The Run Challenge - Burning the Ground!

oh hey!! i forgot about this thread, and here Tracy is struggling with the swim thing.

for you tracy i will add- the more swimming you do the easier the swim will be. Also, the more contemplating the swim you do, the harder it will get. relax, swim, breath, and then keep swimming.

for me i will update: 26.2 in 4:03
next event is 140.6 on oct 25th, the Great Floridian
also added the Calgary 70.3, august 2, 2009 to the schedule.

Santa Cruz Sentinel Olympic Distance Triathlon

Compared to some races, this is a pretty competitive race because a lot of teams participate. With that in mind, I knew there wouldn't be a podium spot for me but I went with the purpose of killing on the run. I did.

I posted a mediocre swim time but I've been recovering from a small shoulder injury which appears to be gone but I didn't want to push it. My T1 time was just ok and I should probably re-read my post about transitions again. I know the bike course and pushed it about as hard as I could with compromising my run... and that's what this race was really about for me.

I blazed through T2 in 50 seconds and was off on the run. I pushed the run the entire way but when I got to the half way point, I could smell the finish and ratcheted it up a notch.

In a race of nearly 1000 competitors, I finished with the following:

Total Time: 2:20:56, 76th Overall, 14th in my Age Group
Swim: 0:26:53
T1: 0:03:11
Bike: 1:08:59 (21.62)
T2: 0:00:50
Run: 0:41:01 (6:36)

The point of this race for me was the run and I finished with 36th overall.

What a fun race!

Outstanding! :costumed:

I also like that you have clear and realistic goals - shows a lot of self-awareness. :)

6:36!!!!!!!

OMG!!

dude!

hahahaha and you have a guy who has never done a triathlaon telling you that was "realistic" LOL!!! Focus, you are too funny!

ty bb, but, uh, aren't we supposed to be pretending each that the other doesn't exist? ^_^

ftr, I was referring to the care taken with the swimming. And it goes without saying that "realistic" is relative.

San Jose Rock N Roll Half Marathon

Time: 1:28:39
Pace: 6:46
20th AG
191st OA (out of 9000)

Stupid Garmin. I used to live by this thing and now I prefer running by feel. It was incorrectly tracking mileage and I had to make up for lost time on the second half when I realized I was running slower than I thought. I stopped watching it for mileage and pace at about mile 5 and got back on track. Of course I wasn't paying attention for the first 5 miles so that's my own fault.

You only have to hate me for two more races. After CIM in December, I won't be racing until Oceanside in April. My arms are not that big. I am your typical scrawny triathlete.

I raced 5k today. finished 22:11. That is over a minute faster than my chip time from last month! I am pumped. I only ran 2 5ks this year and my goal was to beat my last time. For next year I want to run a sub 20 min race.

Very nice. How old are you?

Sub 20 should be well within your grasp.
