. Im still going to watch it though.

Just thought id tell ya :D

Hack squats are weird. I would rather just turn around and deadlift.
