Hey Chillen,

I see you mentioning grapefruit a lot and I have heard they are one of the better fruits for weight loss. I never cared for them, but I have not had one in a long time. So I gave them another try today and wow, so bitter, it took a banana, apple and orange to get the flavor out of my mouth.

So, my question is, do you just eat these straight up, or do you add anything to them? I peeled mine like an orange and ate it that way. I have seen people cut them in half and then pour on the sugar, but I know that isn't an option. So, do I just pass on the grapefruit, or are there ways to make it taste a little better while still keeping it healthy?

For more information on the absolutely amazing and adorable Grape Fruit :))), go here:

WHFoods: Grapefruit

I normally eat Ruby Red GF's (I dont like the white) straight up (and after they are in the fridge a few hours and get COLD).

However, sometimes, I will sprinkle a little Splenda on top of the wedges or cut the wedges up and add in cottage cheese in a small bowl.

The red/pink Grapefruit are much sweeter than than white, IMO.

Its a long standing myth that Grape Fruit aides in fat loss.

Its based off of this premise:

The active ingredient naringin, a flavonoid that gives grapefruit its characteristic bitter flavor and blocks the uptake of fatty acids into cells to prevent our bodies from effectively using carbohydrates.

You will find some for and and against this belief.

Dependent on the size of the Grape Fruit, calories can range as low as 35 to about 100.

Grape Fruit is one of the fruits with the lowest GI Score: Approximately 25.

Extremely low (which is just fantastic!). It doesnt impact blood sugar levels that much. Which is one of a variety of reasons I adore Grape Fruit.

It is a good source of fiber (pectin), potassium, folic acid, vitamin A, and calcium. A typical Grape Fruit can have well over 75% of the Vitamin C one should consume per day.

My wife has some recipes she makes once in a while that has grape fruit in it, and I will locate this for you and post it................> :)

Best wishes

hahahaha I have already done the brown and yellow outside part. the big green bush on top gets tossed.

Drex, food is not for enjoyment- it is for nutrition... except when you are trying to enjoy it! LOL!!!

I take grapefruits and blend them with a bit of water, a banana, 4-5 strawberries, and tomatoe, and apple (green kind) and then drink that stuff alot.

if there is any left over you can use it to clean the driveway.

Chillen...What kind of info do you have on prunes? They're a "snack" that I always keep on hand. I'm curious to hear your take on their nutritional value.

A prune is a dried version of the plum. :) :hug2:

Rich in iron and potassium. They are high in fiber and contain modest amounts of vitamin A, vitamin B3, vitamin B6, and many other nutrients. Has Vitamin C, but its not near the capacity of other fruits.

They also can have a mild laxative effect on some persons, and doctors sometimes suggest adding Prune juice to the diet in elder adults for this reason--it can "encourage" bowel evacuation and clean out your system.

One Prune can have "about" 20 calories or so. And calories in one plum (about 2") can hover around 30 or so.

Prunes have a GI score of about: 29 (which is very low), and thus a low impact on blood sugar (or how fast it impacts blood sugar).

These are low calorie, have a low GI, and are nutritious.

No problem having them in your diet.

Best wishes,

heres what I think YOU think

The Calorie is THE BOSS and the nutrients within those Calories can be the DECISION MAKER

Thanks Chillen, I will give the Ruby Red a try and see if I like those. Recipes would be great. I always like to make up something new and healthy.

FF, I'm all for the food for nutrition, but I have my limits and that grapefruit I had this morning surpassed those limits.

The Ruby Red were much better! I also cut it in half and scooped it out to avoid any of the white stuff. It was pretty good actually. :)

Actually the only way I eat Pineapple is purchasing the real thing. I have gutted so many whole pineapple's I have it down to a science. After having one of these babies, there is no going back to the can (even if no DREADED white sugar is added to the canning process).

Next to the fabulous grapefruit, its my second favorite fruit.

NO, FF........this one needs to "pruned" before juicing it, lol.

Or you just may have one of those large "evergreen-like" green pineapple tops coming out of your butt......;)

Best wishes

Chillen,

How do you skin pineapples? I've been using a knife and cutting off the skin. Then, I cut it into big, round slices. Then I cut off the outer 1/2 in pieces and discard the center that is too hard. What do you do?

A view on passion:

“Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace... but we would be hollow... Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we'd be truly dead.”

Isnt this off Angel/Buffy???

I know this is out of right field but i just wanted to say, "Thank you Chillen and Trevor M for all the in depth response to the posts that everyone put up. Greatly appreciate it!!!"

Things are just great! :)

Just been extremely busy with work responsibilities. I have been in Saint Jo, Mo for about one week, and am leaving early in the am to go home. They only had one PC in the lobby of the hotel I was staying at, and limited it to 15 minutes per session, so I didnt have much internet access time per day, so my posts were spotty.

Wednesday and Thursday, my sons and I are participating a local crappie tournament. My sons and I decided this year we are going to be more active together in what we like to do, and this more than special to me.

Everyone stay tough, be happy, and personaly content!

Best wishes

Good luck on the crappies Chillen.

Hey chillen, hows it going

I haven't had any peanut butter for 8 days now!

Short term goal is to hit 21 days, hoping to by then have over-come the craving for it.
Already working too, opened a can and "smelled" it. And the same scent that i loved before, is something i don't think smells that good anymore.

OK, I have to ask...why are you giving it up?

Because it is the only food i can think of that I can't control myself over.

So its either continue letting PB control me, or not eating it.
