Tic's Reflection

3/20 Friday

Chest + shoulder

Finally hit my goal of bench press 315 lbs. Did 1 and another one with minimal help. Should have been able to do 2 if I didn't spend so much energy on the first press. The power generation is nice but my body is getting flabby. Well, gaining muslce also means gaining fat.

Bench press Flat BB : 315 x 1 x 1.5

Been off coffee this whole week. Being about to bench press 315 is a prime example life is a journey and not a destination. As much as it's a big accomplishment to bench 315 lbs for the first time in my lifel, I do not feel like I did something spectucalar like when I got the toy rockets for those kids a few weeks ago. The journey to benching 315 was definitely more enjoyable than actually accomplishing it. Oh well. Saw an old friend at the gym and he didn't believe that I did 315 lbs.

"Life is a journey, not a destination."

3/21 sat

Bicep with soem back workout.

DB twisting curl: 55 x 3 x 6-8.

The girl has to ask... who in the hell hops on a scale after eating a buffet? That would screw my head right on up and send me to the Capn Crunch box. hahah.

You surely are strong- squatting 315! I am so excited, everyone seems to be on the road to getting great things done. :) I love strong and facing a challenge. Awe-sum. :D

3/22 Sunday

Rest day so some reflection.

Vainity

I've been discussing this with my brother who is also my workout partner. Intially, I was slightly disappointed in myself because I caught myself being vain and enjoying all the glare and stare from people. Then, my brother said that most if not all bodybuilder are slightly vain. I will not lie, I enjoy the attention that I get when I lift. The stare from guys who are just plain out amazed with their jaws dropping to the ground with the weight that I am putting up AND the glare from girls (some of them are actually young and cute but tons of older women).

Another thing that I've noticed lately is the amount of people that workout around me. For example today, when I was doing bicep; soo many people workouted around me that I felt slightly boxed it. First a couple workouted right next to my right so I moved my weight slightly to the left. Then a cute girl workouted right next to me so I move my weight backward a little. Then another guy workouted right behind me. Wow, i had no where to move. OH well, I do like the attention.

Yes, I like my reflection from the mirror and Yes, i know I am working out at a recreational gym and not anywhere close to professional athletes but you know what? It sure is fun to get stares and glare from people. I feel like a hot chick at a club.... Yes my head is going to explode and no I cannot get to the gym anymore but my head cannot squeeze through the door anymore!!

Is it wrong to be vain at the gym?

3/23

Shoulder / trap / back

Military press DB: 85 lbs x 2 x 6.

Okay, using DB over machine or smith machine or BB sure is different. My stabilizer muscle is soo weak. Once I can get it 1/4 way up, the other 3/4 is cake but since I focus soo much energy on stabilizing, it was difficult to breath. The rest of the workout was a struggle, not sure b/c of the Mexican food I ate 2 hrs prior or the DB military press.

Are you only doing 2 sets per workout or am i missing something???

oh no wai man. I am doing tons of different movement and find it just difficult to list everything and keep track of it, so I only list the highlights.

For example, yesterday I did: squat (at bar, 135, 225, 315 lbs), leg press (22 plates (3 sets of 8-10), calf raises using smith machine (405 x 3 x 12), abductor / adductor (max wt setting on machine), calf machine (rotational movement), leg curl.

I only listed squat 315 x 2 x (10,8), b/c it's most people (myself) want to focus on.

3/26 Thursday

3/25 Off but still went hiking for 3 milies.

Chest + little tricep. Did 30 minutes cardio in morning and lifted in afternoon. Had an ice coffee 30 minutes prior to working out. Going in, didn't feel really hyped but had a great workout.

Reverse Pyramid Flat BB bench press:
295 x 4 (+1 with very little help, 5 total)
295 x 3, 225 x 6, 135 x 5+5 (innnr / outer grip)
295 x 3, 225 x 8, 135 x 10.

Wow, I don't believe that I am on my way to repping 295 already. Weight is going up too fast actually and feeling the slight nudge on the belly so will cut back on carbs intake and increase more protein intake.

Also did: incline hammer machine, cable seated flies, tricep ext, single arm tricep ext, seated tricep ext.

3/30 monday

Saturday did abs. Sunday was off and hungover.

Today, monday = shoulder + some back.

Military press 90 lbs dbs x 1 x 5.

Did a followup sets of 2 reps.. Wow, it was draining. Then cooldown with 75x1x7.

weight is balloning up but getting a lot stronger. I miss how my toneness and defiinition. Soo much want to return on my diet and cut for a week or 2 BUT going to stick to this (at least for 1 more week, probably 2). Most people complain about dieting and it sucks but I am bitaching about my gain phase.. LoL

Drank some on Saturday night. I have very very low tolerance. Man, I was sore on sunday from drinking. Mood was awful, tired, fatigue; sleeping pattern was thrown out of whack. Drinking sucks!!! oh well. Will try to keep pressing my strength HARD and try to gain more power while I am gaining phase. Going to try to maximize abs growth as well, will try to do abs twice a week.

4/1

"semi off day."

Just did leg press and calves raises; then 1 hour of yoga.
leg press 24 plates x 3 x 6

Still feeling pretty bad from last night's migrane... sucks.

3/31 chest + bicep

flat bb bench: 315 x 2 x (2+1, 1); 215 x 1 x 15
db curls: 52.5 x 3 x 7

That night (3/31 at about 7 pm) the migrane started and ended at about 9:30. There is 15 minutes onset and 2 hours downtime after 9:30 where it still hurts a little but not as bad. I am pretty sure the migrane was triggered by my drinking on Saturday night. pain scale 1-10, I would put this up in 9/10. Eyes felt like they were about to pop out and dry heave 3 times. Coining (a chinese techique of rubbing a coin on the back) helped a lot. Cure the stomach achne and help w/ head tension a little bit. Fortunately, I did NOT suffered dizzy spell this time. No vertigo; pheeww.

Call me a maschist but this pain help me realize a few things. Life w/o migrane is GREAT. I feel much more compension for others. Since I thought my aneurision burst, I realized how short life can be. I NEED to live more. Finally, I have been soo strong alone for soo long that I didn't feel the need for anyone else but this migrane put me on my knees and that I need other people. I cannot do this alone and a little support helps a long way.

As for the lifting, my body is getting stronger and thicker BUT losing definition sucks balls. Going to have to wear t-shirt instead of tank top for a few weeks while I bulk a little more before I trim. Sure is nice to be benching 315, military pressing 85-90 lbs db, curling 55 lbs dbs; just that the body does NOT look like an underwear model anymore... booo. Oh well, need to remain focus and keep eye on the prize and bigger picture.

I used to get migranes when i was young, but i grew out of them. Or at least thats what people say. Maybe theres something that triggers them or maybe i was deficient in something. Any clue what brings yours on???

4/2 Thursday: Taking day off for extra rest / rebuild.

Wesman, I do NOT know what triggers my migrane. Before, I guessed it to be tea (not coffee though) and now I think it might be alcohol (hard liquor, not beer). Dude, i have no clue actually. But through the experience, I learnded "Growth thru adversity."

Decided to keep better track of my weight,
Wt in morning (empty stomach) = 174.6
right after a big breakfast = 176.4
at night = ???

I enjoy reading a lot more now that I do not have to do it for school. Finished another book, "The Survivors Club" by Ben Sherwood. Interesting book.

Somewhere along the line, I think my vainity got the best of me. I've noticed that I've been wearing tighter clothes to "show off" my muscle at the gym and everywhere. Going to start wearing long loose clothes again. Well, loose is relative... I will still wear tank tops on my arms day but with another outer layer to cover up. Thing is that I get soo pumped up and sweaty that I cannot wear long sleeves while weight training so I will have to remove the shirt after I am warmed up and pumped.

Screwed around kinda. CHEST AND BICEP.

Flat BB bench press: 315 x 2 x (2+1, 1), 225x1x12
ez preacher curl: 100+bar x 1 x 6

Okay, i have to admit it; working out while wearing a loose shirt is just pure evil. Big ass guys are staring and double checking the weight that I am putting up. I can see in their eyes, "WTF, how can a tiny guy like that put up those weight." Hahaha, it's pure evil. They should learn from my signature to check their ego at the door. Made a group of 3 guys quit the bench press b/c they were only putting up 205 and struggling while I am putting up 315.

I know it's evil but it's fun so I will continue working out wearing either longsleeve shirt or t-shirt that makes me looks small. I enjoy the gym too much. Workouted with a friend today and he basically called it quit when I wanted to do 1-2 more machine to round things up. LoL.... Oh, I think I would have put up 3 reps at 315 but due to new spotter (he did not give me to best liftoff), I was fatigued.

Still sore when I started the workout, kinda sore... So not too sure if I should rest more in between workout or what... Well, I am having fun at least. Gotta love what you do, you know. Oh, note to self need to decrease some of the weight so that I can do 6-10 reps instead of doing 4-8 reps which I have been doing lately.

4/4 + 4/5

Measurements

I went and out measured by a tailor for a tuxedo suit for my friends wedding yesterday. Some interesting stuff and fun thing about my built was discovered. This was done on 4/4/09 Well here they are and see what you guys / gals think:

Neck = 17.5 "
chest (relaxed, arm to side) = 40 "
Waist = 34 "
hip (for pants) = 34'
Ass = 42''
Chest+arms on the side= 50"

Apparently, I am a 40-34-42. Now consider that I am 4-5 week deep in my weight gain process and not cut phase. My waist should be at 32-33 once I go into cut phase for 2 weeks or so. What really surprised me was my ass size, 42''... Damn, now I see why I can squat so much with relatively small leg. My friends were kidding around but they said that I am a "c" cup size. LoL.

oh, wt on 4/5 morning = 175.4

Feeling slightly sick 4/4 night and 4/5 morning. Being socialable have it's consequences and one of that is getting sickness from others. Oh well. Not sure if I will go 1 or 2 more weeks of mass gain before my cut phase for a little bit. I do miss the slim / tone look but I enjoy the glare and stare of lifting heavy.

4/6 Monday

Shoulder and tricep day.

Wow, I am just tired and had a fairly bad workout in my standard. Not sure what is going on but might be the Nitcol that I took last night or the lack of coffee or the sudden change of weather or the spring allegry but I am lethagetic. Oh well, can't have a good workout all the time.

DB military press: 90x2x(5,4)

4/7 Tuesday

Leg day.

Wow, it's been awhile but this workout kicked my butt. Felt like throwing up after I did leg press and it persist for next hour even after I finished working out. Doing some bench press for fun at the end as a challenge helped the quasi stomach a lot. Brother bet me that I cannot do 20 reps of 225 lbs, well he was right and wrong. I only did 18 but that was after a hard leg workout and yesterday, I did shoulder. I am sure that next time I do chest that I can press 20x easy.

squat: 315 x 3 x (8,10,8)
leg press : 24 plates x 2 x 8; 22 plates x 1 x 8; 18 x 1 x 8.
bench press flat bb (for fun): 225 x 1 x 18

It's been awhile since I heard or read a good quote but here is only that resonant a lot to me today:
Having too much of something is the same as not having enough.

dude, you are ROCKING everything!

great job on the hard work dude...how do you get your bench so high!?

can you give me a basic overview of your approach to bench at the moment?

great stuff man keep it up!

4/9 Thursday = Chest + tricep + bicep.

Flat BB bench: 315 x 1 x (2+1, that extra one I think I could have done it solo).

After that attempt, my body was drained and wiped for a good 10 minutes. Try to do 295 lbs, can't; then did 275 x 1 x 5, 225 x 1 x 8. After that it was close grip bench press 185x3x8.

Yup, did the chest and bicep like all the kiddies. Just screwing around and messing with the young guns at the gym b/c it's spring break; LoL.

Went out and drank and did some really unhealthy consumption last night and stayed up late. Skipped yoga on 4/10 and 4/10's workout is going to suck balls. Know what? I am just not into staying out late and partying anymore or gambling (didn't do that). Bachelor partying in next couple week might be boring as heck for me in Vegas... Wow, I do NOT believe that I would EVER be saying that.

I was excited to go out last night but the actual outing was not as fun + fulfilling as it used to be. Oh well, at least I didn't get a really bad hangover OR a migrane; phew... at least not the migrane yet... hope not, avoided hard liquor on purpose.

Next few weeks will be time to CUT, and today is last power workout.. weekend will be transition phase and starting monday will be CUT phase. Thanks PB for YOUR progress picture, made me realize that I NEED to cut up; I am getting too fat.

4/11 Saturday

Ok, so I decided to flip the switched to weight loss mentality and routine. Mentally, I felt great most of the day until I was with my sick brother for about 3 hours. Now, I think my body is trying to fight the stomach flu and my head is cloudy. Been intaking fruits for calorie as a duo system of carb intake and fighting the flu. Very busy workout / active day.

Workout:
30 minutes of intense ellpytical with some hits = 400 cal
30 minutes (give or tak) of abs + clapping push ups (did one set of 25 reps, 20,15)
25 minutes of steps machine

Was sweating all the time and dripping when I did the pushup sets even after wiping myself down time after time.

Ate 1/4 chicken and went to play 2 hours of half court basketball.

Yeah... good stuff. I just hope that I am not getting sick and the body soreness is just from calorie deficiet.
