Wanting Something (modified by Chillen)(but written by someone else)

A hermit was meditating by a river when a young man interrupted him. "Master, I wish to become your disciple," said the man. "Why?" replied the hermit. The young man thought for a moment. "Because I want to find true meaning."

The master jumped up, grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, dragged him into the river, and plunged his head under water. After holding him there for a minute, with him kicking and struggling to free himself, the master finally pulled him up out of the river. The young man coughed up water and gasped to get his breath. When he eventually quieted down, the master spoke. "Tell me, what did you want most of all when you were under water."

"Air!" answered the man.

"Very well," said the master. "Go home and come back to me when you want True meaning as much as you just wanted air."

I would like responses to this because it IS an important and applicable meaning toward your personal goals.

Sounds of Silence (by someone else)

Four monks decided to meditate silently without speaking for two weeks. By nightfall on the first day, the candle began to flicker and then went out. The first monk said, "Oh, no! The candle is out." The second monk said, "Aren't we not suppose to talk?" The third monk said, "Why must you two break the silence?" The fourth monk laughed and said, "Ha! I'm the only one who didn't speak."

I would like responses to this because it IS an important and applicable meaning toward your personal goals.

Concentration (by someone else)

After winning several archery contests, the young and rather boastful champion challenged a Zen master who was renowned for his skill as an archer. The young man demonstrated remarkable technical proficiency when he hit a distant bull's eye on his first try, and then split that arrow with his second shot. "There," he said to the old man, "see if you can match that!" Undisturbed, the master did not draw his bow, but rather motioned for the young archer to follow him up the mountain. Curious about the old fellow's intentions, the champion followed him high into the mountain until they reached a deep chasm spanned by a rather flimsy and shaky log. Calmly stepping out onto the middle of the unsteady and certainly perilous bridge, the old master picked a far away tree as a target, drew his bow, and fired a clean, direct hit. "Now it is your turn," he said as he gracefully stepped back onto the safe ground. Staring with terror into the seemingly bottomless and beckoning abyss, the young man could not force himself to step out onto the log, no less shoot at a target. "You have much skill with your bow," the master said, sensing his challenger's predicament, "but you have little skill with the mind that lets loose the shot."

I would like responses to this because it IS an important and applicable meaning toward your personal goals.

I think its fair to say, we have an audience of readers---even the scoffers view the log for their own reasons. Be content that a few people are being touched in varied ways, youngman. The MOST important thing in this thread to me, is its INTEGRITY and PURPOSE. And, you know that.

If your intent and will is to actually have answers here Chillen- it may be best to state the question. Do not have hurt feelings at the lack of response. your question is implicit in the content. It requires one to think and read in terms of "trying to learn" in order to recognize the question.

As in the website, as with fitness, the purpose of fitness is to strain the body, for me, and to truely strain the body, one must overcome the mental handicap, or sin, of sloth.... BUT the true adventure begins when we have depleted the body.

there-in my friend lies the answer!

A hermit was meditating by a river when a young man interrupted him. "Master, I wish to become your disciple," said the man. "Why?" replied the hermit. The young man thought for a moment. "Because I want to find true meaning."

the way i see it, the master represents God.
the man represents...any man on earth.
The man searched for wisdom and "true meaning" by coming to the master. He said he wants to be his disciple.
The thing to understand is, we cannot feel the TRUE heavenly relationship with God until we set aside everything we have to follow him and be his disciple.
We have to desire his love and his wisdom with every fiber of our being(desire understanding more than life itself=air) and be able to make huge sacrifices on our own behalf before we can experiance the REAL connection between God and man.

i guess another interpretation is that wisdom can be elusive and you can only find it when you search with the passion of your life. in other words, your life must be the persuit of wisdom in order to obtain TRUE wisdom.

this one is easy.
candle=an unexpected occurance in life

the first monk can represent a man with a toungue too quick to action. he starts the whole conflict; he starts the avalanche of hypocryts. a man with a loose tongue causes problems!

the second, third and fourth monks are hypocryts. in their comments to correct the first monk, they break the silence themselves!
their tongue is just as loose as HIS!

the fourth monk can be seen as a bragger. in his bragging, he destroys the very accomplishment he brags about.
boasting of accomplishments can ruin the real triumph.

you can have unbelievable skill in your fingers and incredible strength within your body, but if your mind is not as skillful or as powerful, that is a contradicting flaw which can cripple your skills and body.
You can reach your physical peaks and your technical limit, yet there will ALWAYS be someone better until you max out your mind.

A Rhyme for the ChillOut Log:

The Chillout Log is like the African hunting Dog, it barks at the mentally Clogged, and releases the Fog so one can be a information Hog:

which is called the Chill Pill so they can rev up their mental quartz Mill and become like a Internal stamped Mill of humbled Will and personally Chill.

FF=The question was: What does the following stories mean to you (This question was at the very top for all to see----but thee ( :) )

This left it open to interpretation. Because these types of phrases can be interpretated in many different but positive ways. Sometimes I get disheartened by lack of responses, but I get enlightend especially when in just over 18 hours, there was over 200 more views of the log, we are approaching 4200 in this is just a few weeks, and I know there are some reading, and just ONE touched and this provides fullfillment to THEM, then I met my goal.............s

Visualize this thing that you want, see it, feel it, believe in it. Make your mental blue print, and begin to build.
Robert Collier

“The obstacles you face are... mental barriers which can be broken by adopting a more positive approach.”

(I firmly believe that one has to have the cognitive ability to recognize the internal mental power to overcome personal weaknesses. Let me give you an example:

If willpower lacks on a given day, pull from your passion to overcome the weakness in willpower.

If motivation is lacking on a given day, pull from your desire and a little from passion to overcome the weakness in motivation (Mental carry over effects)

If Passion is lacking on a given day, then pull from a stronger mental power, like willpower, and let this cover for the weakness in passion. There are many other combinations. Do what it takes to stimulant your strength to overcome any weaknesses that develop.

Hello everybody.............Whats up today?

I wish all of you the best..........as always.....................Visualize your blueprint, make the roadmap, and you WILL GET THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ALL KNOW YOU WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An absolutely FANTASTIC POST FROM LEI! (From the I am too self-conscious thread)

To illicit the greatest of changes, you must create a paradigm shift...you have to change the way you view things, and this will change the way you feel and react...according to Stephen R. Covey.

So let me share my view and interpretation of how I would view these things that you fear:

Quote:
I feel as though I'm too self-conscious at the gym. I'm pretty skinny to begin with which is the reason I go to the gym in the first place - to bulk up. However, I feel like everyone is frowning at me anyway. See, the gym I go to is sponsored by our local community college, so many local athletes are there. Most of who are already in good shape, and around 6 foot or more. Whereas, I'm only 5'7, skinny, and I'm Asian, so I feel like my ethnicity makes me stick out. We are a VERY small community, 6700 people, so seeing lots of different ethnicities at the gym is somewhat of a rarity, I've concluded.

Who cares?

Quote:
So I feel like I'm being judged whenever I work out and therefore, I can't focus on my work out as much. I also have a phobia of going to a certain machine if someone else is on the machine next to it which often prevents me from doing some of the machines I need to do. Also, I am very self-conscious whenever I go to take the weights off a machine that someone else didn't take off when they left it. Sometimes they use VERY heavy plates for the leg press, and don't take them off and they're like ten times bigger than me, so I struggle to get it off, and I feel slightly embarrassed.

So what?

Now, granted, these are not necessarily the correct way to view things, as if there WERE a correct way...

lmao

Well let me level with you -- I am in almost the same predicament as you. I train at a community college, in a pretty small weight room. I am a 5'11" Asian male who started training at around 140-150 lbs. I am constantly in the proximity of highly athletic and strong people, who aren't always the most modest people around. I won't say that I'm the only Asian dude in the weight room, but I'm probably in the vast pool of 2 that I've ever seen in a year and a half of constant training.

So, anyway, I don't let any of this get to me. Why? Because I've been humbled. I'm humbled because of the fact that I challenge myself and sometimes fail. Because I have been humbled, I don't feed off my pride and ego. The problem with not just big guys, but small guys like yourself and others I have known, is that they don't want to risk being seen...being humbled by someone else. Deny all you want, but that's really what it comes down to...ego, and pride. Without it, you wouldn't give a **** if others are judging you. You wouldn't care about petty things like how much weight the other guy does. All that matters is the weight you are doing beacuse you are there to work hard. Now let me say again that I was humbled, and still am constantly humbled, but the difference between me and some others who let that get in the way of their goals enough to where they just leave the weight room...is all the difference in the world.

You have to decide for yourself whether or not you're going to let your ego get in the way, or if you're going to power through and become something and someone better.

A lot of GOOD solid information in there to absorb!

Absolutely Fantastic post, by the man.

I know PB. I see your energy and activeness on the forum. I have read alot of your posts (which you probably didnt know), and I know your pretty active with one member assisting him.

This alone without adding anything else in the pot, makes it worth it.

hah! chillen, you stalker! lol jk
i agree. that is one good post by lei. smart kid.

as for how today is going:
GREAT!
the lower trap is feeling a lot better. i worked on balancing, focusing and coordination today. i took a nap around 3 oclock and slept till 7 :O wups.

you saw the doc today, no? how is the quad feeling and what did the doc say? still doing the noob waddle? come on, chillman fill me in! ^_^

Slight pull of the lower quad without being too complicated. Nothing serious. But, no Squats for me for a while, and this includes cardio. Not doing this is like losing my right nut. But, I will let it heal and then BECOME THE REAL DEAL when it HEALS!!!!!!!!! LOL.......

He said I can still do the upper body within reason. So, I have to do some modifications. This will be hard, but I will do it. I take......my medicine, as well as give it.

Thanks for asking............

but with a perfect diet, i dont really think you will lose any progress whatsoever. especially because its minor. mayb a week or 2 and youl be back; who knows mayb you need the rest.

im glad its nothing major though.
yea; life's little "wtf"s suck. but this is nothing but a little tale on the big scale of chillen's life mail.

but anyway, youv got me and jackie saying "rock on" now. its becoming a popular phrase for us LOL.
and when my dad gets mad i tell him to take a chillpill and to chillout in the chillbox(he was getting pissed trying to change a lightbulb LOL). he had no idea what it meant but it confused the anger out of him apparently haha

From being a dad myself: That is flat Hilarious! :eek2: :)

How about converting the Diet Pill poem or a version of heaven I wrote in with it.....That would be too funny....oops, I just remembered I was a dad!
