Cohen's Lifestyle Tips for a Cohen Newbie...

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
I can relate to that! It makes you feels so good resisting. It's saying "I'm strong. I can do this!" I used to ask my LH if he would like a glass of red wine, sniff it & enjoy watching him drink it. Drinking through osmosis?
Have answered yr question re "Nationals" in my diary, cheers, Cate.

apples

Hi guys, still catching up on posts...

Apples, yum yum... I eat apples and they are the best fruit to eat when you are trying to shift that weight..I havent found they make me hungry but maybe as my excess weight decreases i may find that changes, still on the yogurt and unlike some i do not add sweetener, i dont see the point. I did originally make it with sprite and an apple but that really did make me hungry and it would repeat. yuk yuk yuk.....

Overcoming temptations is such a pat on the back.. you are doing so well AZ keep it up...

whats this lean burger? do you make it yourself?
pardon my curiosity..

Well keep up the good work and i will be back on the forum this afternoon Kelista has a marching event this morning..

Well as always "may the water be with you"...

Chelle

Hi AZ, Well done on resisiting all those temptations. I'm guessing you are from American (from the lbs and lean hamburger..we call it mince) The brownies and cakes I'm sure are so much better over there than over here and so must an even bigger temptation for you, so big "pat on the back".
You are very good taking your chicken and cooking it at work. I am lazy and usually just have cheese or tuna and crackers for lunch when I'm at work. I find food doesn't really interest me that much when I'm doing Cohens. I just eat because it is that time of the day and if I don't eat this meal on time then I don't get the next meal on time.
Must be a good place to work though. It sounds like they appreciate their staff...a lot..lol!!
Take care
Beck

Catching up.. Day 16 and Day 17

Sorry guys, I don't have my laptop right now, so... I'm behind!

A lean burgrer or hamburger is a minced steak or meat.

I am a little worried as I purchased it already ground/minced and it might have had too much fat in it. I've been cooking it on my George Foreman Grill and I know that is helping get the excess fat off, but I am afraid it might be what is not helping the weight melt off.

I have lost 10 lbs so far, but I thought it would be more. I know I am only a little bit into the program, but I was hoping for more. Perhaps it will come towards the end.

Don't worry! I am not defeated by the scale, just a little surprised. I don't think I am cheating any where... and I'm doing well with the water. So I will just see. It all doesn't matter until the 4 week weigh in anyways!

I am in American, I live in the State of Arizona and the City of Phoenix. Yes, these Brownies are from Costco... and are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So it was a tough, but YAY for me moment!

I also have a Football (American) game to go to this upcoming weekend that I wasn't planning on, so I am trying to figure that meal plan out. It will basically be 10 hours of tailgating, bar hopping and football!

I'm trying to figure out the meal plan right now... I might just get up really early that day and it at 6, 11 and 4 or later. I pick him up from the airport at 12. If I get my two meals in before he gets here, then I can do Tuna or a hardboiled egg, or something for dinner. I will also save my "Soda" alottment for the game.. and smuggle in some crackers and apples to the game.

Ok.. so this weekend on 10.18 I had:

Yogurt
Cracker
Apple
Hamburger with Spinach, Cucumber and Tomato
Cracker,
Hamburger with Spinach, Cucmber and TOmato
Cracker
2 L of water

On 10.19 I had:

Yogurt
Cracker
Apple
Hamburger with Spinach, Cucumber and Tomato
Cracker
Apple
Hamburger with Spinach, Cucmber and TOmato
Cracker
2 L of water

Tuna and Cheese vs Cooking at work

Oh.. I forgot to add, I was doing the same thing, but then my co-worker pointed out I was eating too much Tuna...

I did some research and I was eating like 180% the amount of Tuna I was allowed to eat... DOH...

So now I keep tuna down to no more than 2 a week because of the Mercury issue.

My program says "Beef Lean (Any steak without fat)" and in the notes next to that "Do not buy minced meat off the shelf. Select a lean steak & ask your butcher to mince it for you". Cheers, Cate.

Yeah.. mine said that too... but it had extra lean, X% of fat or less, so I took a chance.... and well I shouldn't have.

Next time, I will most definately do that.

What type of lean beef, the cut do you all buy?

Food

Hi Az thanks for your kind words, I feel better this morning, i think i have passed my crisis point and hope that i can move on with more positive outlook, or at least move on... ha ha ha

I must admit that I too bought Minced breast from a specialty chicken shop and my weight has hardly moved,it dawned on me yesterday...Dob... I have been getting frustrated and realised all too late why it might be, so no more for either of us ha ha ha, so back to mincing my own.. boo hoo

I tend to prefer porterhouse/sirloin, its usally nice and tender, i just love red meat.. yum yum I also have rump steak too but it is that bit more chewy....

My plan for today will be egg as i am out of yogurt with veg, Steak for lunch and chicken for dinner, i must remember to buy some lettuce so i can make i mini salad....Fruits will be apples (x2)...

I hope you can resist temptation on the footy excursion, I too will be among food and drink, hubby will be with me so i am sure he will put temption in its place..

Good luck and keep up your great work...

Chelle

No More Mince/Ground!

Ok.. well maybe a little...

Ok.. NONE!

I went and bought all new chicken yesterday and will break it all down before I have to freeze it. That was the bad mistake I made the last time. Lesson learned.

I've hit another "plateau" as I have lost any in a few days. But that's ok, I know it's just my body getting used to everything again and then I'll have another cycle of loss in a few days. I usually lose 3 days straight... then go up a lbs and then palteau... and then lose that pound and dop a few more.

Hopefully switching to chicken will help a lot.

I'm also going to try cutting down on crackers... but I am not going to do that until the next 4 weeks.

Day 20 (10.22.2008)

Today I'll enjoy:

Yogurt
Apple
Cracker
Feta salad (Spinach, Tomato, Cucumber)
Apple
Chicken with Salad (Spinach, Tomato, Cucumber)
Crackers, if hungry.

I also need to go up to 3 L of water I think. So I've been good about getting the 2 in the past few days but now I am going to step it up...

I know that you know to limit tomatoes but perhaps I would cut them down even more. They are so high in sugar(carbs). The cuts of steak I would ask for would be topside, rump, porterhouse or even blade. I'm not sure if you call them that in the US. It's best to choose steaks with the fat visible, rather than flecked through it & then ask your butcher to cut the visible fat off & then mince it for you. Do you ever have an egg for breakfast? I alternated egg/mushroom/tomato(with 2 crackers) with yoghurt/fruit as my breakfast options, depending on how much time I had in the morning. Sometimes I would have a 1 egg omelette with spinach & mushroom & some dried herbs. Mixing things around can help with weight-loss as well I think. I used to make soup with chicken & asparagus(canned), a little onion, & celery & it's very convenient to have at work if you have a microwave. I used to do the cooking on days off. I'd weigh x amount of chicken breast, cut up with x amount of vegetables from the allowance & cook each one separately. Sometimes I'd have 3-4 saucepans each with approx the same combinations of soup going at the same time. Then I would blitz some, leave others whole & freeze them individually & mark them Meal 2 chicken soup. Another day off I might cook a small beef curry with vegetables in it etc. Minced steak I would have portioned out in the freezer as either Meal 1 or Meal 2 & almost always cooked it as a "chop suey" with cabbage, celery. mushrooms, curry powder, garlic salt & a little balsamic added at the end of cooking. This is also nice microwaved.
I've probably gone on a bit more than I intended. I have never been particularly interested in cooking until I did Cohen's. Now I appreciate good food & good cooking so much more. Enjoy your football! We love football here but it's a very different game to yours & their are many different codes of football. I follow Australian Rules & barrack for St.Kilda. In much of New South Wales & Queensland Rugby is their football code. Then there is what many people(our YS is 1 of them) consider the only football- Soccer. It's played everywhere. I think your football is more like Rugby. Is that so? Do you follow a team with passion?
In Baltimore Lacrosse seemed huge. I don't know anyone who pays lacrosse here.
Sorry to go on so much in your diary. I had better scoot over to mine. Thanks for your best wishes re the "Nationals". Go Tassie! Tasmania has only won one Australian Championship & our OS was in that team many years ago. We'll need all the luck & best wishes we can get. Cheers, cate

My consultant told me no more than 35g per meal 2 times a day, so I have been sticking to that this past week.

Should I cut back even more than that?

No. If you are sticking to that it should be ok really. I just went & weighed one of my tomatoes in the fridge & it weighed 146g. Our program said 1/2 a tomato per meal, maximum 1 per day so I'm sure that often I would have had more than 35g. It's probably the mince that has slowed you down a little. Cheers, Cate.

Busy Busy Busy!

I've fallen behind here but that is ok!

My "official" weigh in is tomorrow. So I will see how that ends up.

I am 100% sure it was the hamburger!!!!

I lost 1.1 lbs yesterday alone, 3lbs for the week since I stopped having it!

AND I even had my first 2 deviations in this week!

They weren't huge, but last firday I have Feta salad.. and I already had it the past Tuesday, so I broke the "Only Once a Week Rule" and then Wednesday, I was testing this microwave hard egg cooker thing, and I had a hard boailed egg white.

Still not huge, but 3 lbs this week!

When I was eating the hamburger, I had a 2 lbs week and a 1.6 lbs week!

So.. I think this means I should have a MUCH bigger month 2 than month 1! Or at least I hope!

I only lost 10 lbs my first month, well 13.5 if you add in the first 4 days extra.

But I did lose 8 inches and 22 inches from total body measurements!

Well done...

you are doing so well..

i am glad things are moving along nicely for you now.. just a quicky note of congrats my bub has just woken up...

be back later..
good luck

Wow.. sorry I've been MIA...

Cohen is going good.

I might have a friend coming to stay with me for a few weeks, so I might have a bit of a struggle coming up. It will either go one of two ways....
