This is a touchy subject for some!

Holy geezus.

You just dug up a thread that was 3 years old since its last post

Wow.

i read through all the responses before i saw how old this thread was...anyway, since its back, i am a jehovahs witness, dont worry christina im not offended by what you wrote, yeah sadly there's hypocrites here, but really, there's hypocrites in every organization. i think there's a lot of misconceptions about us, if anyone has a question, go ahead and ask, i wont get upset.

Seems like alot of you go to church's of some kind. How do you know what religion is right? How do you know your god is the one? How do you believe in god? How do you believe in the bible? I just dont understand, funny thing is......... I'm baptized catholic, made my communion, and my Grandmother would die if she read this! LOL
This is my kind of topic, but I'm not touching it with a 20' pole on this forum. I'd rather not further sully everyone's opinion of me.

I am Catholic. I guess you could say I was raised Catholic but my family hardly ever went to church. We go on Easter and Christmas to be exact. I did, however, spend 7 years in Catholic school. So that's basically 5 hours a week of Religion classes. From that I have formed my own views on the Bible because hey what can I say I'm human.

I think the most important thing I learned through those 7 years is that the New Testament supercedes the Old. I believe many Christians use the Old Testament as a foundation of their faith and that pretty much ignores the teachings in the New Testament. I mean many of the most important teachings come from the Gospels.

I'm an Atheist. I think whatever you do spiritually, strive to be happy while making sure you don't get into the way of other people's path toward happiness. I've seen many people (Atheist included) hurt themselves and others around them because of their religious believes, and that's just sad

George Carlin has an absolutely brilliant routine on why he thinks there are entirely too many commandments...

that there really should only be 2- ok maybe 3 - thou shalt be faithful to the provider of thy nookie, and you shoudl try real hard to not kill anyone (unless of course they pray to a different invisible man than you :D

And his last one... thou shall keep thy religion to thyself... :D

you guys who are commenting on christina's opinions do realize she's not here anymore don't you??? Its been a few years....

But since we are on the subject.....

I dont' think its a secret, I'm a christian. I believe that christians (and other moral, but spiritially confused people) have kept this world from going to hell in a handbasket. As sad as the world has become w/ murders, rape, even with petty theft or lying...can you imagine just how much worse the place would be w/o christians??? I think we deserve more credit than we are given.

Yea, I'm a fan of this one for sure.

That's why jehovahs witnesses rub me the wrong way. When they come a knockin it just doesn't make a whole heck of a lot of sense to me. Luckily I usually make a joke of it... otherwise I'd be pretty edgy considering I don't appreciate people knocking on my door whom I don't know trying to push their beliefs/values on me.

I know they explain that's not what their doing. But then they hand me their literature and ask me silly question. That's a tad bit insulting.

I put them on the same level as the telemarketers who refuse to stop calling. Maybe they're not quite as bad since their intentions are good, at least in their minds. The telemarketer is only trying to rip me off, more often than not.

My solution to the telemarketer though is simple. I demand they give me their cell phone number so I can call them back on my time. I haven't had one respond favorably to this yet. You better believe though that if they do I'll be posting the number in as many forums as I know asking my friends to dial the number.

I could nitpick any group. I won't b/c I don't really feel that I have the right to. I keep my opinions to myself for the most part unless, again, someone comes a knockin. Don't push values on me and I won't do so to you.

I'm very acceptive and I expect the same from everyone else. Of course most don't live up to those expectations and that's when I'll open my mouth to speak my mind in opposition.

Others that usually step on toes, especially on the net seem to be contemporary Christians. Contemporary Christians in America are often the first group to condemn anything that doesn't agree with their viewpoint, and generally do so quite aggressively with no room for compromise.

That's annoying.

He will be missed :(

Every person has to find what is right for them and works for them. When you find it, you will know. I am sorry I can’t give you a more accurate answer than that. Religion and spirituality, much like so many other things in life, are all about what fits for you. It’s different for different people. I am more spiritual than religious because I haven't found an organized religion that works entirely for me yet, but I do have solid beliefs, so I am not worried about it.

I'm glad to hear it, thats all that counts is that you have your beliefs. Jesus didnt' have a "church" he went to either.

I really hate it when someone implies that you need to be Christian, or a person of faith, to have morals or values. There are millions of people in this world that choose not to believe in gods or afterlives and live quite moral lives because they understand that life is precious, the only one we have and that we need to take care of one another, regardless of religious beliefs, sexual preferences or cultural identities.

^^ amen to that ^^

Not to mention all the folks in prison who find religion or whatever...

Being christian doesn't make a person any more moral than those who aren't Christian...

no, i'm not implying that..but to go as far as to say that there are non christians that are more moral than Christians is a stretch for me....maybe the reason for the difference of opinion is that I am speaking for TRUE Christians....not people that label themselves as such or use is for their own good (ie : prisoners).

My whole point was that IMO Christians help make the world a better place...thats my 2 cents...i'm not debating if non christians have morals or not....

some people help make the world a better place...
